    I could be wrong, but I think it's missing a step.
    Step 5. grow an extra foot taller than average so you can comfortably ride a bicycle with a frame geometry high enough for the chainring/crankset to clear the stairs.
    Most people would only be able to manage this on shallow and spaced out stairs. On some of the other stairs in this video it's likely as soon as they get over the second or third one, something would catch and likely go badly from there. In motorsports, this is known as high-centering.

    • @extremeencounter7458
      @extremeencounter7458 Před 6 měsíci

      I would actually think that having a step that's too high but also too long would allow parts of the frame to skip. The closer the steps, the steeper the angle, the more leverage the front gets. Would be practically impossible to hit anything underneath if you were going say near vertical. The height of each stair would actually determine the gap the tires could fit in, which would likely be the most direct effect on whether there's clearance or not.

  • @vaporainwaves
    @vaporainwaves Před 9 lety +15

    1st tip, get a 29er,
    2nd tip make sure it has full suspension, and you have clipless shoes,
    3rd lift up your front wheel and ass,
    4th make sure stairs aren't too big,
    5th step - don't freaking stop pedaling, otherwise you fall.

    • @mtbtips
      @mtbtips  Před 8 lety +12

      +babusiaN1 1. One of the bikes is a 26er.
      2. One of the bikes is a hardtail
      3. The 'Saddle Stop' technique is crucial if you want to excel at stairs
      4. As the video says, start on one or two stairs and only progress once you've mastered them
      5. Learn to pause pedal. If you continually pedal, you're bound to pedal strike
      6. Have fun, Groovers!

    It went together easily in less than an hour. czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

    Do u wear clip less biking shoes? Because I couldn't tell and i don't know if it is easier

    • @mtbtips
      @mtbtips  Před 10 lety

      Yes. I reckon clip-in type pedals are easier once you have the skills and confidence, because they allow you to apply a more complete/smoother/more powerful pedal stroke. Start on flat pedals though, if you're unsure of clipping out fast enough, so you can ground that foot fast if things go wrong. Stairs hurt!~ Chris

  • @4ndr3cm
    @4ndr3cm Před 9 lety

    Interesting. But how do I keep my pedals from hitting the floor? With one step it is pretty easy to keep the pedal away from the concrete, but if Im constantly pedaling in order to go over a bunch of steps, how can I be certain I wont crash from pedal touching the floor?

    • @mtbtips
      @mtbtips  Před 9 lety

    Those stairs look nasty if you tip over and stuck in your pedals.

      +梅キョア They certainly will be nasty if that happens, yes! No doubt about it. Make sure that you only progress to harder challenges as your skill allows, so that you keep the practice environment as safe as possible. If need be, start off practicing on just one step that is all by itself. (and flat pedals if need be) Once you get comfortable with that one step - and this may take a couple of weeks - find a place where there are just two steps, and practice on them. That steep flight of stairs in the video is quite a challenge and definitely not something you should expect to be able to ride straight away, unless you've ridden something similar many times before. Does that help? ~ Chris
