- Valance bond theory is an important model for describing covalent bonding, but sometimes we'll want to use molecular orbital theory instead. With the help of @ProfessorDaveExplains, we'll learn about relevant aspects of this theory, which treats electrons as delocalized over an entire molecule rather than localized between pairs of atoms. We'll discuss linear combination of atomic orbitals (including constructive interference and destructive interference), as well as how in-phase and out-of-phase overlaps result in bonding orbitals and antibonding orbitals.
