humphries impact on this game often overlooked... I still remember the thrill of seeing an irish team finally justify their talent, after a decade of woe
Ah yes, the birth of Ireland's golden generation, Scotland looked on course to continue the Indian sign they held over Ireland in the first half then the floodgates just opened in the second half, Irish rugby would never be the same again
+Frank Coll That's right, the 90's were a barren era for the Irish, aside from a bizarre winning streak away from home against Wales and a couple of one-off wins against England, their record was abysmal, 12 years without beating Scotland and about 17 years without beating France. This game marked the beginning of a whole new era
+Harr123 Correct, the week before this game Ireland got hammered 50-18 by England and we thought, here we go again, but Warren Gatland at that stage had had enough and kicked nine players off the team. Maybe that hammering was the wake up call Irish Rugby needed.
+ephabouyed After that opening hammering, plus the opening quarter of this game you should add, it must have felt that Irish rugby had no hope ever, the bleak 90's had culminated in an early elimination from the World Cup by Argentina in Lens, and the signs had suggested that things weren't going to improve. Then all of a sudden, things just started to go right, Ireland not only ended the Scottish jinx, they slaughtered it, then they never looked back, quite incredible.
Although this team had flaws and didn't go great in 2003 or 07 they did make the way for the future team of now which is far superior and probably stuff of dreams for these Irish players back then. Don't forget before this game Ireland hadn't beat Scotland since I think 1988 roughly. So this changed Irish rugby that and the Brian O Driscoll 3 tries against France
Great to hear Bill McLaren once again. The greatest rugby commentator

+Harr123 In stark contrast to Ireland's Bogey decade the 90s.
