horse-drawn railway, Bojanice brickworks, Poland

  • The brickworks at Bojanice in the Powiat Leszczyński of Poland operated a short railway with horses. It was no hard work for the horse to pull the empty wagons along the clay pit to the excavator. The loaded wagons then returned downhill by gravity to the edge of the pit and were hauled up an incline into the factory by rope and diesel engine. The brickworks closed around 2018. The horse-drawn railway might have been the last non-tourist operation of its kind world-wide.

Very nice that video? Congratulation? I think you misunderstood the intent of this video! By name, the guy who made the video is German. This also fits with an attempt to show Poland as backward where horses are used instead of machines. But branding Poland as backward, as one can see from the comments, didn't work. In fact, this is just an example of pragmatism in Poland! Horses are cheaper than machines and are only replaced when necessary. This is a working method and there is no need to change it! This is not backwards but reasonable! In fact, it's even modern, because this method of transport is very environmentally friendly. This is an environment friendly process because it is a totally environment friendly transport method because that is clean and without pollution so carbon neutral.

Back to 17th? Yes, that was the intention of the video! Well recognized, Poland should be branded as a backward country where 17th century methods are used for transportation! By name, the guy who made the video is German. This also fits with an attempt to show Poland as backward where horses are used instead of machines. But branding Poland as backward, as one can see from the comments, didn't work. In fact, this is just an example of pragmatism in Poland! It's amazing that railways started of like this, with wooden rails and horse pulled wagons. Things have changed a lot! But as the saying goes: why fix what isn't broken?
It was a simple job and a real locomotive would have only complicated matters. Besides this is so much better for your lungs and ears to work with.
