Making calcium carbonate

Great demonstration of a double displacement/ precipitation reaction - I have made calcium chloride + sodium hydroxide double displacement reaction also - - The loss could be down to either the di-hydrate or deca-hydrate being present - especially with washing soda. Also I find kitchen towels or even some finely woven cloths can enable manual squeezing without too much loss..

It wouldn’t be too spectacular. Some fizzing followed by boiling down the solution to yield Ca(NO3)2 cristals…. Conc. HNO3 is illegal here but we might make a video on “extracting“ calcium nitrate from a salpeter infested wall.

I’d do it but I sadly don’t have any soluble chromium(III) compound on hand right not. We might try it in the future though.

@@THYZOID You could extract chromium from stainless steel by turning it into a soluble chromate which can be separated from iron and nickel impurities. After that the chromate can be reduced to a soluble chromium(III) salt.

That's Calcium Carbide, CaC2, Calcium Carbonate is CaCO3

Woher bekommst du denn Chemikalien wie Schwefelsäure, diese wurde ja verboten. Hast du irgend nen schein oder so?

Noch ist der BESITZ von konz H2SO4 erlaubt. Ab nächstem Jahr nicht mehr dann muss ich auf andere legale Alternativen wie 15% H2SO4, SO2Cl2 (Recherche über Legalität noch nicht vollendet), SO3 und Chlorsulfonsäure ausweichen

@@THYZOID Mein Problem ist eben das ich ungern im Internet Chemikalien wie Säuren bestelle, früher konnte ich halt einfach batteriesäure kaufen und destillieren. Ich werde sie mir jetzt wohl selbst herstellen.

Die konz. Schwefelsäure (jetzt bekomme ich die natürlich auch nicht mehr verkauft) sowie spezialisierte und giftige Chemikalien kaufe ich in einem Laden in der Nähe. Für manches muss ich unterschreiben für das meiste allerdings nicht.

Nope Darmstadt. H2SO4 konz. bekommst du trotzdem nicht mehr. Dafür aber H2SO4
