  • As Chief Urban Designer for the City of New York, Alexandros Washburn understands one key thing about designing successful cities: it doesn't work until it works for the pedestrian.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

This is beautiful. So relevant for our times today. Sometimes it is during the toughest times that we see things the most clearly, and we strike the resolve to do our absolute best. May all urban designers have the kind and strong qualities that Mr. Washburn demonstrates and inspires of others.

mbhtx777 That's because most people are semi-literate morons with very poor vocabularies.
Incorrect subject-verb agreement is also rampant.

Check out One Small Town - UBUNTU -(which means "for the good of all") and Michael Tellinger and Alosha Lynov. Very self sustaining and ecological and very human and animal friendly...

evryone should study 911 who did what, who benefited, Building7 - WTC-7 why the 911 NIST - report was the omission report. 911 Architects & engineers has a huge amount of information. the Anthrax was traced back to a US militaryfacility, just as the UK anthrax was also traced back to a UK military facility. Christopher Bollyn has undertaken amazing research, tracing the Money transacted & made during & after 911.

Urban designers have never made meaningful public spaces. The last authentic public space was made when there were no "urban designers" around.
