Your video about playing "drums" with pencils was amazing (and made me a subscriber) and this video is more of the same. I loved it! I am a songwriter of mostly country music and I thought you did an excellent job, especially since country music isn't your go-to genre. I thought that all components of the song, especially the lyrics, came together superbly and you created a wonderful song. Keep up the good work!
Why does this man not have a million subscibers? I like musicians making a whole song from scratch. Best wishes from Germany. P.S.: Would buy an album made by you, for sure. Liked the result even without being raised with this kind of music.
I'm an old rocker, but I love country music too. One of the funnest times of my life was the early 90s I was playing bass in a top 40 country band. Great songs from that era! Another funny thing, I grew up in the country/rural upstate New York and now live in North Carolina. And one thing I've learned is that "redneck", well, redneck ain't state specific! Hahaha. Love your music and vids friend, they're refreshing in a world of crazy!
Your video about using pencils to create a beat was fantastic. That peaked my interest in your content and finally lead me to the country song. That song is awesome musically and the lyrical theme describes a wonderfully simple but fulfilling life. I think you get it. Write more country.
You are a genre chameleon. You understood the brief, and you delivered on point. Really, really good. Talent is talent, and you decide how it's expressed. Never limit yourself.
They're a lot of fun! And definitely not bad for how cheap they are. One of these days I'd like to try a pedal steel. Seems like it would be a mixture of piano and guitar.
So... This is accurate for a lot of older country, but around the mid 90's, mainstream Nashville started getting creative with a bunch of interesting music theory to break up the open chord rhythms, plus modern country comes in many varieties now, several of which aren't very "country" at all. Country kids today don't recognize country songs without hip-hop electric drum beats and rap sections.
I hear a song in here that helped inspire this. Maybe? Hey there Delilah? @9:12 "summer nights and pillow fights and making love under moonlight, the other things dont mean that much to me". sounds so close to "A thousand miles seems pretty far but they've got planes and trains and cars I'd walk to you if I had no other way".
One of the best country songs in history did use practically all of these, but you gotta use the country song tropes; mama, trains, trucks, prison, getting drunk, rain, and somebody cheated and now they're talking about divorce. (David Alan Coe wrote a song called "You Never Even Called Me by My Name" and the lyrics include prison, getting drunk, the rain, his mama, and a train, for the win.) If they never sing about any of those things, then they are not a real country music star. People have come at me before when I say I hate country music, because A) they know I'm lying, because if "Jolene" comes on I'm belting it out, because we all do and B) if I do truly hate country music, then it must be because I know nothing about it. Well, fun fact, anything other than county music was not allowed in my house when I was a kid. I was probably about 10 years old or so when I first heard other kinds of music, and realized that they played other music on the radio, and it blew my mind. And we're talking disco era music here. So, no I really don't hate country music, but I only like the old stuff, and the new stuff that sounds old. I said all of this to say that, for a first time country song, it's pretty awesome. And extra points for still sounding country with "pillow fight" in the lyrics.
It’s so funny. It’s Green Day again. But hey, who cares. Just redo it in your Green Day sound-a-like style and it’s a winner. For country rock, try checking out Taylor Swift country arrangements. She has so many hits. Top notch writer/performer.
Agreed! I find it interesting how there are literally an infinite number of things to sing about but popular music mainly focuses on a select few topics. I guess singing about your pet fish isn't "relatable" enough!
I like your format and style. Somehow that brought back memories of a different song, also by people out of their element singing about simple things. In this case, Germans doing an irish folk song. Hey, the train beat is there, too. “I don’t need a new car, I’m happy with my crate” … czcams.com/video/flw80MV4_x0/video.html
I feel like you're making broad generalizations about the technical simplicity of country music, which feels somewhat reductive. While it's true a lot of country just uses cowboy chords, there are some absolutely insanely talented country musicians who are just as technically skilled as any other genre. Listen to Jerry Reed, doc Watson (could make the argument he's folk not country) even Willie nelson goes weirdly chromatic sometimes. Plenty of country songs are totally outside the box and crazy, just pop country sounds like pop music so it'll be simpler.
The story behind the Lawn Chair is interesting. My best childhood friend moved across the country when I was 18. I was understandably upset, and when I went back to his house after he moved the Lawn Chair was one of the only things his family left behind. I've used it ever since I've had my home studio. My thought process is that you should never be too comfortable!
That's a mighty fine country song pardner.

Awesome! You are very talented. I really liked the lyrics, too.
Not a country fan ... but OMG that was brilliantly put together. If I could sub more than once I would.
Fellow simple, music lover from Texas. It's quite simple my friend, I love this.
You are extremely talented and this song is great...keep up the great work bud and you deserve more

Country is one of the less genres I never tried. Challenge accepted for next year. Amazing how this lap steel adds the countryness to it.
Rogue oughta send you a check in the mail because I immediately purchased one of those lap steels for myself after hearing it in this video.

The immediate apology after the over the top country accent put a smile on my face. Thanks partner!
Nice Music theory 👍

Such a gift! Great song!
You sir have a creative process.
That was so touchy, love how authentic you are ❤
You make great videos with actual music making and teaches me to focus on songwriting more than gear
Great thanks !
Loved it. Well done!

Oh man! I can't stand country music (Dolly Parton being the only exception) and you now! Kick ass song!! I love it! 👏👏👏
Thank you so much!
AWWW HELL YEA
YEE HAW
I like that you didn't write about stuff you don't know about. Some Country Artists need to do the same.

@@songsbyspencer I'm enjoying your content. Found you through the drumming video. Keep up the good work!
Cool song, what tuning u used for lap guitar?

Dude are you using ChatGPT to write your takeaways? 🤔
(Good on you if so!)
I usually write them out manually, then have ChatGPT rewrite it, then do a hybrid of the 2 versions.

Don't do it mate-Country can only done Ironically! The Stones are the best country band
I love that you have thousands of dollars worth of gear but then sit on a $13 garden chair haha

@@songsbyspencer that’s actually really cool lol. I’d worry about breaking it at that point though! But it also seems weird to not use lol
