Love how 2020 reboot just ended the Holydramon vs Ophanimon dispute, we get both, under different conditions, chill people.
Haven't watched the reboot yet, but I'm curious. What are the required conditions for each form?
In terms of power, I feel like Holydramon is stronger, while Ophaimon is more fitting for Angewomon to digivole to
@Toshinegawa both evolutions happened under different situations, with different opponents. Also, we got patamon's new evolution Goddramon which is a beast type alongside the holy beast holydramon. In addition, with different opponents, we got seraphimon and ophanimon. There weren't rules or anything described, but this is how it happened.

OK, I got some ideas for backgrounds for all the Warp Evolutions that didn't made it into the anime:
-Phoenixmon: a gigantic forest fire
-Rosemon: a beautiful field of flowers
-Vikemon: a blizzard in the arctic
-HerculesKabutermon: on top of a metal building during a thunder storm
-Serphimon: over the clouds with the sun rising in the east
-Ophanimon: same thing with Serphimon but the sun setting in the west

Their mega forms never was shown in any seasons until recently in Adventure Tri, however, there were already cards of them even before the fight with Apocalymon (probably even before the series even aired in any other part of the world except for Japan) and I actually owned/own the card at least with Tentomons mega form. But I remember that I went on Google and found pictures of the cards with all their mega forms some time after the Apocalymon fight. And from the moment when season 2 started and I saw Tai in the series, I eagerly waited for the other mega forms to be shown too...But we all know they were first shown now pretty recently in Adventure Tri.
Can't believe they waited for probably more than 16 years until they finally showed the forms of the other main Digimons :S

Izzy was closest to the robotic areas which Madhindramon conquered since he’s the tech guy of the group
And Gomamon is the water/ice themed mon of the group mostly suited to fight metalseadramon.
The only one that didn’t make sense to me was Sora/Piyomon vs Piedmon, I feel like Takeru would’ve been more appropriate for that one, but Puppetmon was more personal and by process of elimination they had to give him to Sora. Maybe they should’ve given a mega to Datamon to make it personal for her as wel

Takeru wasnt kidnaped, he infliltrated and "played" with puppetmon (actualy pinociomon) and thus shifted attention to himself and not the others.
Weeeeeeeel if at all Gatomon(Tailmon) was enraged and would have had a chicken to pull with Myotismon(Deemon(in this here case Vandeemon) because of wizarmon

Gomamon realy as well as joe had nothing realy to do with metalsedramon, same as izzy with mugendramon, not realy fitting but i guess water v water it is.
Sora v piedmon made perfect sense. Remember that taichi basicaly DIED alongside Wargreymon with her being UNABLE to do anything? Yea she even said Taichi when facing piedmon so you can asume she IS in rage. At this point she loved him over anything else and that showed. So her taking on Piedmon is , beside Hikari and Deemon, the only real fitting one here.
My guess is that sora, garudamon, angewomon and gomamon were the last three digimon defeated by piedmon, leaving only patamon to defend tk and kari. Sora was the last one to try and protect the children when everything seemed hopeless.
Thanks for posting this! Turned out the other original Partners had Ultimate forms just as interesting as WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon. This brought back some very fond memories as well. I'm a little surprised though that Salamon, Tailmon's child form, wasn't included. Then again, she was far older than the others.
Why, why didn't we actually get this in the anime. That would have been awesome!

I think it had something to do with Leadership and Second-in-command. All of the Leaders of their group happens to be the strongest. In Tai's case, He has the most raw power on the team. Davis can change the tide of battle to his favor if the conditions are met. Takato has the Hazard so he could just destroy the Digital World if he wanted. I'm still trying to work out the last three. But I hope I made my point.

The only thing I needed a guild was for making the right bond choices since I can’t understand Japanese and even the gameplay is straight forward, the digi-pieces you use as equip you eventually figure what each piece does
Digimon Tri needs more Digivolve animations in my opinion! :( I was so dissapointed when Wargreymon and Metalgaruramon appeared but neither had the Digivolve animation :(

I thought that was one of the most epic things, the whole evolving into something really powerfull. It also builds up the intensity of the moment in my opinion, it used to get me so hyped back in the day with adventures 1 and 2 :D maybe I'm the one who's old fashioned hahaha

I just sort of liked the way that each time the dust cleared, they were another level. Different strokes, I guess. But I do like watching Digivolution sequences, or else I wouldn't have clicked on this.

+Dylan de Jonge Yeah it was just "different" IMO...i was also complaining about this but they have only 8 episodes to finish this so i believe they needed to do this way. AlsoI liked how they did it be fun making the digimons trying on it evolution make damage to the enemy, until finaly got to fusion.

Of all the 8 chosen digimons, Hooumon is the only mega type digimon that still looks like a beast and a perfect type. It's like birdramon with armor which is similar to Metalgreymon. haha

I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that the anime didn’t do this in the first place or that out of all the Bamco Digimon games that were localized, this was the one they skipped.

It wasn't just cool seeing them skip forms but saved time reusing the same sequences one after the other and gave more of time for the story.
Especially since after a while, seeing every single form for all 8 in order got boring due to how much time they took. Thats 24 sequences in 1 episode of Adventure Tri.
Oi, Agumon pulled one against Milleniumon ya know? It basicaly did a shinka to what we just call "RRAAAAH!" Its a subspecies of the more widely known Wargreymon but much stronger (as there is literarely no way reg wargreymon would have survived any attack from that world destroying behemoth)

I thought biomerging was stupid. People give Frontier slack for the concept of people becoming digimon, when literally its previous season did the same thing. Though I will admit. Tamers was pretty damn good. I liked it until Gallantmon came around.

I like Biomerging because it's better than the humans standing around and being easy targets. Plus they usually looks really cool when they Biomerge. Tamers really picked up after, I don't know why you dislike it. Gallantman Crimson Mode was amazing. Now imagine T.K. merging with MagnaAngemon, or Kari with Angewoman, that would be awesome. What's not to like? lol

Since a new Digimon Adventure anime featuring the original digidestined has been announced, I really hope that it is going to finally feature all of these Mega levels that were never used in the original series. On top of that, maybe some new DNA digivolutions or a new form of digivolution in general as well?

This should clear up some questions. Ophanimon is an alternate mega form for Gatomon/Tailmon. It's similar to how Goldramon is an alternate mega for Patamon (who normally evolves to Seraphimon) in the card game. Goldramon is similar to Magnadramon/Holydramon in that it is a dragon mega form for an angel type digimon. Also in the card game, Etemon can evolve to either Metaletemon or Kingetemon while Myotismon can evolve to either Venommyotismon or Malomyotismon. I can't believe I still remember all this from back in the day.
There was a confusion with the anime and the tamagochis supposed that magnadramon was a mega of gatomon along with angewomon but as in the second movie they put it as ultimate of gatomon they made the change and it became their canonically final evo magnadramon is the evo of the series original ophanimon was created later to accompany seraphimon and cherubimon as the trio of angels in digimon frontier with seraphimon it is simpler is that at that time they were thinking of making godramon his final evo like plesiomon with gomamon but that was discarded and decided to continue with the initial concepts of the osea angel-angel

I'm afraid it going to be Ophanimon, in the new 15th anniversary digivice the warp of Gatomon shows Magnadramon instead :(, I hate that Falcor like digimon, Ophanimon is more gorgeous, although it need Lilimon and Angewomon to for Magnadramon, the rightful warp for Gatomon is Ophanimon

I read that Gatomon's mega is Ophanimon when she has her tail ring. Without it, she becomes Magnadramon
Patamon and Gatomon actually did Warp Digivolve in the Anime. It only happened once in the Digimon movie but it did happen. Though Gatomon did not turn into that on the Anime. Her Mega Digivolution actually kind of looked like the Dragon from the Never Ending Story rather than a female version of Serafimon. I guess this counts since Ofanimon was not in the Anime but why is Serafimon in this video when he actually did appear on the Anime?

I miss the old warp shinka evolution scenes, they were so much more creative and unique. now in digimon tri, its almost like they just copied and paste the digivolutions
Undoubtedly, the (super and warp) evolution scenes in the anime series were quite expensive to produce. For a game that is relatively niche, on hardware as limited as the PSP (achieving different effects requires time and experimentation as well as creation of assets that are used nowhete else), it is unlikely the investment would've been worthwhile.
Modern technology (geometry and compute shaders) should make it possible to create many interesting different evolution scenes across a variety of Digimon without necessitating hand animation for everything, though the initial investment to develop auch a system would be high.

Every Mega level Digimon had to Digivolve from something. For example, in Frontier there was a Seraphimon who was reconfigured into a Digi-egg that hatched into a Poyomon, then immediately Warp Digivolved into Patamon, or the egg hatched into a Patamon, (with enough data a Digi-egg may hatch into a Rookie) since most series take place in parallel universes, it's possible that only one Digimon in each universe can become a Seraphimon, in Adventures case, T.K.'s, that way it's still a unique Digimon while at the same time being a Digivolution.

Well, that was never said to be unique as, lore-wise, it's just a Virus-attribute WarGreymon. So theoretically, any Agumon could become one. If you're talking specifically about the 02 one, he was artificially created so he doesn't follow normal Digivolution rules.

Glad to see the PSP game "fixed" the most controversial point in the original anime. Although having them evolve during a boss rush is kinda forced, in my opinion it stays truer to the spirit of Adventure.
The best thing about the show is that each of the kids have different personalities, so they all deserved a mega form. Having them only for Taichi and Yamato just because they each have a younger sibling was a terrible idea, and I wonder what motivated it...
Tentomon's evolutions: First a bug, then an insect, then a beatle and now a Hercules beatle! haha Japanese insects reference there.

Well technically Magnadramon was the 'original" Mega, only because Ophanimon wasn't made until the third iteration of the card game. But I believe Ophanimon is the more appropriate Mega. Original isn't always best and this is one of those times.

This is a good example of a historian's fallacy :P You can't say that technically, they only chose Magnadramon because they would've chosen Ofanimon, but couldn't for the fact that she didn't exist yet.
Also, they could've invented the Digimon on the spot. Plottmon, Omegamon and Seraphimon are examples of Digimon that they invented on the spot for the anime properties. (And starting with 02, it became common practice to invent characters for each anime series at least for the protagonists.) They didn't invent a new Digimon where they could've. It's also a little interesting to note that Holy Dramon, as well as Saber Leomon concurrently and Hououmon later, was one of those Digimon that were originally Perfect-level. Instead of creating a new Digimon, they chose to make her a Final Level Digimon and the evolution of AngeWomon at that. To me, this spells out, without a doubt that the animators believed that Holy Dramon was the best choice and not because she was the only resort.

I have actually met and argued with people who thought that during Digimon Hurricane Touchdown, the writers went, "Quick! We need something for AngeWomon to evolve into!" "Something that matches Seraphimon?" "What about Ophanimon?" "That's a great idea! Unfortunately, though, she doesn't exist yet." "Well, there is MangaDramon." "It's a stretch, but let's do it!" I couldn't get them to see how this way of thinking is thinking that what we know in present they somehow knew in the past.
No, nothing can be further from the truth. Holy Dramon was among the first planned, and exactly the first confirmed of the Adventure Finals. The act couldn't have been more deliberate. They went, "Well, Holy Dramon is perfect to evolve from AngeWomon." "There is the problem that they're the same level." "Change it to Final. It will work out." They could've easily designed a new Digimon, and they didn't. By the time that Rumble Arena came out, they had had 7 opportunities to change Holy Dramon, and it wasn't until after Rumble Arena that they did. This is the exact opposite of the scenario painted by a lot of fans.
I think that in this case, less is more. Mentioning Ofanimon in a discussion about why a certain evolution choice was made in 1999 is bound to confuse people.
However, while we're on the topic of what "fits better", I personally believe that if Ofanimon replaces Holy Dramon, then it becomes *Tailmon* who is not only the odd man out, but sticks out like a sore thumb. Tailmon -> AngeWomon -> Holy Dramon works themetically. Not so much to Ofanimon. Why not also replace Tailmon with something that fits better? A good friend of mine recommends d'Arcmon. I think a better argument can be made. D'Arcmon:
- is only 11 months younger than Ofanimon (compare to the difference of 36 months between Ofanimon vs Tailmon/AngeWomon/Holy Dramon.)
- can evolve from Plottmon [Bo-116t],
- can evolve into AngeWomon [DM02-070] and Lady Devimon [Digimon Championship],
- is a Virus Buster [Bo-116t],
- compliments with Angemon as AngeWomon and Holy Angemon compliment each other, (Tailmon doesn't)
- completes Angel -> Arch Angel -> Great Angel just like Angemon -> Holy Angemon -> Seraphimon, (Tailmon doesn't)
- heck, it can even Jogress with Aquilamon, albeit, the result is Kérberomon X-Antibody.
Just move the Armour Evolutions down to Plottmon like it should've been in the first place, and you've got yourself a perfect replacement and improvement for Tailmon. Is the 02/Brave Tamer history even direct canon to Digimon Adventure for the PSP? Nobody knows. Ofanimon originally required a Virus Busters individual to evolve from, whereas, clearly none of the Chosen's Digimon from Digimon Adventure are Virus Busters, even Omegamon isn't, so this requirement was relaxed. What I'm saying is that they could just as easily iron out any other wrinkles that I can't because they're the creators.
And yet, I wonder why other people never mention d'Arcmon, huh :-) (Not you personally, but I honestly don't think many people think this out thoroughly.)
I think Tailmon gets a pass for not being a Angel Digimon by virtue of Adult being her natural state. Since all the others are Child Level and therefore small animals (and one plant) because she is also a small animal, Tailmon fits with the others' "default forms" despite being an Adult level. They'd need some explanation as to why she permanently degenerated into Plotmon despite having naturally evolved to an Adult Level and the explanation they give us would probably be even more contrived than the whole Holy Ring debacle.

The long pink flying dragon was magnadramon. Magnadramon was gatomon's mega when she lost hee holy ring thus not being able to fully digivolve to her angel mega which is ophanimon. Ophanimon is her true mega when she have the roly ring.
