Back when I hit seventy, I wanted a easier way to grow veggies. This is what I did almost the same way you did it. I really like not having to bend over or get down on my knees to work the garden. It's amazing how much food one can raise in 20 of those tubs, and with little effort. Thanks Danny for broadcasting this method.

I used this onion method year before last. Harvested my own seed from a onion I grew the year before. Sprinkled them into a large grow bag. I ended up with an entire pot of green onions which I pulled and planted into my raised beds. I grew the biggest white onions I ever have. Works fantastic just takes some planning.

If you are 'Thinning' just make sure you have a secondary location in mind and instead 'Transplant' all those plants removed rather than discard them. Many of them won't take but the ones that do increase your production.

I am growing the Kuroda carrots currently at your reccomendation, using your manuel. We are in the process of adding 2- 110 sq foot of raised garden beds around the house it would otherwise be wasted space...correction has been wasted space for the last 5 years. Im slowly adding food anywhere and everywhere I can. Little by little we add more and more of our food that we grow we currently only have around 2000 sq foot of growing space in various places but you can bet that I am faithful with that space and I layer stuff in so that I take advantage of every last space I have. The Lord is so good and He is teaching me how to be trusted each step if the way and as He finds me trusting of what I have He has given me more. I use to long for a farm, still do but I now know through Him it will be done and until then He is preparing me. Thank you both for being part of that process not only in gardening help but also in growing in the Lord. Love you both bunches! Have a blessed week!

I worked in a lumber yard for a while when I was younger and I used to use those shed packs( the tarp you put on the carrot tub) for covering my chicken pens. If anyone wants some I bet any lumber yard or home store with a lumber department would be happy to give them to you because they just throw them away.

I have been trying out different elevated container gardening shapes and found the square cube shape works best for peppers and other plants because it gives me the corners that add to the space for toot systems. I get more plants per container that way. So, I use treated wood boxes I made and line them with greenhouse plastic on the inside with poked holes on the sides of the plastic a few inches up from the bottom like you do. I do the same thing using organic material mixed with top soil finishing the last 6 inches with sterile potting soil, then activate it with weed tea water that has lots of stuff growing in it without the weed seeds. Then I plant the seeds or starts until the plants grow enough and mulch with pine needles. That works good for me. Nut sedge, bermuda grass, bahia grass, pig weeds, memosa tree starts, they are in the ground here so I found elevated raised container gardening is the only way to grow food. I will try drowning out the weeds with aggressive cover crops this spring for ground gardening. Otherwise, trees can grow food. For trees, weeds are controlled with annual use of cardboard and pine needle mulch. I will be buying three dunstan chest nut trees soon to try in central Georgia. These nuts are very nutritious and they are close to the original American chestnut trees that were so useful for animals and people before they died off from Dutch elm disease.

have you tried woodchips on top of cardboard as a weed suppressor? it works way better than pine needles, but the issue is that you have to buy the woodchips, but they are pretty cheap, $25 per yard where i live, and some government run facilities give them away for free. there are also websites like "chipdrop" where you can sign up to get a whole dump truck load (20 yards) for free from arborists in your area that are doing work and dont want to go pay a dump fee to dispose of what they consider waste. my topsoil is over 5ft deep of compost from decades of having tons and tons of wood chips decay, its crazy!

@@russbowman6801 You are doing your best and the plastic barrier makes it just like growing in a pot. Better than the gmo garbage they try to keep pushing in the store loaded in pesticides. Sometimes you can find cedar pockets for fences and create beds out of those if available. But you sound very intelligent just with what you taught me about the chestnut trees I thank you that was interesting.

Danny when we cleaned out the manure in the barn husband would put a layer of lime down before the cattle came back in. This was so when cleaning out the next year when digging it out again it was easy to tell that the lime layer was the bottom. Mixing the lime in with the manure didn't hurt anything. It also kept the smell down some during the winter. We had a silo that we fed silage to the cattle during the winter.

Great info Danny! Thanks I’ve been doing pot planting from the beginning of my gardening because I have bad soil and I noticed the amount of vermiculite you use is huge. The Home centers used to sell the bigger bags but since Covid around me they don’t and the smaller bags are very expensive so I went on Amazon and you can get huge bags of it and it is much cheaper. Some of the bags are 100 quarts of vermiculite.

I loved this video! Are you building a salad bar for the deer or is there actually a fence around the area where you have your containers?
And I noticed a nice big nest in a low tree behind the pots. Is that a squirrel nest?

Danny, I like to take a Dramm mist heat on the end of my hose wand to water in the top dressing layer of potting mix over small seeds like carrots. The mist is enough to dampen the soil like you said, but it's so light it will not move any of the soil around at all. I like the Dramm head as it's a finer mist that I can get from one of those multi-setting hose ends like you have (I've tried them). Another great video!!!

Thank you for telling us it's ok to add worms to our container pots. I've heard different theories, but since your advice have proven to be spot on with all the things I've tried, I'm going to add worms to my pots now.

Danny! You're giving away all our secrets for successful gardening! Aaaarrrggh! LOL I do the same thing, have those landscape "Nursery" pots. Those look like 15 gallons size. I sold most of mine for $5 apiece (yes, I know, that was too cheap!) but I have alot of the 25 and 45 gallon size still left. But they are too heavy when full, so that has to be taken into consideration. BTW, I used feed sacks to line mine. It will last longer than the greenhouse plastic. If you contact local landscaping companies in our area around early May, they may give you their cut-off plastic! I have some.

Been looking forward to this video ya'll! When you get the red wrigglers, do you just drop a few or more inside the tubs and let them do their thing? I think this is a great idea! Also, if I get the worms while preparing my pots, at what point can I put the worms in? I kinda think it doesn't matter cause those worms are gonna work that soil regardless.
