Obviously the poor people are in Heaven with everything they need and the rich people are in Hell working hard and hardly having anything they need, serves them right.
Believe me, there are plenty of people in the UK who STILL have the attitude of the rich in this example. Most MPs to start with. "Oh deary me you vulgar oiks, can't have more money and we are going to cut the little you do have. We shall, naturally, be giving ourselves a 10 per cent increase plus our expenses".
Better than to exposed to the harmful chemicals in the factory, I guess. Besides, I heard that prisoners were more well-fed than the people in the workhouse at that time.
some were well-meaning philanthropists. there's even another sketch o horrible histories relating to wealthy industrialists setting up model neighborhoods for their workers, with the radical thought that if the workers live in stable and clean environments, they make for better workers. this practice was, of course, the exception rather than the rule. it was the natal stages of industrialization and unions were not even a concept yet.
Reminds me of the Georgians. Also, some Victorians attempted to help the slum by tearing it down and making nicer buildings, but it was too expensive to live in so most of the slum inhabitants wound up on the streets!!!
Middle Class person (an Nouveau Riche) would always be the nasty ones. Only the Upper Classmen are bound by their duty and honor to be civil and polite.
I love how rattus makes something bad and very serios from history funny, this is making it more child friendly. I loved this as a child (and still do at 15)
There is a sketch in Series 1 about the children that joined the Hitler Youth and they were most of the soldiers in Berlin when the Allies stormed into the capital. As they were forced to fight or be killed for cowardice. This is one of the very few sketches that Rattus doesn't laugh or joke about
Love this programme - check out the songs.... A Bowie Charles Darwin, Morrisey Charles Dickens, a rapping Rosa Parks, crooner Wil Shakespeare. It's very, very clever and only the BBC can do this.....

Well at least the Smikes will get sent to Australia for that, if they can survive the voyage and the two or three years hard labor they will never have to worry about freezing to death again. Heatstroke might be another matter.
Oh my, yes! It wasn't just because of creases, though! Papers were literally hot off the presses and super fresh when they arrived. Apart from making the pages straighter, ironing them dried out the still wet ink so it wouldn't make a big mess. This was only done in the mornings though, I believe. Late editions you'd pick up on the street certainly wouldn't be ironed for your convenience!
Michael: You couldn't be further from the truth. It sickens me that you would pollute the web with the lies that the left has filled you. We want everyone to have the same chances, you simply need to work hard, like the rest of us have to further our shared American Dream.
Yes but, Victoria was truly loved by her subjects, ( to be fair probably not too hard considering that the Monarchs that were before her were extremely hated) and Victoria and Albert both knew the threat was there and took great precaution not to cause a revolution.

Better than to exposed to the harmful chemicals in the factory, I guess. Besides, I heard that prisoners were more well-fed than the people in the workhouse at that time.
I was hoping that the richer Victorians would be nicer and be merciful to the poorer Victorans. I guess I was naive.

I... don't think they were trying to help them when they were tearing down their homes, they just wanted to gain money...
The kitkat owner made homes for his workers.

How come the Victorians come after the French Royalty and they're even worse compared to the French King?
French royalty would be French and Victorians were English plus most people were just normal rather than filthy rich and stuck up posh people
Yes but, Victoria was truly loved by her subjects, ( to be fair probably not too hard considering that the Monarchs that were before her were extremely hated) and Victoria and Albert both knew the threat was there and took great precaution not to cause a revolution.

hmm it is quite amusing if you think about that...maybe at that time they thought they have the best life

Oh look, what ancaps want!
A crease in the newspaper and ironing it? SERIOUSLY?
Not really, it was primarily to dry the ink as the paper would be fresh off the press. The ironing thing does de-crease it though.
