Imagine emerging in the daylight from your shelter to find your home and all your possessions completely flattened 🙁

Does this take me back to the Anderson air aid shelter during the war. My brother and I slept in the cupboard under the stairs, till we got one. For some reason when the Germans dropped a bomb on your house, people were killed and everything got smashed except the stairs. The gas was turned off as a precaution, and my Mum’s Christmas cake had a hollow in it. And she blamed Hitler for it!! I can’t tell you what my father sang , it was about Hitler and something to do with a round shaped object, ! It had us kids laughing our heads off, and my mum saying. What’s so funny?

They still had these in our Gardens in East London in the 70s when I was young. Over grown, rusty and some was in flattened and buried!

I wouldn't be able to sleep thinking that my house may be gone by the time I wake up in the morning.

My Nan got bombed out 7 times as she was a poplar girl. We took her to a war museum aged 90 with the sounds etc. she broke down in tears in seconds. I can’t imagine the pain and hardship these people had. The stories she has are mind boggling. I’m so glad she has wrote a diary about them
