    Thanks for posting this; it was the bug that was stopping my 2006 Kia Sedona from starting. It began with a reluctance to start, especially in cold weather, and slamming the shifter back and forth several times would allow it to start most of the time. Eventually that stopped working. I have seen similar issues in other cars, and guessed that this was what was blocking it from starting. Showing me where to look for the switch saved me lots of time, I was very pleased to see it someplace easy, besides up under the dash or burred under the gear selector or whatever. One bit of advice though: the lever that attaches to the main shaft on my Sedona had been there forever. It took a LOT of wiggling to get it free (it holds the part in until you get it off that center shaft). Some oil might help here, it helped in getting the old lever on the new part and center shaft which is on the car itself. Otherwise I ordered the part on Amazon Prime and got it the next day. The clamp for the radiator hose gave me some scratches and bruises, you may want to cover that up with a towel.

    You just saved me 2 hours of pulling stupid plastic guards off of everything underneath my car. I'll go put away my jack now. Thank you!!

    It would’ve been really nice if you would’ve actually shown replacing the part and how hard you had to squeeze the plug

      Sorry... It was an afterthought when I completed the job. It's really that simple though. Squeezing the plug wasn't that difficult just a little extra pressure. As far as the bolts just loosen and reattach. It's all right there. I had more trouble finding the switch and I think I was more trying to show where it was located... Removal was more than just that simple! I hope it was able to help you in some way...

    Mark, I know you did this some time ago so this is a long shot. What were the symptoms or problem that required you to change the switch. I ask because My Kia Gear selector (yes it's automatic) is very stiff and I don't want to change parts unnecessarily. Hope you can reply, many thanks

      Sorry my car would not start I had to move it in and out of park to neutral When I replaced it worked like a charm But I have the issue still once in a while. But if I wait a minute or so after 1st fail attempt it starts right up

    What was your issue that you were having that made you switch this part out.

      I had to play with the shift to start the van. move in and out of park to neutral ... replaced and worked fine for a while but now doing same thing again. I did discover if I let it sit for a minute then it will start right up I do think it was a safety switch still but something else is happening with my car...But patience starts right up

    Question, you said you had to do the job with the car in neutral? Can you elaborate on that?

    • @BeachRealtorLarry
      @BeachRealtorLarry Před 5 lety +5

      Sorry just reading this now. When i filmed this it shows the arm in PARK When you are ready to change put the gear in neutral position ice pick or stick something in the hole guides on the neutral switch to keep it there so the switch arm is not moved...

      Glad it helped to you. I had all kinds of issues because everyone was telling me the wheel had to come off. So when I found out where it really was I had to film this if it would help 1 person. Seems to be helpful to a few I'm happy to have helped.

    My wife’s key is stuck in the ignition and we can disconnect the negative on the battery to get the key out. What could be the issue? I’ve seen reply’s that it’s the neutral safety switch or the ignition cylinder itself. I’ve seen that it’s something in the shifter. I just want to know how to fix it. Her Sedona is a 2007 and I don’t have a job right now so money is scarce and I can’t just go buy parts just to see if it fixes it or not. What could be the problem?

      I know this is a late response... I am sorry for not answering right away... so maybe this will help others. The location is more what I was trying to show The extraction of the part and replacement is just as easy, unless it's under a wheel well or other difficult location.
