Another helpful tip for me was approaching things like bumps, small curbs and rail tracks diagonally instead of head on. That way it's much harder for both of your wheels to get blocked at the same time.
thats a good tip! It may only work in specific scenarios though, because narrower areas could prove difficult. nonetheless, for wider paths, this is definitely true!
Was practicing riding today at my campus and fell and broke my wrist. Wish i saw this video before that happened 😂
OH NO! I hope you get better soon!
Wow...that sucks, dont b 2 discouraged
You forgot a big one. When possible, attach cracks and crevices diagonally instead of straight on. Makes the riding much smoother
A good tip that I feel goes unnoticed, even though it’s told all the time: bend you knees
Another thing I found out for getting over these giant cracks or bumpers:
When you push, think about it as actually walking.
Just place your push foot down near the bumper and lean your body weight on your push foot (80-100%) to reduce the downward pressure on your skateboard. It lets you just push your board over the bumper und lets you ride over it as if it wasn't there.
Just got a cruiser board. I'm 42 and Haven't been on a board in years but wanted to start again just to get some exercise. This video was great.
This is so great. We often receive questions from customers asking for tips on how to skate in urban areas. We'll start directing them all to your channel!!!
Glad you guys liked the vid! You all are awesome!!😁
Love how your videos are always super down to earth even though you're clearly very professional :) Would love some more tips on sharp turns using cruiser boards, I find that it's harder to comfortably shift balance to the tail (in comparison to regular skateboards)
Thank you! Vid may come soon to help with that :)
Extremely useful video. The demoing of the tricks before doing them is awesome.
glad you liked it :D
Thank you man, I'm new to skate and your videos are those who are helping me the most!
Thank you so much for this video! Especially the section on how to get over cracks!! Approaching them at an angle is also good but LIFTING OFF WEIGHT - damn, never thought about that!!!
I love that most of your tutorials include cruiser boards! Thank you
just started at the U of M and this was so helpful for getting around campus, esp the bit about getting over cracks :))
bro absolutely love the vibes in this video, hope you're doing good! thanks for the tips
Thanks for the helpful video man. I’m 100% going to try out these tips!
I'm from this campus, I was a gopher! I recognized everywhere you skate, which is pretty cool. Those light rail tracks are pretty rough- I was trying to pop my wheels on them once. I have big wheels but I flew forward and got a giant vertical cut across my face, exactly where you were filming too!
Thanks for very useful video!! These tips were exactly what I needed
Hey man! Your video is so useful for me and easy to understand. Thanks! From Thailand 🤟🏻
Hey man awesome tips thank you
I am new to longboard, and your videos are so informative and valuable. Thank you!
I think your chillen you should only really be worried about this with skateboards from my experience longboards are much easier to get over stuff with
Thanks for uploading! Was helpful👍Is harder to get around in a city that doesnt care about its infrastructure 😅😂 I also got a cruiser and find that it helps to just lift the front wheels when goin over cracks etc. (or lift one's weight like u did). Keep it up buddy! 🛹
just got the same board delivered today specially for college and now im ready to learn this! LETS GOOO
speed tip is real, I feel every time I slow every tiny obstacle is my enemy lol
im always so happy when you upload man, your channel deserves so much more recognition, keep it up :)
awww thank you! I'll keep doing my thing over here so maybe I'll get some more people to see what I'm doing here haha!
Great advice! 👍
Great video dude, Can you talk about the powerslide.
It helped alot bro nice one 🔥❤️
Very helpful thank you so much
Great Tips, tks from Brazil.
These sidewalks smooth af
good tip!! thank you!!
Good video. I got the Dinghy Turbo Flight and the Plow King wheels make all of the cracks way easier to deal with and they are fast! I came from a Penny Nickle board and that would get stuck on many of the same cracks my Dinghy goes over with no problem. I'm down in Rochester, MN.
Yeah man, the turbo flight is awesome! and you're in rochester??? thats where Im from! Currently in minneapolis but I'll be in roch over winter break and likely the summer too :)
thank u bro helped alot!!
Love the videos man!
Thank you!
Thanks for the vid! More city cruiser videos pleaaaase! 🙌
for sure!!!
Thanks dude. Im a beginner and wanna practice as much as i can cause im a new rider but little things can be a challenge
I am practicing these on the weekend in locations that I immediately recalled watching this :)
Hope I don't kill myself doing that tail break!
Thanks for the video mate 🤙🤙🤙
oh you know these spots? Do you go to the U of M?
@@OgdenSikel
Not like that
I mean there are spots that always bother me while I cruise in the city
I live in Germany 😅
and I am going to go to those spots to practice
@@OgdenSikel i live in mn n hit the east river road on my board usually hit 35 40 mph the cobblestone sidewalks are sketch tho should go for a rip this summer
Another fantastic video, such an underrated CZcamsr
thank you!
I am just 49 years old 😅
I want to start to ride skateboard and I love your videos! Useful, well explained for beginners like me!
I have plan to buy a Mindless Gothic 84.0. Any advices, much appreciated 👍 🤙🏽
Thanks a lot
Wow. Amazing masterclass. Landyachtz dynghi have the best shapes deck. Thanks for your video. Regards ftom Buenos Aires
Thank you!
W Ogden video as always
5:44 -> 62mm width! Great vid!! nice tips
u r the best bro
I sometimes also instead of hopping I raise the nose a bit to get over the obstacle and then put all my weight on the front truck so that the back truck can snap over the crack or edge
Thanks mate
Good video, nice gloves, is it for the cold?
So good ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍
great tutorial
can vouch for those plow kings, those suckers make it so easy to go over grates, train tracks, and other scary looking obstacles. Those kings can plow
Thank you
i did this already with esk8 and street wheels🤙🏼🤙🏼
man what's skateboard you r using? it looks great I wanna get one
Thanks
Try the waterborne surf adapter 😁
Nice vid
Brother your board looks fairly similar to my mindless cruiser. I want those wheels so bad as the roads here are so bad and I’m constantly going over rough terrain. But I’m worried about them rubbing off the board as they’re 12mm wider in diameter than the ones that came with the board. I have the lil cutout on the board like yours but I doubt there’s and extra 12mm space on a full lean
Great video, thanks!
Great tips, thanks Ogden. Quick question: Was your skateboard designed to accommodate the large wheels that you installed? I am curious if they ever caused you any wheel bite?
Yes, he is basically using a hybrid longboard
Personally I like riding 52mm I like the speed & agility the sound of hard wheels too
Just a question what is you’re intro music for this vid please 🙏🏽 😅
I broke my arm skateboarding down a pussy ass hill.... Hurt my pride!!
I'm pushing through skateboarding as much as I possibly can. People don't understand how hard skateboarding can be.
Yay you listened to the poll results!
of course! :)
How do you record video like this when look at camera while moving? What if there is a bump in a road? How would you stay and not fall?
i fell from running off with too much forward momentum because there was a person on their phkne standing on the sidewalk and i paniced even though i probably should've just yelled for them to watch out ¯\(ツ)/¯ (they were in the centre of the fairly narrow sidewalk
what is your setup? can you powerslide on that?
The ollie is the one thing left to learn for me u.u
Yeah and it's the hardest, mainly due to getting your consistency down to be able to make it viable to use
You using 1/4” risers for them plow kings?
@ogden and others, how do you tackle a long steep downhill on a winding sidewalk where you keep picking up speed? Footbreak the whole way?
If there’s space you can slide, kick the back out. Look for vids on longboard or cruiser board power slides.
Looking for video rolling over brick street area.
I have the same kind of board land yacht
Do I want to know how to skate my skateboard in the city? The question is a bit complicated and I want to answer this question. I'm pretty sure that the answer is yes, but I think there are two basic requirements.
First of all, I would love to skate my skateboard in a city where there isn't a skateboard or skateboardpark near you and where skating is strictly prohibited on city property. And second, I would love to have a city or state where skateboarding is banned on city property due to public health concerns. One way or another the city of Portland will be enforcing just that and this has been a major issue for the last ten years while the other issues have been minor issues and have nothing to do with skateboarding.
So yes, you can call to the office of city council to learn if it is really necessary for your city to be enforcing skateboarding rules.
Can anyone suggest how do we stop like 100 to 0 of speed without scraping our tail. I think that's the only efficient way of stopping besides braking with foot but that's also didn't work in an emergency situation. Any other recommendations? 🤔
Are 55mm wheels enought for street
For going to a place to another is better a carver or a cruiser?
I'd say cruiser, also less difficult to balance on when just starting out if that's your situation
I've got a question. What do I do in situation like this: I drive on a steep and long downhill on walkpath which is made out of like 30x30cm concrete blocks. They're kinda smoothh to ride but I'm gaining very high speeds and the end of downhill is busy road with cars and lights. How do I slow down? I remember being scared as fuck but I managed to slow down on time with my foot and steering at the end of downhill, since walkpath was like 1,5 meters wide. Cruiserboard beginner here btw
Cruiser is easier. Is there grass on the side? Cause then you can roll in and jump off the board. Also recommend learning to slow down with mini powerslides
@@Duckt1le Hill was too steep for powerslide and pathwalk too narrow. Also if I would jump off my board on grass, then the board would go straight into busy road, which could hurt someone
@@kishel7 ohh ok just go slow and stop with foot
Buenas que precio tiene la tabla en este momento 2022
Hi I bought a cruiser board last year but find it really hard to reduce speed or stop on a long ramp. If I just use my shoes it costs me too much😢 what’s a proper way to reduce speed?
Hey, i had the same problem when I started haha. So, what I usually do, is stepping the floor with the back foot, like, you put it next to the nose of the board, and kinda "pull backwards", dont let your shoe slide so you don't fuck them up haha. And another tip, LEARN HOW TO DO FRONT AND BACKSIDE SLIDES, you reduce speed really fast, and if you are going a lot faster, you're just gonna fall if doing the step thing, or at least it´s not gonna be enough to break quickly.... Yeahh, they are scary at the beginning, but practice them on a nice floor before going to concrete and big ramps
Yo bro will it effect my 63mm standard wheels if I skate on rough roads or asphalt sidewalks? Or do i need some offroad wheels
Man I ride rough roads and sidewalks on a size 8.0 with bones 52mm 100a wheels, those big bastards you got should do the job just fine, if you want more smoothe comfort, I'd go for softer if you're riding on 99a wheels. The bigger and softer, the better for cruising on all terrain, I wouldn't even go for offroads unless you really want to hit dirt with that thing.
Is it possible to 'kickturn' with that cruiser?
Ye it is but its gonna be heavy af & way harder than if u got street wheels bc cruiser wheels are way bigger than street wheels. If u wanna learn to kick turn & ollie, get some 100 durometer street wheels bc that's the only proper way to learn
Hi! Tell ma please, what kind of wheels does this board have? What is the diameter?
Hawgs plow king 72mm
Minneapolis lol 😂
Would you say 60 mm is big enough for wheels?
hey, I’ve got 60mm hawgs on my dinghy blunt. Whilst I can say it isn’t terrible, it’s by no means ideal for skating on the street. I would recommend 63mm and above.
You can definitely just learn to ollie on a longboard.
Tips for getting higher ollies?
if u already got the ollie... just do it often(like, everytime you can haha) and really focus on poping the tail, getting air time, and then kick the mf board with the other foot hahah Good luck 😉
1:58 sounds like your on a train.
Or you can you know. Ollie over larger cracks
Cracks? dont take them straight on, that helps
5:55 don’t forget homeless people if you live in California! 🤪
No judgement but wondering why you have a girls tennis team hoodie, no hate or judgment
Tennis skirts 🥵
@@Narvin69 lol I just was wondering if he played for a girls team or something or if his gf was just a unit
for the love of god, put some wax on your bushings
Try to skate in Latin America and then we talk... haha
Nice vid, but I'd say if u wanna ollie & kick turn, dont use a cruiser board bc cruiser/longboard wheels are heavy af & make learning to ollie 10× harder than if u jus use street wheels, which there are more of them nowadays that can handle crusty spots & negate having to put longboard wheels on a cruiser. Dont cop out & use them bc tick tacking & lifting ur board is vital & u can only get a proper feel for that with street wheels. Using soft big wheels is lazy & not acknowledging proper board control bc if ur gonna kick turn, lift the tail to go off kerbs & ollie, u need good board control which u can literally only get by learning with small & hard street wheels. Dont even attempt the big ass cracks if u got street wheels cos u gonna eat shit like u wont believe if u do - thats only possible with cruiser/longboard type wheels😅
0:23 - ... and t'day we're goin' to be sk8in' without nose... 🙄 Pees
