welcome back to another video. today I have another UGA video, and this one talks about sorority rush at the University of Georgia. I rushed in the fall of 2022, so I just went through this process and wanted to provide you guys with the inside scoop surrounding rush and give you all my tips and knowledge to help the upcoming class. luv u guys and see you soon!

I went through rush twice at UGA back in the 80s and then also from the sorority end and one thing I wanted to add about getting cut immediately from certain houses: Ella's advice is good, don't let it get you down if it happens, but that's super difficult to overcome for some. If you are from out of state especially, which is likely what happened with her (as she's adorable and obviously has a lot to offer), you should realize that it's not your personality, it's a NUMBERS thing. So many girls rush and so many are already KNOWN, whether it's siblings, someone from a sorority member's small town high school or former generations' daughters, by the time the sorority goes through all the candidates and says, "yes, we know her and we really need to take her through" that leaves very few spots for girls that are completely NEW to the sorority, who may not already have an advocate there. It's really important that you realize IT's NOT YOU! It's not your hair, your clothes, whatever. It's that sororities are somewhat obligated to move to the next round those who already have recommendations and personal contacts. If you mismatch or if you get cut completely, you can and should try it again the following year. That gives you time to network and get to know a little bit more what you want. That's what I did and had a completely different experience the second time. And it was worth it.

Fun Video! Older SK alum watching, and it was so fun to say you went Sigma Kappa. I felt the same way about joining SK at my university many years ago that you seemed to feel about the SK chapter at UGA. Like you I really clicked with one girl during rush. She ended up being my roommate first quarter (at my school new pledges moved right into the chapter house). 50 years later, we are still close friends! Welcome to the Mystic Bond!

How did you go about getting letters of rec for all the sororities/ did you get them for all of them?
I reached out to family friends and also posted on Facebook to find people to give recs! Honestly, rec letters aren’t as important as they used to be, but they don’t hurt at all!!
