And they can get away with thinking their information is correct because they've set up the ideal growing environment in their greenhouse. So their plants can tolerate their less than knowledgeable treatment and still bloom for them, while home growers, growing indoors have their plants dying from misinformation. The grower on this page however, clearly knows the ABC's of orchid growing and easily guides new growers towards healthy plants in a less than ideal growing environment inside their home.

This is all extremely simplistic. An orchid flowers when its actively growing. To get it in active growth you need different fert, you need the roots to grow too, some orchids wont tolerate chemical fert, some love it. Most growers use at least three different ferts to bring the orchid into proper bloom. Some orchids will only bloom once a year others many times a year.Temp humidity and light are all critical at different times of the year. You have to research each ones needs. Some need a rest.
I will have to get the right food. I have just been using the stuff I use on my other house plants. The orchid plant itself is growing huge, but it just has never bloomed again since I got it.

a pretty nifty trick with the phalaenopsis is you wait for the last flower to fall on a bloom spike and you cut at the point about a centimeter below where the last flower was and occasionally you can get a second round of blooms. orchids also like change in temperature. if you have a warm day like 75 degrees Fahrenheit let your house heat up to that temperature and then at night close the windows and turn up the a/c to around 5 or 6 degrees colder!

I don't have south facing windows in my home that will accommodate your advice. I have only one east facing window with more orchids that the sill can hold. I also live in the desert southwest. This has been an issue for me. Since the climate is pretty mild in the winter, I'm thinking about placing them outside during the daytime, and bringing them in at night. Would that solve my space dilemma?

that's small baby plant. wait till you see 1-2 roots started growing out, cut the stem and plant it in new pot. the main phal is getting weak, that's why the leaves dropped. Check if the containing is too wet? you should watch out the humility of the main plant, best is to repot it and try to water it once daily if is too dry. If she grow new root, mean is a hope for her again.

Last spring I purchased a clearance phaleenopsis from Lowe's that had been saturated and was in standing water. After repotting, I only gave it a couple teaspoons of diluted coffee 3-4 times a week. Believe it or not it actually bloomed this month! I had 3 blooms on this little plant! I did the ice cube method and fertilizer with a previous orchids and they did not survive. Thought it was odd it turned out so well.

Look for lower light plants things that need less light like philodendron. Pothos, ferns and dieffenbachia are good choices. Try an alarm clock with a light on it as well.
It's not easy to lower the room temperature to 50f or 60f at night because humans can be freezing instead. I keep my room temperature around 72f to 75f all year round. Will that steady temperature be problem for my orchids? One of my orchids has only one flower bloom looking miserable.
It depends on what types of orchids you're growing but as a rough rule, orchids bloom more reliably if there is a difference in day and night temperatures with a 10 degree difference being ideal. If you can't give them that difference year round, you could consider putting them outside on a window ledge for the summer months where they will have a better chance of experiencing a nightly drop and therefore blooming may be induced.
it is not that easy with orchids, me personally only divide my orchids after blooming when they have enough healthy roots and a keiki start to develop. Search for keiki replant.

Is it okay to alternate between the ‘grow’ and ‘bloom’ food? So it does both?
