Trying to finish it, but my issue is instead of getting reinforced by the past. Why not set up the mother of all ambushes with the knowledge of the aliens show up at this location, at this time, at this date.

"...so, how's this war going for you?"
"We're losing terribly."
Yep, pretty much sums it up.

Major plot flaws, let me count the ways:
1) In training, they tell the recruits to shoot for the throat and the gut, but never WHY. They don't tell the recruits that the rest of the creature's body is basically armor. 99% of their shots are ineffective -- often resulting in the soldier's death.
2) Everyone is wearing body armor, but the creatures only long distance weapon is hurling spear-like spikes at people. It appears the spikes go right through the body armor. I don't think that the spikes were even mentioned during basic training.
3) Edwin Hodge has been on 3-tours in the future and knows how ineffective the rifles are. He opts for a 12 gauge shotgun, but is the ONLY person to bring a shotgun. And why no magazine drum (i.e. Streetsweeper)
4) Why doesn't the military send people with long distance, high-power rifles shooting armor piercing bullets? Instead they send people with weapons that are basically ineffective against the creature. Even a red dot on a .30-06 would have been an improvement.
5) If they just cut a hole into the sealed spaceship, where are there snowflakes floating around inside? For air to move, there needs to be another opening somewhere.
6) They just (violently) blew up a glacier. Why does the inside look like the Wampa's ice cave or the snow tunnel from Tomb Raider?
7) Did they ever try using electricity to protect the wall around the command center? (or elsewhere)
8) Why was the oil platform command center not protected by Phalanx guns?
9) Flame throwers? Electricity?
10) Redundant commend centers?
11) Muri knows their only hope is for her dad to carry the toxin back in time so it can be replicated and deployed in the early stages of the war. Yet she personally carries the one and only vial only handing it to her dad after a lengthy battle where she could have easily been killed multiple times. Oh, and by the way, if the vial was SO important (for the future of the planet), why is it not inside a protective case/container. Even a zip-loc bag and some bubble wrap would have been better than nothing. It could have easily been dropped or broken during time travel. Remember, there is a 5-10' fall at the end of the time travel -- if they even land on target.
12) Send in a team of GunTubers and the entire movie could be wrapped up in an hour. (and that including ads for SimpliSafe, Black Rifle Coffee, and that manscaping kit)
Or an underground bunker, with a single way in and masses of:
Heavy gates
Killzones
Traps and other defences
An actual exit plan, if it all goes south
A subtle footprint to delay discovery from outside
A surrounding area filled with chemical weapons. There's only so many things a biological system can withstand, no matter how sturdy.
@@WhatIsThatThingDoing when you lose everything on the initial attack and have privates to lead lol

The military tactics used were the worst. Its almost as if they were purposefully TRYING to lose. The Templin Institute made a really great video that basically... sums it up perfectly. Its kinda bizarre how little thought was put into it.
This is the military of the future, so they’re realistically portrayed as having shit tactics since they’re only concerned with being woke anymore.
They didnt train them so that wasnt a big deal. Like others have said, it is how ignorant the people were.
Drenching herds of swine with oil, lighting them on fire and sending them into the hordes of white claws would have been more effective.
@@xObscureMars That's not what DivinityOfBlaze was talking about. It was established the future military was depleted resulting in the time travel to recruit past people. So apparently the military of the future didn't learn soon enough that 5.56 SBR's won't do well against these aliens (even after initial encounter) and couldn't adapt accordingly.
Considering the military is all about "knowing your enemy", it's ironic the only proactive step was the serum research. Nothing about using higher caliber weapons to punch through white spike armor or corralling them to bottleneck locations (e.g. tunnels, hallways) where their numbers count for nothing and can be mowed down by M2 Browning guns.

"Not in the slightest."
"Does it look cool?"
"Hell yeah."
"Use it."
Millennial vs. Boomer gun argument.
The 5.56 choice kind of makes sense in the movie's world. If you're sending hordes of untrained people into combat wearing business suits and chef hats, telling them to bring their own personal firearms if they have any, why spend the money on arming them with expensive 308 or larger calibers when they have an 80% mortality rate......still stupid though lol
Well, let's see here
Focused accurate fire would probably still beat their armor, but nobody focuses on one close area. their groupings suck lol
@@sartorialdriver6528 you see, the reason they have a 80% casualty rate might be exactly because they are underarmed.
I mean, that was pretty much the entire movie...
"Is (weapon/vehicle/decision) even remotely practical in the scenarios imagined?"
"Not in the slightest"

I feel like the prop department was just like “You see the scope on the AR increases range, the stock and front grip improve mobility, the shorter barrel increases velocity, the light marks enemies, and the magazine has an 80 round capacity. Wait, what do you mean call of duty isn’t an accurate representation of guns?”
I feel the prop department was just like "We are expert firearms, their construction, use and safey. We own and have built several thousand of them. We've been doing this for decades in some of the most famous gun movies ever made. And so we are going to design some guns that look cool on-screen and on billboards, as that's what the filmmakers paid us for."
C’mon man you should know the barrel is for mobility and handling boosts while the grip and stock are for recoil control and stabilisation. Rookie mistake
They should’ve played modern warfare instead of Cold War, it seems.
@@HipsterKhan But in Cold War the only negative to taking off the stock would be that you lose hip fire accuracy. Why would they keep the stock and a big one at that

ak 50 will kill them
@@lukeswofford428 It's Tomorrow War, not a few years from now war.
That was one of my problems with the movie, that 50 was super effective and they are trying to tell me the couldnt figure out how to effectively deploy them to defeat the enemy.
You're talking about an army that decided to deploy ground troops into a battlefield and then had a bunch of air superiorty fighters carpet bomb it with air-to-air missiles at the same time. What did you expect? Of course they can't get anything done, they have no idea what any of their stuff even does, nor do they have any strategic planning in place.
Do you remember those flying drones with machineguns that killed hundreds of the aliens by outranging them? Why didn't they put some of those bullets in the guns of the poor sods on the ground? Each alien took all the bullets in the world to kill, unless the plot needed them to die, then a single bullet could be enough. I heard someone say something along the lines of "This movie is like getting told about the fever dream of a 10 year old kid, only the kid can't remember the whole dream and just fills in the rest with random stuff on the spot".
I mean come on, they clearly should’ve employed the US doctrine as relating to the M2 during WW2.
‘That Killy thing over there, does it walk, float, fly or roll?’
‘Yes.’
‘Well, stick an M2 on it, doesn’t matter where, just do it.’
‘Alright.’
‘Now do it again. Repeat this step until the aforementioned Killy thing is so weighed down with M2’s that it no longer walks, floats, flies, or rolls. Then remove 1. Then you’re good to go.’
My thought exactly, when the armies of various countries in the real world have turned to larger calibers due to the development of body armor on HUMAN, the future army fighting aliens with heavier armor uses 5.56 all the time.
You know what would have been great? Some movies and games take guns that are currently in testing or in a program for development (take the CoD games, they always put experimental guns in their games) so the movie could have done just that and armed everyone with the NGSW guns like SIG MCXs which are not only meant to defeat body armor but look cool as hell
“The 5.56 round has extraordinary stopping power and ballistics”
The stopping power and ballistics: 2:39
Out of a 20 inch barrel and with specialized ammo like 43grain or black tip armor piercing, then yes. 55grain ball ammo out of a 10inch barrel, not so much 😁 guess in that universe the military ditches the M855A1 round and travels back in time to Nam lol
@@GillyTheGhillie If there's such a thing as soft body armor rated to stop 7.62 NATO I've never seen it. Best I could find at a quick search was Safe Life Defense Flexible Rifle Armor which is allegedly rated to stop some 5.56 and 7.62x39, but not 7.62 NATO.

What I find funny is how there was a clip where shotgun dude grabbed an extra mag off of a body as if he would ever use it.
Me and my dad watched this movie and all we talked about was, where is the fully automatic shotguns with slugs/armorpen/explosivetips?
Considering most of the soldiers they send in are inexperienced, I would recommend the AA-12 with a drummag.
Zero reciol ez to use. Probability of needing to reload is low, because you either killed all the aliens or your dead before the mag runs out.
Also explosive slugs exists now, pretty sure they would be even more common in the future, and being more reliable.
Shotguns are not amazingly great against armor, no matter what kind of crazy slugs you’re running. They just don’t have the velocity. Even explosive slugs probably won’t be worth the bulk; those exploding slugs are meant to be door-busting rounds.

If only they had fully functioning AK-50s on the market…
It takes place 30 years in the future, that's not nearly enough time for him to finish the AK50
Or some shak-12s. 12.7 has to do something to these things
brandon, make an ak-50 with select-fire option and super oversized wood funiture
@@LoneSkag wait until this guy finds out .50 bmg is 12.7
The movie was great, but that rifle felt like a fully functional “fuck you, un-bullpups your rifle” bullpup.
To me the movie felt off. It was the jokes right after seeing most of their people fall to their death and stuff like that, that I didn't like. It was a good action flick though.
All you needed to do was see how jacked JK was to know once he inevitably got involved in the shooting, he’s bringing the right hardware for the job.
For the ARs in the majority of the movie, when I heard the firing sound and rate, my first thought was if they were shooting 9mm out of them. Then when they enabled infinite ammo, I thought “oh I see, then we’re just going to put out enough lead to chip them to death to compensate”.
A lot of good info. Makes sense. Bravo.
Me: _"They should build some fancy future drones so they can limit human casualties."_
Future Soldier: _"We will be sending you to the future with board shorts, underperforming weapons, unnecessary rifle accessories, no meaningful back-up, no intel on your enemy, and no training. May the odds be ever in your favor."_
^^Basically sums up their war effort^^
Probably would've been a good idea to have the alien lab in a submarine, or something more mobile, with better restraints on the alien too. Might've saved them the complications of having to deal with a swarm of "Spikers" swimming to that floating island. Also, whoever was on watch and allowed the aliens to get to the sea mines before warning anyone of imminent danger deserved to die. They took their sweet ass time evacuating the non-essential personnel too. Entertaining movie but shit writing for the sake of the plot.
Not to mention that 79% of the movie was useless fluff since the entire means to defeat the aliens was already within the grasp of current day humans, since, ya know, no one had thought to figure out how they showed up mysteriously in Russia with no ships being seen. Lets just keep sending people to die in a future war that isn’t their future to begin with since the entire timeline has been altered already.
In the earlier drafts, the toxin (the basic one for the males) were already completed and all the drafties were injected with it, so they were literally living bait, once a creature ate them it died. But they took this out of the final draft.
@@GeneralPenemonto That would've been a really cool logical twist to why they were essentially sending cannon fodder to their deaths. Instead we got a plot hole shit show for a story .
@@Ideo7Z Their selection had to do to how much the people going forward were not going to contribute to the future. That's why it was only people that had deaths in their near future. But they should have been sending them with larger caliber rifles and armor piercing ammo.
I couldn't understand why Chris Pratt's character didn't kill thr restrained female once they had the perfected toxin? She served no purpose. Only her continued cries summoned more males to the platform to attack.
90s to early 00 firearms Look more futuristic that modern ones
You can blame the Fudds for that
One of the weirdest futuristic guns I've seen was a mix between FAMAS and a regular AR

Your assessment of the 5.56 in a short platform is spot on. It's awesome for small game, but only softish small game.
It's like they made the cartridge from a round to shoot groundhogs 🙄
So... how do we get Chris Pratt to go shooting with Brandon?
Spam Twitter
Twitter or reddit might get it. If someone was willing to drop a few hundred cash, you can hire actors to make appearances for parties and stuff, I'm sure Pratt would accept a range visit.

The only part I didn't like in the movie, was the thought of being one of those people who went through time and didn't have a pool underneath them to land in.
That shit was messed up
When they got jumped back, why didn’t they put them in a bouncy house or something? Concrete slab is like the worst surface to have if you know it’s gonna drop you 5-10 ft off the ground!
I didn’t like that either but the system was having problems at the exact moment so I assumed that’s why they spawned way up in the air. Considering that one dude was on his 2-3rd “tour” surely all of the teleports weren’t like that.

Their plot makes more sense then the future soldier loadout.
Wait, are these the "high-capacity" magazines the left are talking about?? Cause I could use a few.

YES, Hollywood always shows brain dead people. The endless shooting. It looks good to Director. So they edit in the Films. I Love watching real vets. Talk about these moves. Can you imagine how HOT these Firearms would be. In Law of mine was on a ASPB in Vietnam. He had Asbestos gloves by his 50 cal. To change out the barrel. They would get so hot, they would turn red. He was the only one to come back from his unit. He still has trouble with Hot weather. He has to use crutches, his legs have had so mean surgery. He says the only thing left know is to cut them off. He fired a lot of fully Automatic rounds through fully Automatic heavy Firepower.
@@rp1645 the only film I can think of that actually did a round count was Last Man Standing, the Bruce Willis Yojimbo remake. Starts with the man loading dozens of magazines for a pair of 1911s before he goes through one gang house like shit through a goose. You can count 16 shots before the first reload, and 14 more after each reload.
"There must have been 4 or 5 guys here with Tommy guns!"

Hey Brandon, you’ve got a lot of promises out there, but the range day with these would still be cool👍
Looking forward to that Lapua vid! And dont sell yourself short! Put your feelers out and try to snag Pratt! He is an avid hunter and super nice/cool guy from what I've heard. I can definitely see him on the channel. No bull.
The big problem with the film isn't time travel -- it's when they get back from the future with the means to finish the war before it even starts and everyone is like, "meh, can't be bothered".
What do you mean? Lol they went and handled it. What else could they do? They at first were a bit discouraged but that's bc they thought they had to wait the full 30 years for it to start.
The poison... ugh. What a mcguffin. Basically makes the entire first 3/4ths of the movie pointless.
@@AstusAleator it’s better than finding the all spark.
The big problem with the film is almost every aspect, from the concept of sending millions of people to fight an already lost war in the future (not their future mind you), to the fact that somehow no one could figure out that they were already in Russia? Since we know what area they came out of and when they were detected!? It was one of the most absurd movies I have seen in recent years.
