Otto's scene is the epitome of hypocrisy. He scolds Aegon for sending a kingsguard to kill Rhaenyra to avenge his son when he wanted to do it from the beggining before any tragedy happened. Then he scolds Aegon for hanging the ratcatchers when he himself hanged plenty of lords who also have grieving families but these also have armies at their command. He made Aegon king against his will and now scolds him when he wields his power like a king? And this seen as the "Otto redeeming" calling out his horrible grandson when his grandson is literally one of the victims of his scheeming and ambition?
@@masterplokoon8803Otto didnt hang anyone besides Caswell who tried to escape and warn Rhaeryra. The other lords are being held in the dungeons and will be executed by Cole. Otto also wanted to have Rhaenyra and only her killed in the very beginning to prevent the war from happening.
At least Tywin knows how to rule, control, fear and showing his family who is more powerful then the king himself most of all putting Joffrey in his place. Tywin was far better hand of the king then Otto Hightower ever could.

Otto rose up high in my GoT/Hot D characters list. His rant against Aegon was some of the best dialogue in both shows imo.
And what has Ser Cristin Cole done?
The laugh was the cherry on top.
Best thing about HOTD/GOT,
You go from hating someone to liking them lol
Aegon literally only exists due to him pumping out his daughter in the first place, it doesn’t cancel that out.
I agree, that rant was top tier for me.

It's not "projection". It's covering his own ass by making sure Arryk takes the blame.
@@etcjr24 Cole and Daemon are a different race now IRL?
I heard Fabien Frankel has been getting harassed online after this episode. Apparently some clowns can't understand the difference between an actor in real life and the character they portray on screen?
Weirdos. So many of them about now. Mental health crisis only getting worse.
Same happened with Joffrey's actor, and with Dolores Umrbidge's actress in Harry Potter, and the list goes on... People are really stupid if they don't know the difference between fiction and reality... Or they do, but they are that awful of human beings.
Just like with Jeoffery back in the day, how are people so damn stupid?
It's been my observation that the ones who portray the best villains are actually the kindest IRL. I guess it's because they actually have permission, with that character, to let their dark side out to play... They probably have more fun in those roles than any others.
Laura Bailey, the voice actor who casted as Abby in The Last of Us: Part 2 also had a similar experience. She even received death threats on account of the fact that the character she played killed Joel and committed several other violent acts in the game. All I can say is that it's just absolutely crazy. People can just be absolutely crazy sometimes.
Nothing tickles me more than Otto calling Ser Arryk's orders to slay Rhaenyra a "prank" 😆

@@VMohdude-the truth is that, it was a clever plan, people only discredit it because it was done by Cole and Aegon. If Otto or rhanyra did it, they'd say it was brilliant. It's stupid of fans to discredit actions just because they dislike the character.

Otto wanted to do it right away with no provocation, Aegon did it after Rhaenyra became the number one suspect of ordering Jahaerys' death. Hanging inocents? Both did it. Otto hanged lords just for not wanting to break their oath to Rhaenyra. Aegon hanged people who were suspects of his son's murder. Otto is merely whining because doesn't have the puppet that he wanted Aegon to be.
@@masterplokoon8803 Viserys had faults? Ofcourse Yes. Was he Perfect? Ofcourse No. But was he Stupid? Nahh, just like Rhaenys Said, Viserys is no fool... But Aegon on the other hand is losing his virtue from 90% to 50%, even after how hard Otto worked to make all these things possible for over 2-3 decades in the long scheme of things for him to ruin in a Single Stroke....
So No, I'll say it Again. Otto is Upset because Aegon is a fool unlike Viserys...

Morons that he put in charge because he naively thought they would listen to him.
How is Aegon a moron compared to him? Otto wanted to assassinate Rhaenyra with no provocation, while Aegon did it to get justice for his son. Otto hanged a lot of lords for upholding on oath but Aegon hanging the ratcatchers is too far for him? He put Aegon on the throne when Aegon didn't want to be king but he gets angry when Aegon actually wields the power of a king.
It is just a scene that shows his hypocrisy.
@@alexking988 Remember this is the guy who played Spike in Notting Hill.
@@masterplokoon8803 he wanted to capitalize on the boy's assassination to turn all the other lords against Rhaenyra to at least ensure the boy's death was not in vain. Otto would have thrived in Game of Thrones, where it was all about strategizing and scheming and he did succeed under the benign rule of Viserys but this is House of the Dragon.
Was Otto secretely in love with Vizzy T 😂? Jokes apart, it's interesting how Viserys's shadow looms all over this episode: his model, and so his legacy, being broken, his memory weaponized by Rhae and Daemon both against each other, the references to him during Otto and Aegon's dialogue. He really left a hole in the realm when he died...
Visotto❤️
His completely and utter failure at being a parent, the list goes on.
Viserys didn't start wars during his reign, but at the same time he also didn't prevent them by being proactive in protecting the realm. He was a pleaser more than an actual leader, whereas his brother was on the total opposite end of that spectrum.
@@andreachilton6037 true, but the realm was relatively peaceful during these years and it was all thanks to Viserys and Otto compensating for each other's flaws.
@@andreachilton6037 Agreed. The only thing he did when Aemond lost his eye was say "Make your apologies." Aegon didn't think Viserys even liked him, and who could blame him, given how much favoritism he lauded on Rhaenyra?
And people may judge Alicent for Aegon raping that girl last season, but it takes two to parent and Viserys was the king, so who gave Aegon the confidence to do as he wished? Alicent at least held him responsible.
Emma's acting at 4:32 was so good! I got goosebumps seeing Rhaenyra glare at her.

I mean he's pretty much responsible for all this mess in the first place so I don't really pity him.

Otto became Tywin Lannister for me in this episode. I absolutely loved the honesty.
Yeah Otto and Aegon remind me of Tywin and Joffrey. But Otto isn’t as intimidating as Tywin. Aegon doesn’t fear Otto like Joffrey did Tywin. Also Joffrey really didn’t have anyone like Cole to encourage him to replace Tywin.
@@andrewward5891They could never have replaced Tywin, he had the money and the armies. He was lowkey the most powerful man in Westeros they wouldn't dare.

Otto says Daeron, 98% of the bar: I dont even know who you are.
I read somewhere that Otto replaced the ratcatchers with cats like you see running around in GOT. Sir Pounce is descended from that blood line. Was Aegon crying over his dead son or because he bought into Alicent's story about Viserys choosing him and knows Otto was telling the truth.
I like to think its a bit of both, like he himself knows damn well that its supposed to be Rhaenyra sitting on the Iron Throne not him, and do to him being made king his son died as an indirect result because of it.

Otto has always been an excellent character love him or hate him. I personally always liked his cold dispassionate logic in service of the realm, while simultaneously enabling the ascension of his own house.
Poor Aegon is simply undone by the brutality of his sons murder. I think he's a fairly normal human being reacting to the death of his child. Its unfortunate that he doesn't appear to have the temperament necessary to be a good king, at least presently speaking, but I think its easy for the viewer to find sympathy for him given how kind he is at least in that one respect. Despite being an idiot, he at least loves his children.
Prior to his son’s murder, they showed that he could’ve been a good king. He heard the woes of the poor folk in court and wanted to help. It was Otto who opposed and now Otto yells at him for not pitying the poor folk. Huh?
@@rdpaikYour logic is unsound. Not helping them for a valid reason and murdering them for no reason are entirely two different things. After watching this episode I think Otto is the best hand ever. Even better than Ned Stark. We all saw where Ned Stark’s absolute honesty took him.
I like Otto and I am still a fan of the Greens. I'm a fan of the underdog, not gonna lie. And removing the book sins of the Blacks doesn't make me dislike their bad actions that were included any less.
Aegon II may be a lot of things, but the accusations against Rhaenyra for her bastards were totally true. Her father coddled her and failed all his other children in the process. No wonder they're all such messes.
You feel bad for Otto in the end, but I loved Aegon's insolence in that scene. We've seen Otto insulted and argued against, but for the one who Otto has dedicated his whole life to make king to treat him with total disrespect is really perfect irony. Otto just never thought this far ahead, never thought about who he was empowering, his was not the long view in season 1, it led inexorably to Aegon's coronation and no further. Now he's had to reckon with the full consequence of all his life's scheming and it leaves him embarrassed of his own blood.
I do like how they continue to use some of the best lines of dialogue from the book, like “my new hand will be a steel fist.”
Great to see everybody back especially captain America!!

He realized the war would happen if Rhaenyra was crowned.
Not a fan of the Greens and have never liked Ser Otto. Too good of a politician, and that's off-putting to me. But I respect his abilities and how he spoke truth to that dumbass Aegon. Even after being fired, he's still firmly on Team Green and off to do what he can for his house.
I’m so high right now I thought that dude with the glasses at 9:39 was macaulay culkin😂😂😂

This shit is so damn good. Great reactions. My favorite game of thrones reaction channel
RIP Erryk and Arryk. You came into this world together, and you left together.
I wish and pray to one day watch an episode with you guys. Amen
That whole scene between Aegon, Criston and Otto was my favourite 👌
I'd love to go to one these nights.
But, unfortunately I live on the other side of the world, so it would be an expensive night!
Angel of death!! ☠️
