    05.13.2024
NATO paratroopers descended over Romania as part of exercise Swift Response 2024, the largest Allied airborne operation since the Second World War.
At an airbase near Câmpia Turzii, Romania,
German Armed Forces paratroopers from the Rapid Forces Division led troops from France, Romania, Spain and the United States in an airborne operation that involved between 1,200 and 1,500 soldiers. Fourteen transport aircraft carried them to the drop zone, making this one of NATO’s largest and most complex manoeuvres this year.
An annual US-led exercise, Swift Response helps Allies practise the complex art of multinational airborne operations, ensuring their readiness to respond in the event of a crisis. Swift Response 2024 is part of Steadfast Defender 2024, NATO’s largest collective defence drills in decades featuring around 90,000 troops from all 32 NATO member countries.
Footage includes shots of multinational paratroopers arriving in the drop zone, as well as interviews with German and Romanian officers.

One of the best multi-national training event videos ever. Well done. Everybody looks squared away. I usually disparage these types of multi-national training events as a "waste of time. money and energy"...but not this one...Outdamnstanding.

The U.K. government has declared the RAF fleet of Hercules transports to be obsolete, and are in the process of replacing them with A400M variant. The question must be why so many NATO airforces are still using them? This could help: the A400M can carry more than a Hercules: but you can buy three Hercules delivering even more lift for the same money we spent on each of our Atlases. And if you had three Hercules all of them would probably be working: if you had an A400M it would probably not,

Awesome. Kudos to all our NATO allies for this annual event 👍🤩. One small point I would make is that if it is an annual event, and planning began in September, it doesn’t demonstrate to me at least, being able to respond “in a moment’s notice”. They might do it though.
