  • The journey to 'Finding God's Heart' continues with week 4. This week we learn in great detail about David's well known victory over Goliath along with some virtues that help us recognize that God is working.
After watching this sermon we encourage you all to reflect (self or with your brother/sisters in Christ) using the questions below.
    1. Where do you think insecurities stem from? (If you want to get more intimate talk about your own insecurities) How can insecurities be detrimental to your spiritual life and what tangible steps can you take to not let your insecurities get the best of you?
    2. In the sermon, Dn. Abel said that “What we say about others is actually a reflection of us.” Do you agree with this statement? Could this understanding help us gossip less?
    3. Saint Paul in the book of Romans says “For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.” David showed mastery over his flesh in the way he handled people's insults and abuse with patience and love.
    - How can we gain mastery over our flesh in a time where everything in society caters to our flesh?
(Access to internet, social media, phones, Uber eats, working from home, etc.(
    4. Are you easily able to identify when God is working in your life? Or do you often find yourself feeling like God isn't listening to your prayers?
    5. What is the “Goliath” in your life? How can you slay it?
    6. Share a moment in your life where God blessed or delivered you in a way that defied your logic.
Has this strengthened your faith in Him? Or do you still find yourself leaning on your own logic?
    Why?
    7. Go around and share what stands out to you from the following quote:
“Trust that God sees you. He hears you and feels for you, so your little matters are very big before his love, and your big matters are very small before his might." (Saint Pope Kyrillos)
This sermon is taught by our brother, Dn. Abel, during Saint Paul Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo (SPOT) Church's Sunday Service.
