Excellent explanation, besides that I used my humble scanner and I was able to check: cylinder misfire (6) ok , O2 sensor (4) ok , catalytic 2 ok, catalytic 1 HIGH , max value 3000, reading 3239 , code P0420 , I’m going to try cleaning first before replacing it. Vehicle mileage 140k , my wife bought it brand new this’s the first problem in this vehicle, ‘13 Acura RDX

awesome video! My 2007 acura tl is smoking from the forward portion of the catalytic converter that connects to the exhaust. could is possible be clogged, maybe an o-ring breaking down ?

My 2014 Ford Mustang v6 3.7 is quiet and does not seem to have the listed rating of 305 HP. I am wondering if it can be the catalytic converters. The car drives so quiet. Any ideas? No codes at all. Is there an additive to put in the gas? Thank you.
2006 rav4 153k miles with lots of short distance trips, recently got P2195 (O2 Sensor Signal Stuck Lean /Bank 1 Sensor 1), after replacing both O2 sensors, maf sensor, spark plugs, fuel injectors, problem still exists, now getting code p0420 catalytic converter low efficiency and p0172 system run rich. Car vibration at stop sign and rotten egg smell detected. Fuel line checked ok, fuel pressure tested within spec, no vacuum leak, no exhaust leak. Is it time for a catalytic converter replacement?

my 95 camaro has hesitation after the engine gets warm and then its like i have power loss, i dont have a check engine light nor do i have the smell or over heating. this is on a 3.8 v6 but i suspect its the catalytic converter even though its only 3.5 yrs old because i had a cracked head last year and i had it replaced. what do you think?
My G37 sedan had a code p1421 . I've purchased high flow cats from kinetic right after . my check engine light stayed on. It reads as follows. p1421. These cats were brand new but after a while I noticed some rattle when I cold start. It sounded off. Then emissions came around and I still don't know what it could be. The forums say to purchase the cell fix for high flow cats and test pipes. plus, a tune could help. oem cats are way too expensive when it restricts power. The forums also said do not use the cells fix if your cats are bad. I do have a sluggish engine. my mileage is lower than when I purchased the car. I used to have 22.8 mpg now I get like 11.5. car sounds good but I waste gas and I find myself buying more every three days. should i buy the oem cats? should i try the cell or should i just get a new high flow cat and then put the cell on it before the o2
My honda is a 2013 v6 with 185k miles i only get map sensor code and i have replace everything car still no power. Check for ground and now am thinking cat what do u think.?
I will be replacing head gasket, O-Ring seals under rocker-arm carriage and catalytic converter on a 1989 Honda Civic. Replaced the oxygen sensor, but that did not improve the problem. Have had some issues with anti-freeze going through the exhaust, so at 146,000 miles on the car, it's time to invest some money and labor into the car.
Sounds like you have a cracked or blown gasket
@@soniarican6275, Took me around 6 hours to get all of the old gasket material off of the upper block. Tedious job. Things are moving along and hope that the car is up and running before mid-October. Kind of a bummer having 1 car when that car is down.

I’m having this issue with my 2013 kia soul base, bank 1.. front converter. I have around 92k miles on it. I get the code, but from time to time it goes away then comes back then goes away again. I went to Firestone and got a quote for 1850. Replacement 😢. Should I go with them or a discount muffler?.

I have been dealing with a bad o2 sensor for about 6 months bank 1 sensor 1
It has been replaced 4 times with the code P0133, and no local shop has been able to fix the issue.
The code says a slow response from the o2 sensor.
Is the issue, because they are using cheaper aftermarket parts?
I recently joined a lancer group on face book, and some people said it could be a bad catalytic convertor.
When I drive the car and warms up, it starts to hesitate when I step on the gas peddle.
I replaced the spark plugs, and replaced the battery. It did make the code disappear-but it started doing it again.
Also, I checked out every single fuse / relay etc etc I tried using cata-clean, and the check engine soon disappeared, and then came back on a day later. Also, I do not have any fluids leaking. I properly cleaned the MAF sensor. The only issue and code that shows and is constant, is the P0133 slow response from the o2 sensor.
I also tried B-12 Chemtool and that really worked good for about 2 weeks, but then the service engine soon light came back on.
I also had an oil change, and my engine is very clean, and replaced the the air filter.
Can it be the fuel injectors?
I can't afford to keep taking this vehicle to the shop. Please reply back/Thanks!

i purchased some high flow cats last yr. and I got a code of p1421. I noticed it was sputtering on my driver side. I just checked under the car today and found out my cat has a small hole in it. I felt the hot air sputtering out of that hole. something told me it was a hole. I went to many auto shops, and they told me it was a relearn procedure that needs to be done. some said I needed to get an update on my ecu. none of that was the issue. I bought some pb weld and fixed it myself for 6 bucks. no more sputtering and the check engine light never came back on. car drives like it was supposed to . now i can get my inspection done . hooray!
What about its not losing power but you have the code? I put on a high flow cat a few year's ago on a Chevy Impala SS 04. I have 145000 miles.
check the cats . mine had a small hole in it which made that code pop up . listen to your car when you start it with a cold start . listen closely to similar sounds from the cats. if one is off tone then its most likely a small leak . my high flow cats had one and i got a code of p1421. below threshold blah blah blah. got some pb weld and fixed the hole myself for 6 bucks. now my shit purrs like a kitten/.

The mechanic said my catalytic is ok. But! I just replaced 4 o2 sensors, purge valve, ecm, gas cap, Then i got bank 1 and 2 low voltage. Yet theyre new o2 sensors. And now …. P0042 popped up.

My dad drives a 2005 toyota previa and the gas cuts off after 2500 rpms it shows check engine light but when checked with mechanics they say it doesnt show any code and tht just weird but what u mentioned in the video tht the car faces problem at signals and loss of power on up hill roads tht happens with me but there is no rotten egg smell or anything im confused as hell help

2010 Ford Escape 3.0 6-cyl 221k miles: P0420 but for over the past 1000 miles, at high load and high rpm, very loud "swooshing" jet engine thrust like sound coming out tailpipe with proportional loss of power. I suspect cat has broken up and plugged up the downstream muffler.
Ultrasonic cleaner may clean the cat - but it may disintegrate the honeycomb too.
Curious if anyone has any suggestions about my p0420 code (low efficiency, bank 1). I bought a 2016 Encore, base model with 100k miles on it. I just changed the cat and both o2 censors but the light came back on about 60 miles after the change. Before it came back on I heard a odd humming sound and it felt like it was running a little rough while driving for a few seconds. After letting it cool down I turned the car back on and sprayed the immediate area before and after the cat with soapy water to see if there was a leak but didn't find anything. Any idea what it could be? Thanks.

My 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0 turbo with only 38k is struggling going uphill. The car is extremely smooth. I checked the fuel pump and replaced the fuel filter although they were clean and fine. I remember two years ago I cleaned the catalytic converter with a cleaning spray product that indeed unclogged it. I was on a trip 3 days ago and found out that the car loses power uphill. I believe it's due to my driving habit. I drive only 5 to 10 miles a day and the car sits all day. No check engine light. Any help is appreciated.
Did you get it fixed? I doubt it was the cat.

I have a Traverse 2012, Mileage 212000 with original Engine and transmission. Facing issues with bad mileage and less acceleration. The vehicle struggled on hill climbs and overheated. I already replaced the spark plugs, fuel injector, and throttle body cleaned but, the same issue. Is it a catalatic convertor issue or something else?. your expert opinion is required.

That's a misfire code. Try spark plugs first. Ignition coils second if the code remains.

I bought a used pickup from the dealership and they told me that it will pass smog inspection but it failed because they catalytic converter was removed by the last owner and I'm stuck making payments on a vehicle I can't drive on the road
I have a 2018 Toyota Rav 4' I haven't had it a year yet and it has about 60 thousand miles on it. The catalytic converter was changed by a Toyota dealer since I purchased (that's what they told me). My check engine light came on 2 days ago and the same dealer said the upper catalytic converter was messed up now and it will cost $2500 to repair. Is that true?.
It could be an exhaust leak near the sensor or anywhere upstream of the sensor, so I wouldn't just let them throw high dollar parts at it unless you are very wealthy.

Hey friend, i had this issues where the car boggs down when taking off and i get a loud humm, with no leaks, recently the like came one with the p0420. I ran the car like this for a while and just got a misfire that almost left me stranded. Im sure now my cats need replacement.

Hey I had the code 40420 show up a couple of days ago and than the check engine light was gone two days later, the next day the p0304 code came on while driving and check engine light was flashing and car seemed like it didn't want to accelerate, cut the car off went to clock in came came back drove around the parking lot with no problem, what could it be

Just came from the dealership they said my Cadillac converter is bad. Something with the wire harness and upstream downstream O2 sensors. I changed the upstream O2 sensor already now I need to change both of my Cadillac converters.

Check the air intake manifold by the engine, I had a crack in a 10$ plastic tube on the intake connected to the engine and it made my car have low power until it started stalling

Some of what you said is correct but you are mixing issues the catalytic had to be very hot to function correctly and you did not say anything about exhaust leaks /bad o2 sensors codes p0420 and p0430 need to recheck after making sure no exhaust leaks no misfire no lean or rich fuel system the test should bone at cruise speed of 55 mph and look at the rear o2 sensor switch pattern it should switch slow between rich and lean, rotten egg smell can be caused by rich fuel system and hard acceleration so it does not mean bad catalytic converter, rich /lean/misfire or any other conditions will set DTC and they should be check and repaired before testing or even replacing the CATs.

all the causes have separate error codes. if only p0420, how to find the cause is difficult. but, without knowing the cause, just replacing converter is meaningless.
