What I really like about this aria is that there are many different ways to sing it and still do it justice. Different interpretations is what makes music worth listening to over and over again.

Breathtakingly beautiful. My favorite tenor since the great Corelli, who I saw in many operas. I get the same thrill from Juan Diego's exquisite singing, not to mention his spectacular fioratura.

por favor los que no saben de tessitura, timbre, color, fiato, sttacato, trinos...etc abstenganse de hablar, y menos mal de una voz unica y rara, verdadero tenor ligero, y sin duda el mejor del mundo.

The composer may indicate appropriate tempo and certain dynamics, but it is definitely up to the artist to make the piece his own, yet remaining respectful to the composer. I agree with you about Tito, he (as well as Gigli and Gedda) sing this with passion, beauty and elegance that is unparalleled, in my opinion.

Absolutely fantastic! Of all the hundreds of versions 'out there' this must surely be one of the best, with beautiful tone, shapely phrasing, intelligent use of dynamics and a genuinely heartfelt rendering, None of the exaggerations chez Caruso, for example.
No, Pavorotti sings it better in my opinion!
SmethiousReborn I don't disagree with you, and if you read my earlier comment carefully, you'll see that I was referring to Florez being "one of the best". Indeed I agree with you that as far as timbre of voice is concerned, Pavarotti's was perhaps the finest of all time. But aren't we lucky to have the luxury of such a vast range of excellences! Unfortunate (and limiting) to have to live with "only the best" - which is a purely subjective matter anyway.
Pavarotti is of course one of the best but looking at his face is painful, absolutely lack of emotions. That iron cast face made me to only listen to him and never watch him.

Here's a tenor that sings like its a walk in the park,and its so effortless he smiles and looks to be enjoying it,and he doesn't put on the old stereotypical opera voice which makes him more popular with non-opera aficionados.This guy is the tenor of the moment,and not up himself like the irritating Ronaldo!

La version mas reciente de esta melodia, cantada en Parma 2007, que la encuentran en esta misma pagina, es mucho mejor y se nota la madurez que va alcanzando Juan Diego.

I knew you would like him. The command of his voice in the lighter repertoire (he isn't really a Puccini singer RIGHT now, he should wait a while before taking on the heavier repertoire) reminds me a lot of Kraus' technical command and brilliance. Certainly a voice to watch out for!

Even though I don't like lyric tenors as much as spintos, I don't think that there is anyone who sings this song better than Florez. Other examples of tenors owning songs are Domingo with "No puede ser"; Pavarotti with "Nessun Dorma"; For me Corelli owns "E lucevan le stelle". But Florez owns this one.

Ho ascoltato questa versione subito dopo aver ascoltato quella di Pavarotti. Pavoarotti ha una voce più potente, più carismatica, più dominante. Ma Juan Diego ha una tecnica sopraffina e in arie come queste, dove la potenza è secondaria, non è secondo a nessuno
Ascolto Caruso e poi ascolto questo ragazzo qui...due mondi diversi mi spiace..........però ha coraggio dai....voto?5

An absolutely gorgeous rendition of La Furtiva Lagrima sung by an equally gorgeous Juan Diego Florez, an excellent lyric tenor. Go compare him with Vittorio Grigolo and tell me if you like one better than the other or equally. Saw him on the stage of the Met several times.
On a soul level, I think, Vittorio has a slight edge, being an Italian, singing in his mother tongue, without taking anything for Juan Diego.

@puxex prestando la atencion debida a la letra, al guion y a la musica, esta romanza esta marcada por una estructura melancoliica compuesta en la tonalidad de Si bemol menor concluyendo en sus dos partes en las tonalidades de Fa mayor y de Si bemol mayor que es solamente ahi donde se representa el jubilo.

Pardon me for being such a non expert about tenors' voices. Whether he is the lyric or light (leggere) tenor, Juan Diego had sung both roles in concerts beautifully. He is not a spinto, robusto or a heldentenor but I just like his singing without going into the technical details. But I will note your comment not that it would change my mind about Juan Diego Florez and his beautiful voice. All tenors crossed over to other tenor voices if they can do it,same with sopranos and mezzo sopranos.

He is good but the Turkish Tenor Bulent Bezduz trully amazing in that aria. . Also he sings Donizetti's unknown operas Belisario. Incredible performance...

he can do pop music just great, but he is no Pavarotti. Florez can be as good as Pavarotti with time but why compare them? Why not enjoy the the pleasure they bring to our lives and be grateful.

Claro que si BOLDENONA, no tiene nada de especial, salvo que Pavarotti lo consideró como su sucesor, pese a tener repertorios diferentes, Plácido Domingo lo considera el más grande tenor ligero de todos los tiempos, dijo "No me acuerdo de otro que haya cantado así ese repertorio tan difícil que él interpreta"...
