It probably had a crack somewhere in the block and was losing water. They put stop leak in it and it leaked into the oil pan and it mixed with the oil and pumped into the upper chamber of the oil galleys.
New engine might be in order but you can only learn more by tearing into it. Thanks for sharing. 👉🇺🇸👈 👊😎👍

The aluminum water pump corroded into the hose. Next time cut the clamp off the hose if the bolt breaks.

I think that was the first year for that engine and it had oil issues causing blown engines , this was a 1963 only issue. A friend told me some years back he got a 63 Cadillac limo, body and interior was perfect with a hole in side of the engine, it's had been a funeral home car, he bought it from a wreaking yard

@@Americana777 on the good side my aunt's good friend, told me her husband bought her a new 63 Cadillac convertible, she took very good care of it and drove it into the 80s and sold it for more than he paid new, so they didn't all do this.
It's a beautiful car cleaned up so good luck with it

I wish it would be that easy but at this point it would be wrong to try and use the original motor without an overhaul

@@Americana777 if the block is cracked you’ll probably have to replace it. A complete good running motor from the junk yard might be cheaper. I don’t know much about Cadillac but you might be able to find a motor for a GM car that will bolt onto the transmission and use it.

I've unsiezed engines a lot worse than that but the amateurish way you lads went about stripping it down (REALLY! Can't you use the internet??), it certainly will be now after you smash a 6lb hammer into the bores.
    Good luck lads.

Using a motor in this condition would be foolish, this is what you call a "boat anchor" cylinder walls are pitted, at best it needs bored over, 390s are underpowered anyways, thanks for watching!
