Thank you for all your comments. I don't think any of us thought that it was inappropriate to drink during the performance - I certainly did not. I don't think I was drinking, but only because I don't really handle drinks that well. It is really enlightening to read how people that know feel. It makes the experience even more special. I believe that everyone thought that the dance is an ancient ritual that does not currently have religious meaning. No one of the group would ever offend another culture intentionally. Public comments. India is a beautiful country with lots of resources and opportunity . cooperation is vital to sustain quality of life . education is vital part of leadership and confidence in India economy for growth and development in India .
It is alright to take the tourists to the various places of historical importance and take them to see the actual living condition of our people. If they are interested in knowing or witnessing our cultural programmes, they have to go to an Auditorium where these things are arranged. Merely bringing artists to their hotel and make them dance before them as seeing things in an Exhibition is not in good taste. Our arts are divine and proper respect should be given to that. It is not for exhibition on a price to foreigners.
Great documentary. But you could have abstained from drinking alcohol during Bharathanatyam as a way of giving respect to this wonderful art and to the artists.
+Relaxingtime4me..I agree with you bro..Even the person who is travelling and working as guide is abusing all the leaders and telling very badly about our places..I am controlling bad words because I am a decent fellow and very sad for us to see this ugly scene when foreigners drunk and asked beautiful kids to perform our richest heredity art "BHARATHANATYAM".. ..I don't blame them because they have shown respect so far and it's their culture..We have to teach them as what we should do on when..We have to blame that idiot guide here
srikanth s Enjoying an art under the influence of foreign substance such as alcohol/drug is considered as a bad thing in our culture. It is particularly an offense if it is during Bharathanatyam. It is a divine art, these artists are not there just for money or fame. They are doing a service to the Lord Shiva through this art. It should be respected as such, not as a light dance in a club. The audience are supposed to experience the divine through the art. I felt really sorry for the artists. They are trying to be respectful because we consider the foreigners as guests. But as you say, it is not the foreigners fault. They don't know these things. It is the fault of the guide. I know he said many wrong and bad things about our country, I don't know whether it was his intention or not. Let us hope he learns from his mistakes.
