"Russia, a country that will continue to be funny until it suddenly isn't". Holy crap.
It's never been funny bcs the people have suffered forever.. People don't want to see putins true colors before he invaded Ukraine.
Putin, to come to power, ordered bombings of civilian apartment buildings, blamed some fake terrorist & started a horrific war based on the lie.
He never cared about the Russian people. It's all props for his insane selfish goals..
I really felt that one. There have been moments in these older eps that are oh damn... Russia losing it's low level fun side is one of them
Since that's a full quote, you must place the terminal punctuation inside the quotation marks.
"Russia, a country that will continue to be funny until it suddenly isn't."
@@broastedgarlic7354AFAIA that's actually just a regional difference. The US puts the quotation mark before a full stop and the UK (and probably other countries) puts them after the full stop.
(i may be wrong but this is what i was taught in school... which means it's probably incorrect)
@@Sam-Caini has always assumed it depended on whether you were quoting a full sentence or including a quote on a sentence
And then the $10 change didn't even happen because of the popularity of the Hamilton musical.

You didn't get me with the second Rick roll. It was obviously coming because there is no one in Congress remotely capable of delivering a speech like that.
I am really enjoying these full episode uploads. Hats off to JO for putting everything on youtube!
Mississippi got a new flag in 2021. Took em a while.
The confed flag was removed in 2015, but there are still asshats all over the state flying them on their own.
While searching I came across a bunch of stories about a dude flying it on I-85.
Glad Mississippi finally changed their flag and removed the confederate flag from the state house, but it's still so appalling to see just how many (white) people are still so comfortable displaying it. I grew up in rural Pennsylvania, a state that was very much NOT the confederacy and would never be considered "the south" no matter how general you're being, but I still saw some version of the confederate flag on probably one tenth of the houses I'd pass on the way home from school.
@@jessaminemanchester Yup. I live in Ohio, and I have seen them around here, too. I remember hearing that even some folks fly it in Europe. Why? Presumably because in those parts of Europe, the Nazi flag is illegal.
@@agiar2000I’m in Tx and half the houses and trucks on my street are flying confederate flags 🙄
@@agiar2000 Can confirm having recently seen it in someone's garden on a train from Prague to Plzeň. I do occasionally see it, and it's always weird. Once upon a time (about the time these episodes first came out) I chalked it up to ignorance, but these days, I'm not so sure about that...
@@beth12svistwe’d like to say that it’s “ignorance” but I think it’s much more sinister than that. It’s intentional in your face, racism.
The kayaking buddies was so funny because my dad literally was on several kayaking forums when I was younger and went to meetups in Virginia
Okay but my dude definitely put "manslaughter" in quotes to emphasize that it was 100% full-fat murder.
I thought he did it because it was a woman he slaughtered.
Not only had I completely forgotten about about the rickrolling, after the first one I thought "I'm pretty sure he does this again later this episode." But then I forgot about that by the second one, and I got hit again. Well played, good sir, well played.
As a person who lived in Russia for over two years, that theme park is just about the MOST Russian thing I have ever seen. It could only get more Russian if it was associated with Russian Standard vodka the way that Hershey Park is associated with chocolate.
It’s sad how relevant some of this stuff is still to this day
And sadly, online harassment of women and others today is arguably even worse.
The Uvalde shooter harassed girls online with threats of raqe and murder, and when they complained about it they were told to "just ignore him" and "it's only words", and no action was taken despite a well-established connection between misogynistic threats and harassing or "creepy" (Nikolas Cruz, the Parkland shooter) behavior or expressions and school shooters.
Despite that clear pattern, they ignored him until a Border Patrol team took him down. Just like they'll ignore the next one.
It's a hard thing to police. Virtually everyone, especially children, have made thinly-veiled (or otherwise) threats over the internet. Saying "it's only words" may seem irresponsible in retrospect, but they had like a 99.99% chance of being right. It's not like news outlets are constantly reporting on stories where "someone made a threat, and then nobody did anything, and then nothing happened", but that exact scenario happens all the time.
@@zachgoldwater957 persistent threats of direct harm to individuals who are local and thus "within reach" are a little different than the generic adolescent huffing and puffing.
Ha! What do you know Lin-Manuel Miranda is still on the $10 bill.
I have yet to see this, who??
@@Gambit22003 It's 2024 and someone is still coming in like "What'd I miss?"

The sad part about the russian military park is the kids climbing over them back then are probably on the front line in the Ukraine now
I am definitely not alone in that I had to re-check the 'date' of this full episode as 2015 when it came to "the internet" portion. Sadly, it's only become worse with the online harassment for women (and the law still hasn't truly caught up and the police are still absolutely useless and traumatising). We now have to contend with AI deep fakes. The younger generation is really screwed up (and there's actual suicides happening because of it) due to "people" scamming them to send pornographic photos to the scammer/blackmailer. Plus the old line "date better men" is still be trotted out to women when the most abusive men "appear" to everyone else "as a good guy". Oh... and lastly... let's not forget "just don't send nudes" when in this day and age you don't even have to send anything with the advent of AI deep fakes.
lolol, it is cute you think ai is needed. people have been using photoshop to be absolute monsters for twenty+ years. cut+paste is good enough to harass and traumatize people, remember; it doesnt have to be believable it just has to be salacious
That typing like he was running his fingers down venetian blinds made me laugh, I'm glad it was called out in the outtakes.
So glad JO is putting all this on the platform
Lmao k
Still waiting on those redesigned currency notes 😕
That $10 isn't happening. You can thank Lin-Manuel Miranda.
After being on the Internet for almost a decade, it took me until now to understand why John Oliver talked about Online Harassment and included an interview clip with Anita Sarkesian. I am very glad a younger me was blissfully unaware of Gamergate and every other terrible thing happening on the internet at that time.
Watch his hands. His fingers are like creepy spider legs.
Tucker Carlson would be so juiced up to say Patriot Park finished in 2016. "Wow, in Russia, they sometimes release stuff ahead of schedule. This is insane."
Thanks for adding the original air date guys. Much appreciated.
Obviously, consent by the person IN the pic should be required for pics like that to be put up, like with everything else sexually.
i dont know why but i always picture john oliver as a puffin
I think the Confederate flag should be retired since it only lasted 4 years. The Annoying Orange has lasted longer. The fucking Annoying Orange

It feels so weird to be watching this now knowing we didn't even get the $10 because of a rap musical
And now I am watching with hands 😂
Exactly, hadn’t paid a lick of attention to them before. 🥸🥸
If 2022 John Oliver could visit 2016 John Oliver, 2016 JO would probably break down crying in his office.
Anybody else get a Tubman stamp for their $20 bills back in the teens? It's a sweet act of rebellion to stamp each $20.
Also, shout out to John on calling out Scientology in so many different ways in so many episodes. Xenu is my home boy!
Huh we still didn’t get any women on the dollar bills
April 2016 they announced Tubman would replace Jackson, you can guess what happened next lol
Anyway, the Trump admin said production of dollar redesigns would go ahead in 2030, but didn't clarify if it would include Tubman in the $20 bill. Later, the Biden admin confirmed Tubman would occupy a redesign, but also put the date at 2030.
Your avatar fits perfectly with the year this season was made.
Man was rick rolling, and showing anita sarkeesian in the online harrassment and revenge porn policy episode.
Watching this in 2024 has given me a maddening reminder that nothing has changed. Now, people are using Chat GPT to create AI generated fake pictures of women instead.
Thanks
I just liked this for the Rick Roll. 😂
With the current state of women’s rights in the US, this is so depressing that they never actually went through with putting women on $10 or $20 bill. Wow how things have gotten much, much worse.
and the Sacagawea coin was a smash hit, too 🥸 they should redesign money from scratch anyway, including different sized bills
You can laugh however much you want, but I want to go to that military disneyland, it looks awesome.
Problem is with shaming a human body
That Patriot Park… wonder how many of those tanks are now in Ukraine…
Got rick rolled from a video from 10 years ago…
Wow I have seen this episode so many times and I only just realised that's Colin Hanks in the skit
yessss thank you, I recognized his face but couldn't place it.
Almost sounds like a "special military opertion" of a theme park...
The best part is the blooper reel, which proves that normal people can't even keep a straight face talking about what these whackadoodles think is a fun thing to do. LMAO
4:26, i dont understand that joke :(

Looks like he's dismayed by the MS flag because of the slavery/racism theme?
Referring to the 3/5ths compromise in the Constitution where slaves were only counted as 3/5 of a person when tallying representation in Congress
@@Mwilliams8573 thanks
the 3/5ths compromise was agreed to, in order to get the northern states to join the union. since the enslaved made up a large amount of the southern population, northerners believed that if they were counted in the census, the south would get more political power when the enslaved couldn't even vote. as a compromise, they made it so 1 enslaved person was considered 3/5ths of a white person, one of the bigger hypocricies during the american revolution.
I think we should put Lindsay Lohan on the ten dollar bill.
What's funny in is that the guy typing into the computer in the sketch near the end is the religious nutjob bad guy from Dexter season 6.
Did I actually just get rick rolled
Did I actually just get rickrolled in 2024 🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
What is the 3/5th reference about? (At 4:20 )
Slavery. 3 out of every 5 slaves were counted towards the total population for legislative representation.

@@TheJeffOfficial Thank you for being so polite in your answer. As a 'not an American' there are some things that just aren't general knowledge for us. It nice to see someone not speak down upon that lack of knowledge.
@@bluebelle8823 It might not be clear in Jeff's reply but what that means is that Slave owners could cast votes based on the number of slaves they had at that ratio. If they had 100 slaves they could cast 60 extra votes.
Good advice, but even clothed foto's are dangerous; AI can undress. And Google does remove "upon request"? How does that help?
John should have put it in context that to some people the swastika means this other thing that isn't about racism, but it doesn't matter what your misguided wrong interpretation is of a symbol that's literally all that matters!

Sacagawea for sure
Given what happened this week, I'd nominate Stormy Daniels for the $10 bill. She's a hero. Michael Cohen can be on the five, and Drumpf's picture can go on sheets of toilet paper.
The answer. Can be simple.....send nothingwith your face..... thenyou know any claim its not you.....or just dont.... dont take naked photos that include your face......and give em away ...in person .....
So you can deny that naked photo is actually yourself........
Because when your ever pressured by anyone to send naked photos.....download photos of porn acto
..then photo shop any identifying things like face or tattoos out and send those to them.........
Awe! Fuck you, Jon! You got me 😒
“What’s twitter” is perfectly valid
This is insane, what's happening today politically
How are things turn out after all this years with revenge porn and harassment?
Now everyone puts revealing photos on line so no one cares.

Harriet Tubman.
God do you remember when the biggest thing was women wanting to be on a dollar bill
Guess I won't be using 10 dollar bill, it's got a women so that means it's only worth 75 cents on the dollar. Go men😂
Richard Gere nails that hairstyle in the same way the gerbil nails well you know Plus I agree Andrew Jackson should be replaced with a woman but I do think it's a hilarious burn to put him all over the 20 specifically because of the reason he hated it
Honestly? John Oliver as a puffin? I kinda see it
Bit wild to look back almost a decade and see that even John fell for those grifters. Obviously no-one can be right 100% of the time, but still kind of jarring.
10:52 Funny you can see this but you can't seem to understand some women's concerns about shared bathrooms and female sports categories.
While I do agree that revenge porn should be illegal, I also think that people are often a little too thoughtless about what they send to their significant others. It's nice when you're happily together, but it's less nice when you remember how normalized it is to get creepily vindictive the moment a couple breaks up. That said, there's worse ways that men react to separation...
Russian military theme park, celebrating Russia's military might - and no in 2024 here we are, learning the Russian military is a bigger, soggier paper tiger than Saddam Husein's WMDs.

if we give them the 10 dollar bills they'll most likely spend it all lolololo
Virgin mary is a fictional character, and no we don't need Christian crap on our bills. I would heavily suggest we put Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the $10.00, we can put which ever female president on the $20 oh wait that still sadily hasn't happened yet because sexism. Also I would love to see a trans person run for president, not caring if they are trans man, trans woman, nonbinary, or agender they would have my vote because they would very much likely put a end to the bigotry. But sadily they would only win if they stealthed it if one hadn't already.
How about have the moral code to not make pornograpgic material and give it to someone else? Sorry women there are consequences to your actions and the internet is forever. Zero sympathy!
Single mother of two says everything I need to know about her character and ability to retain a man.
Anyone on the side of Anita Sarkheesian is automatically wrong
wow that part with sarkeesian and wu didn't age well
For the "don't make or give these photos out" that Jon thinks is ridiculous advice and then asks what other crime would be the victim's fault. There are two examples I can think of. First, if you put a giant flashing neon sign outside your place of residence that said, "Come and rob me. The key is under the mat," you are asking to get robbed, and thus, it is kind of your fault. The second, remember that CEO who put his Social Security Number on the side of a bus to show how safe his product was, when he inevitably got his identity stolen, we all agreed that it was his fault. It's the reason we say, don't share your SSN, because by doing so it's your fault for getting your identity stolen.
Nope. “Come and rob me” is an invitation/challenge and could be argued as implied consent, but robbery is still a crime.
It’s absolutely different from people who are in a relationship who share intimate photos/vids with each other. The consent to see the photos/vids is only between the two people in the relationship. Breaking that consent with the intention of hurting the other person (ie getting revenge) turns something consensual into a crime. To still use your house/robbery analogy: it’s more like giving someone a key because you live together, then you break up and instead of giving your key back/throwing it away, they use it to get in and steal your furniture. It’s not using the key for the intended, agreed-upon use.
The inevitable argument of “trust better people/don’t put trust in someone who would do something like that” is nonsense because vast majority of the time people think they are trusting the right person and only find out they were wrong when it’s too late. Once the consent to use the key (photos/vid) has been taken away, it doesn’t matter how the person got ahold of it originally when what they’re doing with it is a crime. The “but personal accountability!” people don’t like to acknowledge that the person doing the crime is responsible for their own actions and instead focus on how the victim “made themselves” vulnerable. As if nothing like that could ever happen to them…..everyone thinks “it’d never happen to me, I don’t do ____” until it happens to you anyway because bad people find new ways be bad.
The SSN guy was undeniably stupid, and he did it for pride/advertising, and I don’t really have sympathy for him, but people using his SSN to commit fraud is still a crime regardless of how they got it.
@@starksandrecreation Those two examples weren't an apples to apples comparison to revenge porn. What I was merely stating is that there are examples of crimes where at least partial blame can be placed on the victim, which he said there wasn't an example of. I used that neon sign asking for a robbery, as an example solely because he says, "we don't say that the person being robbed is at fault." So I thought of a ridiculous but realistic example of where the robbery could be partially blamed on the victim.
There is a reason why most legal systems have a sort-of "it was kind of your fault" exception for crimes. If a person is the victim of a crime, that is the result of/related to/attemp to expose their previous crime or happens at the same time as their crime, that person legally is not a victim. The idea that you cannot be the victim of a crime that happens while you are committing a crime is logical and common sense. The idea that you cannot be the victim of a crime that is the result of/related to/attempt to expose your previous crime is also logical idea.
Let's take the example of the Paradise Papers. Since the company was engaging in assisting tax fraud, the company legally could not be the victim of a cybersecurity hack, that was intended to get documents to expose that the company was engaged in assisting tax fraud.
The same is true for Ashley Madison. Since the cybersecurity hack was intended to show that Ashley Madison was committing fraud on its customers, Ashley Madison legally could not be the victim of the cyber crime.
@@drewengel7073 someone not being considered a victim legally because they were covering/committing their own crime has nothing nothing to do with the issue of two consenting adults sharing intimate photos, then one deciding to get revenge and share the intimate photos. Unless you consider “sharing intimate photos with a trusted person and therefore potentially making yourself vulnerable” a crime or even just something that should be punished/morally wrong
