  • It's cranial nerve IX, the glossopharyngeal nerve! It's a mixed nerve with lots of jobs.

Love your Anatomy and Physiology lectures. I'm a retired anaesthetic nurse with one stint lasting 6 years in ENT theatre, the rest of my years were spent working on trauma orthopaedics and many other specialities. I loved learning as it was a teaching hospital, we also had various people like paramedics, special services as well as junior anaesthetists and nurses come to develop airway skills. Having watched many of you lectures I find myself surprised that sometimes I can guess what your about to call a structure and being able to follow what your saying. Thank you, for keeping my brain active!

Best description of the Glossopharyngeal Nerve!!! I suffer from Trigeminal, Occipital, Glossopharyngeal AND Vagoglossopharyngeal Neuralgias and I felt this whole video (as I was heating my face over my radiant heat cooktop). I have had 2 styloidectomies, both to decompress my Glossopharyngeal and Vagus Nerves AND my Internal Jugular Ateries. During my second surgery (right side), the very pointy end of the sawed-off styloid process bone sliced through my Jugular. Massive complications, permanent nerve damage, lingering facial paralysis and synkenisis. Now headed for probable facial reanimation surgery and I am terrif8ed. I feel like my daily pain/med journal could graphically describe every last task and responsibility of Cranial Nerves V, VII, IX and X and those other accessory nerves.
Thank you for this amazing video...I'll check out some of your other videos...when my whole freakin' head/face/skull and neck aren't blowing up. Seriously, you are amazing!
    Kindest regards,
    Allison S.

OMG 😱🤣 Now I know why I'm a European, non physician Osteopath. Cranial nerves are hard! Thanks for the workup though. It really helps. You don't get good continuing Education here (Germany), especially for anatomy. Things like this must be visited regularly, and then some more. I will watch this vid c couple more (28) times.. lets see if it sticks this time 😎

i m convinced that from a tooth filling with silver in a lower second molar , i got tinnitus , my guess is that the silver filling is touching a nerve and silver is a conductive material , and produces disruption to the nerve and that nerve is connected and to the ear or to the process of hearing .

De. Webster. Would you say that an elevation in B/p could cause salivation since the nerve runs along the carotid sinus and gets sensation from that?
