Thanks Brian - I always feel overwhelmed for the options on fly gear, cant afford very expensive stuff but same time like to spend on good quality reasonable priced gear and videos like this help a lot!

I have an Echo ION reel on my 6 wt. and it’s my favorite reel regardless of price. I particularly like the positive click drag as well as the handle and drag knob ergonomics. The spool to frame dimensions are extremely precise and concentric. A very well designed and manufactured reel. Thanks for presenting the other Echo reel options.

Echo make some sweet products. Well priced, good quality that do everything I need as a relatively new fly fisher. I have a Base rod and Ion XL paired with Orvis and Reddington reels but would definitely recommend an Echo reel to anyone.

I purchase an echo ion 7/9 for my 8weight St Croix mojo bass fly rod, and well I am super happy with it! It was my first fly rod and was very unsure of what to buy. I got recommended that setup to basically cover all the warm water rivers in my area and it has done beautifully! The drag has enough that I can handle big 10+ pound carp with ease!

I got an Echo Base 4/5 over 3 years ago - only ever used in saltwater - and it has handled several eagle rays as well as snapper/bream and NZ kahawai. I wanted it because it is nt metal and doesn't have corrosion/rust problems. Very pleased with its performance!

I’ve purchased several Echo Base reels for rods I’ve built for my grandsons. Love em! We fish mainly trout and I’ve often said for the kind of fishing we do a reel does nothing more than store line. BUT if you need it the drag ain’t bad. If you reverse the retrieve, back the drag off all the way before you start. If it’s tight you will have a bear of a time getting the circlip back on. Loosen the drag and it will go together like butter 🧈🙂 Also, they stand behind their products. The first one I bought sat in the box for over a year waiting for me to finish a fly rod. I finally opened it after the warranty had expired. It had an issue so I contacted the company and explained the situation. They sent me a brand new reel, free of charge, free of shipping charges and told me to keep the defective one. Can’t get any better than that!

My first Echo product I bought was the lyft kit. I was impressed with the rod, but blown away by the base reel. I fought and landed a tough 24" river rainbow on an 8' 4wt. The drag on the base worked so well, every rod and reel I've bought since has been from Echo. Quality for the price is far better than any other brand I've found.

I am looking at the 2/3 Base reel for some tight blue line stuff. I don’t anticipate a lot of false casting and would do more bow and arrow casts or dabbing into pools. Is there a need not noted by me to justify a more premium reel?
Listening to your review it sounds like dropping the composite on the ground or water is probably the only concern but I am fishing for 6” brookies and cutties.
I have a 4WT rig for more open (yet small) waters.

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but what makes a "streamer rod" a streamer rod? How is it different from a rod of the same length a weight that is not considered a streamer rod. Thanks and great work on the videos as always.
