The relationship with the Spartans and the ai is so interesting. Spartans are people built to be like a machine. And the ai are machines built to be like a person. Fused into one being through the armor

Eric Nylund, who wrote the first few Halo novels and most of the background lore, had an educational background in chemistry and physics, which is why much of the tech in the Bungie-era Halo games had such technical explanations for how they worked.
I think Master Chief mentioned once that after the event of Halo 4 he struggled to operate without cortana because he didn't need to ask for something, cortana was already doing what he wanted, they basically become one and Cortana saved directly master Chief life few times, back in installation 04 a Flood infector made his way throught the armour almost reached John's skin, Cortana overdrive the energy system to fry it
If you read the first 2 or 3 books of Halo, you can learn a lot about the Spartans and their trainings with and without the Armor. There is also a lot to learn about Master Chief and Cortana's relations in the second (?) book. I just recently discovered that there are more than only 3 Halo Books and I plan on reading them all soon.
Without cortana.. MasterChief will feel depressed...its a loss of something deep

I never considered how connected Cortana and John were trough the neural interface. It makes losing her more significant. She wasn't just a voice in his head, she was a part of him like a long time partner.
Crazy part is canonically, master chief only consciously knew her for just over half a year when you take into account all his cryo sleep!

Don't forget part of the reason that the AI was given to spartans is to help them interface with humanity better. The spartan program kidnap and then brainwash children into being machines and since they behaved like machines they felt no attachment to humanity or the repercussions to the actions they take that may kill many humans as long as the goals they were given are achieved. The AI was there to guide them into being better humans once again (as well as other tasks that an AI can perform). Think of all the times Cortana chided John about his actions or the repercussion they may have.
Even the mighty master chief had a nagging "wife" constantly in his head.

God, the amount of detail and effort that went into this video, the capabilities of each gen of armor, the time they were in service, the time the next gen of armor began production, everything.. down to the smallest details, amazing work, truly.

This actually deserves more attention like holy crap. Not to talk down on them, but this video was actually more detailed than a lot of the top Halo content creators' videos. Very informative and relaxing to watch
Feels like I'm a 26th century student studying for a military history exam or sumthin, that's how good these videos are cuz I feel oddly immersed for some reason while watching this!
Your videos always have such a high level of quality production, intricate depth of the Halo extended lore, and attention to detail that it's genuinely sad that they aren't seen enough by the Halo community. I loved how you covered how armor has Evolved to Combat different stages of weaponry throughout history with the pros, cons, and compromises. The custom animations were also a great addition.
When I saw the title, I was really hoping to see some footage or reference to The Prototype from Halo Legends, with it being a massive exoskeleton like the Mark I and II, but didn't need to be tethered and had a plethora of powerful offensive and defensive capabilities. Would have also loved to hear you describe some of the awesome features of the early models in addition to the downsides like extreme power consumption or cost but your video was already a mountain of information at half an hour long and I genuinely loved every minute of it! Even got goosebumps a few times from how cool everything was. I'm gonna go refresh my lore knowledge from your past videos. Amazing job as always!!! :D
A another reason I love halo is the believable science. It's really science fiction instead of fiction that has a bit of science. The TV show has dump all this down the drain. Just one thing. I believe the Bioform injector was already there for Mark 5 armor as I'm pretty sure I read it being used in Fall of reach, The flood or The first strike. Not sure which book exactly

I think what you meant was 'scientific' part, rather than science. In my understanding, the word 'science' means both the struggle to find knowledge and the knowledge itself, so it can be something like our own limited understanding of our world laws of physics or it can be someone's understanding of their own universe laws of physics (or the lack thereof) like things such as the commonly known/named as magic, psychic power etc.
If we get to be more technical, even the power-system/magic-system in some fiction like 'Mother of Learning' that have their own well-defined parts of said power system is "methodologically" correct within their own universe and thereof 'scientific' in their own way. What I understand from your writing, what you want is actually 'our-world-physics's-scientifically-correct', and not just some mumbo jumbo regarding unobtainium and Shakespearean-influenced story plots which are prevalent in science fantasy. An easy example of the comparison between Sci-Fi and Sci-Fan are the movies Star Trek and Star Wars.
It seems that you're the kind of guy who likes weaponries and wars like in the irl history of world wars and in fictions such as fallout. Got many friends like you, who sadly I'm not in contact again after the pandemic. Hope that you'll find more sci-fi works that you'll like and I'm sorry for my rambling lmao. Stay safe and healthy.
@@user-xq6ii6qk5s Yeah you are right about that. Like you mentioned Marvel and DC don't sit well with me. But I do watch their movies. I just think of them as fantasy. But I'm a fantasy fan too. It just I want a believable system even within those fantasy settings. It doesn't have to exactly as ours but I like it that when fantasy worlds have rules and systems that sets limits and enables creative opportunities. Hopefully we will see more creative sci fi work in future.

There is a fine art to "plausible" science fiction. Yes, Halo is one of the better ones. Star Trek is probably the model for that form of writing.
Others not so much. Science fiction CAN be a good test bed for actual science. It's a pre-hypothesis stage, where thinkers can experiment with new ideas to explore what realms of science we should develop further. Without the rigid 'peer review' of actual science.
It's the planning stage of science.
Always intrigued me how weak a human soldier is and how a super suit absolutely turns around how a soldier would fight, halo armour has always been a fascination, excellent video

Call a recon marine, army ranger or navy seal weak and see what happens lmao. Have you seen a soldier use a “super suit” in the field?? So how would you know their tactics irl? Someone in a super suit would not be a frontline soldier, they would need regular infantry support same as a tank… as we’ve seen what happens to armor without support in Ukraine. Maybe in 2552 a powered armor suit will be available 😂

At first I was like, oh great another Halo video going over basic stuff, but as it went on, your style where it was more like a documentary of the development of the armor. As you went onto each layer without making it too complicated, I kept watching. Honestly one of the top put together Halo video I have seen in a long time. Thank you for actually caring about the topic and making it easy for newer fans to understand. Subbed and going to go back and watch other Halo videos and cant wait for more to come out if they are planned!

Never seen your channel before but this is an absolutely awesome video.
The writers of halo seemingly went to great lengths and effort to make things reasonably possible with the current rate of technology advancement. Of course they did drop the ball on the piezoelectric crystal thing. Humans have known for a very long time that piezoelectric crystals both produce energy when deformed and deformed when energy is applied to them. In fact pretty much every single automotive direct fuel injected gas and Diesel engine use piezoelectric injectors.
What's new here is probably the level of strain this new piezo material goes through when subject to voltage. Having a material strain by 10% or more without yielding is quite a feat to pull off, which is why you don't see it used in any large-scale robotics application

The MARK IV is my favorite iteration of the MJOLNIR armor.
It looks pretty and comfortable, but at the same time heavy and intimidating, plus it doesn't have that ridiculous amount of colors and accessories. It doesn't look like a robot like the armors in Halo 4 and 5, but it's also not as unnecessarily minimalist as the one in Halo 2 and 3.
Are you talking about Chief's armor in CE? Because that is Mk 5

Real life militaries actually want suits like spartan armor problem is the same the energy production and storage the damn batteries are way behind the tech level needed and lets not forget we can't even get fission reactors that snall yet let alone positive output fusion reactors which we still haven't figured it out

pretty much, modern tech already supports making something like the mk1 or 2 and close to 3, but the power supply issues those variants suffer also affect any such irl designs

This feels like a legit history channel episode
Chainmail would protect you from cuts; padded armore was worn under it, but you would still be injurred from blunt force trauma. You can't slice through chainmail.
Highly dependant upon the quality of chainmail.
@@chrispellegrin People didn't wear gambison and chainmail because it kinda worked; I think chainmail being sliced open would have been quite rare. It would either be the result of poor craftsmanship (nobody would want to buy their mail), or it being hit a lot without maintenance.
@@jonathanbetenbender307 Yeah no slicing of chain mail but it was very weak against thrusts, and spears were the main weapon of war, swords were more of a secondary weapon for the rich. That's what made plate armor so terrifying to go against, you were most likely a peasant with a spear going against a guy you can't really poke with your weapon. As for sword fights the stuff depicted in media is pure fantasy, sword fight were short, a sword fight between 2 unarmored opponents would usually end in a few seconds after a feint or two and maybe a parry. Combat between 2 armored opponents was basically a wrestling match, the idea is to tackle the other guy to the ground so gaps in his armor are easier to exploit, then using a dagger to poke at the joints etc. There is quite a few videos on youtube of what realistic medieval plate armor sword fights looked like.

The armor he switches to in halo 2 is the Mark 6 . It's also noted that Spartan 2 Naomi-010 was issued GEN1 Mark VII so the suit mentioned was actually built. It was expensive. And Spartan 4s where incapable of using it hence the gen 2 armor. Chief currently uses the Gen 3 version which Is a hybrid of technology from both generations and some improvements.

After reading the Reach data pads it's clear to me that the AI Assembly influenced humanity or Halsey somehow to equip Spartans to be as overkill as they are for human standards cause they saw hostile first contact with aliens to be an inevitability and wanted to make sure that humanity was as prepared as it could be.
Speaking of smart AI, this makes me wonder if the forerunners used the same process Halsey did creating Cortana to create the Contender Class AI.
I have been a massive Halo fan for years. In the last 2-3 years especially I have dived deep into Halo lore reading many books (multiple times) as well as the Halo Encyclopedia and reading the Halopedia to death.
You're ability to condense it down to an entertaining, informative, and encompassing video is incredible. I greatly enjoyed watching this video and hearing it all again. Thank you.

just a little correction: kevlar doesnt counter high powered bullets (since we talking about military weapons and protection), it counters shrapnel.
Kevlar+ceramic or metallic plating stops high powered bullets, and only up to a certain caliber!
Actually there are soft Kevlar armors that can stop rifle rounds

You can make rifle-rated flexible armor even without shear thickening fluid, for example Safe Life Defense Flexible Rifle Armor System by employing smart design and better commercially available material.
Basic rule of creating really good ballistic armour is stacking many layer of 2 types of alternating materials that's optimized for 2 different purposes (akin to bullet resistant window), one high hardness material to break apart the kinetic penetrator and one high tensile, compressive and shear strength material to act as crumple zone to absorb kinetic energy of (hopefully) fragmented kinetic penetrator.
