We invested in making an access documentary about a UK man doing amazing things with inner city girls and women doing what they enjoy, amazing TV personalities got involved and we gain our BBC producers access to commissioning. After the submission, there was 3 months and the BBC said two things. 1 it wasn’t worldly enough, meaning it wasn’t dark enough, no its about UK and Irish inner city people doing positive things. 2 BBC said they don’t support or commission none TX producers despite assuring them that it was produced to the DPP production values. It was a very shabby experience and the only answer the BBC had, was to set up a new producers open day 'online' which was new post grads telling us how amazing the BBC is. Like Killing Eve, USA is often the place to get your foot in the door with a new project. BBC needs to take a look at themselves.
