    The way you review this lens makes me realize that extension tubes are better in every way : less expensive, smaller size in your bag, optical quality preserved as well as AF and EXIF, better versatility if you own several lenses ...

    Another great video with very useful information. Your videos makes it easier to make choices before buying equipment. I feel sure you do honest reviews with your own honest opinion. Allthough you talk fast - you are easy to understand for a person like me - not having English as my first language. Continue making the good videos you make. As a Fujifilm user you and Omar are my two favorite channels to watch.

    I love the fisheye from TTArtisan, maybe you can do a revision of that too. It is just for fun, but sometimes you have to have fun with photographing.... love the enthusiastic way you do this! I bought and now recommend the Venus Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2:1 macro APO for Fuji X mount. Sharp as heck, even wide open and in corners. Price is $400 and is recommended by some serious macro experts. I was able to buy at $350 on sale a few months ago. It does double duty for me to fill in the long end of my set of small primes: 9/2.8, 16/2.8, 35/2, and 65/2.8.

    An alternative is a 1970s vintage Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 AI-S with a Nikon-to-Fuji adapter. It's one of the sharpest lenses Nikon ever made, even wide open. It only focuses to 2:1 however. Used prices vary quite a bit but are comparable or cheaper than the TT Artisans including the adapter.

  • @Deminimis2

    I had the 60mm lens. The way it focussed made me nervous so I sold it. Sometimes when I look at a photo that I took with it I shake my head because it is one of my favorites. My intent was to get the 80mm but felt it was over-kill for me. So I looked around and found the Laowa 65mm. I mostly hand hold, use focus peaking, lean forward and backward and pray to get focussed shots. But for me it is all about fun. I sometimes use flash and kind of like manual focus with no metadata. It keeps me thinking. But if Fuji ever updates the 60mm……💰💵💸

  • @CWReace
    @CWReace Před 2 lety +3

    I recently picked up a used copy of the Fuji 60mm macro, which could be a good in-between option between this lens and the Fuji 80mm. The 60mm is an older lens with iffy auto-focus and "only" reaches 1:2 magnification, but it's pretty compact and I've been getting nice results with it so far. But yeah, for the "serious" macro photographer, it's hard to beat the 80mm if you're okay with the price.

    • @Enrique-the-photographer
      @Enrique-the-photographer Před 2 lety +2

  • @schulzeerna357
    @schulzeerna357 Před 2 lety

    Nice Video as always! I was thinking about macro lens options for the Fuji-X mount system to buy, when I heard about reverse lens adapters. I got myself one and put an old 35mm f 2.8 lens on it and enjoyed it very much. I think it's a great option if you're on an even smaller budget (cost me 10€ for the adapter and I had the lens lying around anyways) and if you're not sure if macro photography is your thing. Sure, it's a bit fiddley because you can't use the focus ring and have to focus by changing the distance of the camera to your subject, but if you don't mind that you can save a few bucks and still get some nice macro shots!

    • @swagonman
      @swagonman Před 2 lety

      I also started with reverse adapter ring. Had issues with most lenses, so if you found a lens where it works (focuses in middle and in corners at same time, i.e. field curvature), good for you. I ended up spending $350 on sale for the Laowa 65mm 2:1 macro, and it is so much better. I recommend saving up for one.

    • @schulzeerna357
      @schulzeerna357 Před 2 lety

      @@swagonman True, it doesn't work with all lenses, I suppose it has something to do with how the lenses inside are arranged. And you also have a very shallow focus area depending on the aperture you use (you could use focus stacking to solve this). I still think it's a great starting point for macro photography because for 10 bucks you can get still some use out of old lenses and if you really wanted you could pair it with a cheap kit lens like the xc 15-45 and have a light travel kit including macro (although I would't really recommend that cause you cant change any of the lenses parameters while on the reverse adapter, so you'd have to set everything in the normal position on the camera, disconnect it while still running and mount it in reverse with the adapter) At the moment it's enough for me, maybe at some point i'll get a dedicated macro lens but money is a little too tight right now to justify that.

  • @ziluogai761
    @ziluogai761 Před 2 lety

    Do you wanna compare it with Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2x macro (X mount)? I know they are not in the same price range. But I'm interested in those two lenses.

  • @bernard8267
    @bernard8267 Před 2 lety

    TTarisan is producing interesting law cost lenses, for dedicated photos like macro, landscape manual lenses are the solution. Unfortunately, we are missing the Exif details, there are a lot of situation where we can electronic assist mode, missing dataes remains frustrating, I guess.
    I think we are missing in the X system a range wide aperture lenses, high optical quality, manual with data transmission .I'm thinking this a huge expectation of Fuji users, by the end this will make cheapest and lighter lenses too.

  • @marizenunns2876
    @marizenunns2876 Před rokem +1

    I watched christopher frosts review of this lens and he said it was fantastically razor sharp throughout the aperture range. Which leads me to conclude that TTartisan just has poor quality control in their manufacturing process. So you'll never know what you're going to get. Maybe a sharp copy or maybe not. So one will have to buy it at a retailer with a really good exchange policy.

    That lenscap is quite typical for TTArtisans. Their 50mm f/1.2 lens has the same lenscap.
    Fortunately, you can buy no-name replacement lenscaps that clip on and they'll work too. :-D
    For professional quality images, also consider the all-manual Laowa 65mm macro lens which is half the priceof the Fuji lens but delivers 2x magnification, and superbly sharp images.

      For sure the 18-55mm is an option, and with the MCEX-16 it can achieve 0.97x magnification! However to achieve that the lens is only 4mm away from the subject. Zoomed in it achieves 0.47x at a much more reasonable 63mm to the front of the lens. My compromise (because the 80mm Fuji is too costly) is to use the 60mm with the MCEX-16. 0.76x magnification, 143mm from the subject (mustn't scare the spiders) and superb Fujifilm optics.
