  • This video is all about erasing techniques for airbrush painting. Hopefully this is useful to those new to airbrushing and leaning the fundamentals. In the next tutorial we will be working on painting advanced skin textures, so this tutorial is intended to compliment that video.
    The tools I'm using are-
    Faber-Castell Perfection 7058B and Staedtler Mars rasor eraser pencils
    X-Acto Blades (#1 and #2)
    an Airbrush Needle
    sunDolphin Sand Erasers
    Electric Erasers (Dewent USB and Staedtler)
    a Dremel Stylo+, Sandpaper (150 grit)
    Tombow Mono Sand Eraser
    The paints used are createx illustration colors, com-art, and golden high flow acrylics. All were sprayed on smooth canvas I set up myself using liquitex gesso, a taping knife, and sand paper. Tutorial to set up your own smooth canvas- • How to Prepare the Smo...
    For those of you who noticed, I misspelled "transparent" in the video. I spotted this after this post, so I apologize to the grammar-police who spotted this mistake. :) Thanks for watching!

    Another great informative video, its funny how you seem to use all the same brands I use, but I always seem to learn new stuff! got to get a keyless chuck!!! now here's a problem i have... I paint on MDF (hardboard) sometimes ACM I buy from Homedepot that I gesso (4-6 layers) and sand to an ultra smooth finish then i paint with Createx wicked illustration Comart and Golden high flow white (which to me is the best white to flow out of an AB). I even use colored pencil and acrylic marker. so here's my issue... what would you varnish or top coat with? I'm gonna try an isolation coat of gel medium thinned then Liquitex gloss varnish. Do you have any suggestions on technics or timing? anything better? this is for client pieces. Thanks Raoul

      I painted on MDF for so many years! It's great until you start larger paintings. It just gets too heavy, so I switched to canvas. You can get it just as smooth as MDF in 8-10 coats. Takes a while but is worth it.

    • @theartworkshop
      @theartworkshop  Před 2 lety +2

      I have a full video coming up in the next 2-3 weeks all on isolation coats and varnishing. To sum it up, I never use gel medium for this. Multiple coats of liquitex matte medium sprayed through an HVLP. You can thin with 10% water if needed. Spray at a low psi (20 or so), and spray the lightest dusting for the first coat to set the original painting in. Too much and you'll ruin it. Just go slow. Full video to come! Hope it helps you out.

      Rafa! Love your paintings my friend. It works best with smaller erasers (4mm or smaller). I bought it on amazon. I'm sure they are available on eBay too!

    Do you have a link for the sun dolphin sand eraser refills? Delivery for the UK hopefully? I have a derwent electric eraser but am struggling to find the sand eraser refills. Cheers!

      I found them here on amazon uk- amzn.to/3rqUQk8
      These seem way over priced though! I paid about $10 for a pack of them. Before you order any, see if your Derwent eraser can remove the paint with the white erasers. Usually works well for createx illustration colors.

    Do you know if erasing as you do is possible on Dibond panels.?

    • @theartworkshop
      @theartworkshop  Před 18 dny

      Yes- Dibond is pretty good stuff, Cyril. It's a very solid surface to paint on for these techniques. Erasing works very well, but the feel is different from synthetic paper or gessoed canvas. See if you can buy a small panel to test out, maybe paint a study to get a feel for it. It's a very nice surface though!

    Why use xacto blades instead of a regular scalpel blade?

    • @theartworkshop
      @theartworkshop  Před 2 lety +1

      xacto blades are easier to replace for me. Either will work just fine.

    Love all your videos but no matter what i tried the paint stick so well on the gessoed surface that i am not able to duplicate any of your “erasing” techniques. I am using the exact same paint and the gesso is applied using a drywall tape knife like how you showed in the other video.🥲
