    There's one problem that I have with all your videos. It's that you are a great photographer, and I truly believe that you can make any camera look great. Even if you had an old disposable film camera, you would be able to convince me that I should go out and get one. Your photos look like what I always wish I took. But I truly appreciate your work and videos. You show that it's not the camera, so much as it is the photographer, just as a great author doesn't write a better novel, just because they use a "better" typewriter.

I've since grabbed a 4K camera as well but still shoot video with the A7 fairly often. Still own 0 FE lens too, mostly Sigma Art Lens E mounts and a PILE of old Minolta Maxxum 35mm AF lens from the 1990's aka Sony A mount which are pretty inexpensive. The LA-EA4 adapter is a bit pricey but I think it was well worth its price.

      January 2020 I bought the Sony kit 28-70 lens used for only 1 day, and for only $175 no tax and I love it also because it takes very good quality photos and has built in stabilization OSS which really helps because the Sony A7 doesn't have any built in stabilization. Yet I only paid $540 open box return with full warranty for it so it was my no-brainer to switch from a Sony DSC-HX9V super zoom to buying the Sony A7 for $540 dirt cheap for a quality full frame mirrorless. So I just buy used Sony stabilized lenses as I already had my 5 antique manual lens that I bought new in 1981 for my film SLR Contax 139 Quartz they would be $3,000 nowadays.

    Sony a7 is the cheapest and the most underpowered camera of the nine Sony full frame e-mount a7 series cameras (I include the a9). I have the Sony a7. I bought the camera body new in 2015 for 950€ and it was a bargain. The next cheaper full frame digital camera was the Canon 6D at around 1400$. Until 2010 I was using typical zoom compact cameras and I didn't know the difference or the importance of lenses.
    In 2011 I bought at half price for 250€ the Sony NEX 3 new. Immediately I was amazed by its possibilities and the importance of lenses. I started watching CZcams tutorial videos and began to know the basics of photography. Gradually I understood that most of the best affordable lenses in the market are full frame. Of course there are great APS-C lenses like the Sigma 16-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art or excellent medium format Hasselblad lenses but for most serious photographers the only choice is the full frame lenses. Additionally I like manual focus with adapters and nearly all legacy lenses from the film era are full frame. eBay is full of cheap but really good Minolta autofocus a-mount lenses. I have bought the LA-EA4 adapter for 200€ new and I use many old Minolta autofocus a-mount lenses. The autofocus with the LA-EA4 adapter isn't very fast but I am not a sport or wild life photographer.
    Sony a7 has permitted me to use many professional lenses without spending a lot of money. I have bought some Canon FD lenses too.
    Sony a7 can be found new in 2018 for 700€ and that is fantastic. The APS-C Sony a6000which is just one year younger is still sold by many shops for 450€.

    I got mine used (6600 exposures, iirc) for 4000sek/440usd from a store, including a battery and 30 days warranty. Pretty sweet deal; it's not the latest and greatest, but I love this thing. Being able to use and afford old manual lenses on this is the killer feature, and I love that it's quite good in low light. I hate the menus and I wish it had a joystick, but I can deal with those problems.
    My vintage lens collection is growing: Tokina 135/2.8 and 28/2.8, Pentax M 50/2, Canon FD 50/1.4, and a Canon 50/3.5 macro is in the mail. I still want a fast 85mm, and perhaps a 35mm

    I bought my a7 on b&h after seeing Matias videos. Still waiting for my cousin back from US with it on nexts days. (In my country the 2nd hand has the US price for the new, and the new cost about 2x the US price.. I hate it) Meanwhile I keep watching Matias videos hehe. But was some kind frustrating reading some comments about the cheap price you can get for it instead of $1098 I paid for the body + kit lens 28-70... Anyway, some dollars more or less I am sure I got a great camera for still photography. For video I think gonna be hard to beat my bmpcc... Let's see

      For pictures, I don't like the videoquality. I can't change the premade pictureprofiles in any way.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  Před 6 lety +1

      three company I don't think I understand. Do you shoot raw or jpeg?

    • @threecompany5339
      @threecompany5339 Před 6 lety

      Mainly RAW. But half of the time I'm shooting RAW + JPEG for quicker turnaround. I would love to have better picture profiles (or creative styles as they are known in the menu), to have better jpeg's. Editable 'creative styles' would be nice as well. Furthermore, you can match the camera's picture-profiles in Lightroom to the RAW. If they were better I wouldn't have to change so much in post. Love the quality of this camera, but I'm not very fond of Sony's colour science. Does this answer your question, Mattias? I'm sorry if my point didn't come across very well. English is not my native tongue. Also, could I bother you for some advice. Do you think a Fuji would suit my needs better. Do you think I should consider the A7 II or A7 R II or III. The picture profiles are editable .Unless I'm mistaken. I haven't used a Fuji or different Sony camera.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  Před 6 lety

      I don't know. I guess Fujis profiles are nicer but I have stopped using them. I make my own in Lightroom.
      I have set a custom white balance tint in my A7 which gives me nice images straight from the camera. But I still do some adjustments.

    got mine for 250 on facebook marketplace xD was so scared to get scammed but all it needed was a sensor cleaning. so happy to have it.😍the only negative thing i can say about this camera is that the ergonomics suck. the button layout is sure nostalgic if you shot 60 year old analog cameras before but that doesn't make the ergonomics "good" in my opinion. i prefer the modern canon/nikon type grips. but this is even today still the best bang for your buck when it comes to full frame fotography on a budget.

    Most important combination of things, which other cameras dont have, are:
    - FULL FRAME
    - EVF
    - AF Points everywhere
    - Focus peaking and easy adapting manual lenses
    And, wait for it:
    - TILT ADAPTER! God this is something amazing for portraits.

  • @wickie4801
    @wickie4801 Před 5 lety

    Yeah - keep on rockin`and rollin`with this alltime great Sony. The A7 original one has the best price-performance-ratio ever - after 5 years you can have entrylevel to fullframe level - I´ve payed 777 Euros for a new one with Kit-Lense, bag and 32-SD Card.The best: it`s the lightest/smallest one you can take. Something to complain? Forget it - peanuts. It´s not an old camera...it´s a good camera. So it`s rollin and rollin like a VW-Bug of the 60`s...Oldie but Goldie.

    I keep saying that Sony has really put the camera industry on notice and taken over.No one from another channel had ever shared this information and it's easy to see why.I am in the market for something mirrorless,and I do have some glass i can probably use,so I dont think i need anything new that's out.Let me go check and see what the prices are here in NYC.

    Hi Mattias, is the iso performance better than the fujifilm xt2? JPEG from xt2 above 1600 ISO is ugly (especially for skin). Then, what is the best affordable manual lens (23mm full frame -> don't need adapter) for A7? Thanks

    Dude! I instantly subscribed. I'm a 100% newbie when it comes to dslrs but I want to capture the world wether it's picture.
    I've wanted to buy this camera for a while. Before this, i was aiming for a Cannon T3i.
    But the sensors in Sony I've heard are huge, so I instantly changed my mind. I live in the USA, and I'm really wondering where can I get this for 600$ so I don't have to buy a whole kit for 1,600. Which is what I was going to do. if you could please give me a list of stores I'd supremely appreciate it. Unless I should just get the whole kit. Also I love the length of the video and I love how you get to the point and don't spend a ridiculous amount of unnecessary time like other people. I thank you in advance and I look forward to more content! Awesome job!

    Great video! I absolutely despise the A7s2 menu and battery life -- but -- some of the images taken with my classic Nikkor glass are absolutely breathtaking -- arguably superior to Nikon or Canon anything. Yes, at a steal of a price, I expect that A7 is a very interesting proposition for manual focus. However, the current Sony lens lineup is sad and troublesome on many levels.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  Před 7 lety

      I agree about the lens line. But I must say that the 35mm f2.8 is quite pleasant to use. Loads of CA but sharp, light and small.
      The menus are a pain but Ive had so many Sonys now that I simply "know" them and don't let them get in the way of me anymore.
      Cant wait to see more A7sii footage from you.
