    My biggest complaint with mk5's (speaking from long term ownership, ranging from gti's, gli's and my old Leon Cupra) is the suspension as a whole is extremely expensive, not even talking about after market.
    My wifes 08 tfsi has 215k miles, and we've spent more than the cars value the past 3 years replacing worn suspension components. (Tbh, I miss the mk4 days of rear beam and simpleton control arms.)
    But lets be honest, its a 11 year old turbocharged German car, and we do live in the speed bump capital of the world.
    In case anyone is wondering, in 215k miles we've replaced: Brakes all around (duh) Ball joints, tie rods, sway bar end links, sway bar bushings, rear trailing arms, struts, strut mounts, Axle boots (too many times) dsg service, X2 t-belt (FTW) service along with accessory belt, a/c compressor, radiator fans (both, large one twice) starter and finally bank1 O2 sensor.
    Interior has had a few things need touch up or repair, but we live in UAE, and the car sits outside in 120+ degree heat. Overall, I love the car, is been quite good to us. Car is also eurodyne stg1 on OEM downpipe.

    Bought a stock 2009 GTI with 118,000 KM (~74,000 miles) back in January 2020. Paid a bit extra for the low mileage but I had been combing the listing for a solid example. It did not disappoint. Smooth and easy to daily and gets decent mileage when driving conservatively. It becomes a completely different car in sport mode with the DSG, superb response and plenty of low end torque for a nice go in between stoplights. The only thing that's been a downside so far is the intake runner flap actuator failed and began leaking boost like it was its job. Ive owned it long enough and put enough maintenance into it to know its solid. Some light modifcation and a flash tune and this car will be an amazingly cheap to run and reliable sports car.

      How is 118,000 km low mileage here in Sweden people will never buy cars over 50,000 km I don’t understand the American cars they got high mileage and they are expensive, I bought golf mk5 gti in Sweden that had 15,000 km for less than 4000dollar

    • @spencerquimby4726
      @spencerquimby4726 Před 2 lety +3

      @@lifeisshort4777 Its a 13 year old sport compact. 118k is nothing. At 25k a year average its well below where it could be. Most other examples in my area at the time were 200k plus, some pushing 300k. These engines will run for 500k plus if you treat them well. As for why it's a North American thing, what country would you be in if you drove for 8 hours? I wouldn't even be in the next province yet. Basically if it had been driven the "average" ammount per year it would be over 250k, it had less than half that, making it low mileage. A lot of people here in Canada put on 2,000 km a month or more because of the distances involved in commuting between cities. I also paid a little extra for the 2009 model year which here in North America came with some benefits. Like my engine is the tfsi not the fsi, has a timing chain instead of a belt, fixed the high pressure fuel pump cam follower issue, new revision intake manifold, and about 15 more HP than other MKVs because it has the EA888/1 instead of the EA113 engine you find in all other MKVs.

      @@spencerquimby4726 Actually the TSI motor have been known to have some pretty major issues with it's chain and people have found that the FSI if taken care of properly can actually be more reliable than the TSI. Depends who you ask but the fact some people prefer to build the FSI instead means it's not the end all be all answer to FSI issues.

    • @spencerquimby4726
      @spencerquimby4726 Před rokem +1

      @@EmilyRose900 Very true, I've heard both sides, belt vs chain. They both have issues. VW used to have chains then switched to belts then back to chains because people complained about both of them. I think what it comes down to, as you said, is following service recommendations and preventing failure through maintenance. I like the chain as it doesnt have to be replaced nearly as often, and the tensioner assembly is less prone to failure (still will though if you're not on top of it). The FSI is easier to build, but the TSI has greater potential and similar reliability. Just my 2 cents. Not knocking the FSI, it's a great engine, I just appreciate some of the features they changed for the EA888 family.

    The 2.0T up to the MK7 is still the nightmare that keeps VAG engineers up at night. Who knew an engine could consume more petroleum through the rings than through the injectors?
    You know, before 50K.
    Sadly, the 2.0T gave a lot of VAG cars a terrible wrap that they don’t deserve. The rest of the drivetrains in most 2.0T powered Audi’s/VW’s is pretty bulletproof. The chassis’ are also well-refined. But that “add one qt. of oil” reminder every week is a real buzzkill. And then the timing chains... and then the PCV’s.... and then the turbos... and on. And on. And on.

    Any advice for anyone looking to start a youtube channel that owns 2 MK5 rabbits? I Have owned one since 60k miles has 143k miles and running really strong. Very well maintained and the mechanic says it should last another 100k still on mainly all OEM parts in NE Ohio. Also just got the oil tested and Blackstone labs said the engine was in excellent shape and that was with a 10k mile oil change, and they said I could lengthen the interval if I wanted. Also bought an 06 rabbit with 45k miles about a year ago was neglected but once my mechanic got her fixed up she's at 65k and still running really strong! Was maybe thinking about fixing modifying my older rabbit. Anything is appreciated great video!

      Mine is an '07 Rabbit with only 26,000 miles. Bought it new. the 2.5L engine uses a timing chain and if the oil is changed regularly, the chain should last well over 100,000 miles.

      I traded my mk5 Jetta 2.5 that I bought new in 08. Had 140,000 on it. Never had a check engine light. Next to the vr6, the 2.5 is vw's best motor. Besides the ones that had that funky timing chain issue.

    Headlight wise to be fair im pretty sure mine are stock and all and ive replaced bulbs twice, and they STILL have a slightly different color between them.
    At one point i also replaced the igniter red and black square thing and STILL same shit. Sooo idk, im thinking its like that from factory. Just an oversight of the design and maybe something deteriorates over time maybe its the cables idk? And to be fair mine are stripping away and withered and plastic is falling off after 10 years as its an 09. sooo yeah idk. It is annoying tho
