If your flight path takes you over HK's Victoria Harbour on a clear day or night, the view is downright breathtaking. The saddest part is when you look down before you land in any airport in the Philippines, the contrast is so dramatic. It feels like you had gone back a hundred years in time in terms of economic development. Makes you weep for the Philippines.
You are totally amazing you put tons of very informative information in a short video. Again thanks you so much.
Really a great review of Hong Kong airport. I've flown through there twice but was lucky enough to only have to spend a few hours there. I've been flying to Thailand since 2002 so I've flown on most of the asian airlines and I agree that Incheon is the best place for a longer layover. Oh, I've eaten at the same Korean restaurant (Incheon airport) twice had the same meal both time, oh man was it good and it was slightly under 8 dollars. I now mostly fly with Eva airlines so fly into Taipei .
I really liked Korean air but I had a bad experience when checking my bags at Bangkok airport, just two carry ons and my golf clubs. So, I don't use Korean air, period. As far as the flying experience, I think they are top notch. I also think they may have the best airline food next to Japan airlines.
Thanks for a very comprehensive review.
Jon
OMG! I was there 4 months ago and it's my 2nd time layover in HKG airport. I went to popeye's chicken and when the cashier told me the total my jaw dropped to the floor. 2 pcs of chicken a leg and a wing with small drink for $19.00 dollars. I told her that in the US that meal will only cost you $3.99. what a ripped off!
Another great informative video Henry. I always like to have those 2-3 prung power adapters in my carry on for those type of situations. I'll be stopping by in Taipei this February for my connecting flight to the PI. I'll try my best to share my experience there as well and detailed as yours. Take care.
thanks for showing the relaxation corner. I did a secret staff canteen video at singapore, so this hong kong one looks great and i walked up and down all the time in hk but thought i found everything
Well thanks for all of that Henry and after watching both vids I'm certaily in no hurry to layover in Hong Kong, nothing beats Incheon. Thanks again.
Great information Henry, my regards to both you and Lynn.
+Chris Allen thanks. :)
Very informative thank you. Your video regarding Inchon airport helped me when I traveled through there the first time. I used the free showers. This video is informative as well , and actually has pretty much convinced me to continue traveling through Inchon. Thanks
Great video, great info, as well Thanks
I'd propably go to the pay-in lounge with the shower and the little buffet as you showed for approx. USD 28-30.-. I am sure they have lots of power outlets as well. imo not a bad deal to kill a few hours.
McDonald's is upstairs at the food court area. I took the escalator up and saw the food court area. Lots of people on line but I didn't eat there.
Thank you Ricky for The much-needed travel tips in Hong Kong international airport
+Blind Eye View of the Philippines Will Martin glad to be of some help. :)
Hi Henry. Thanks for making this video. I hope someone from HK a/p management get to see it. I am sure it would be a wake up call to them. :)
Excellent review of Hong Kong International. Would have to agree with you that Korea ( Incheon ) is a much better option for lay over. Nice find with the relaxation center. Love seeing and exploring airports. Been to many airports myself. Nice to see an informative review.
Good info Henry...
The power outlets are british 3 pin types so you should be able to get a 2 pin US type converter. I always ues Hong Kong on route from UK to Philippines, but i have always been lucky that i never have to spend much time there, i say that because it is so expensive there, i remember one time i grabbed a coffee and it was almost 10 pounds.
Another thing i have noticed is that although they say things are duty free in airports that does not make them cheap, you will find that perfumes and electronics and also alot of alcohol can be found cheaper at home in most department stores, so my advice would dont get carried away thinking you getting a bargin.
I have flown through HKIA many times and loved it but after watching this video I think I will give Inchon a try instead.
Good video. It did look very clean there. Did you ever find a razor ?
+Bonzo T Alonzo no, just lots of chocolate and perfume. i didn't get a razor until i got to cebu and went to a supermarket. :)
I like hong kong airport, but like you said henry study the layout if you have a 90 min changeover, you need to know which way to go, and move quick, those isles are never ending, great vid .
I don't know if others have already mentioned it but there is an automated people mover that takes you one end to the other end of the very long concourse (Gates 1 - 36). So it takes you from the central food court where McDonald's is located to the intersection of Gates 40-80. I am not sure how to get on the people mover since I've only taken it arriving to Hong Kong and as far as I can remember I never really took it when departing from Hong Kong, although last time my departure gates was 34. You can see the people mover on at the bottom of the map which you've shown in Part 1 at the 1:51 mark. And aside of that, I thank you REALLY much for this useful video, I miss East Asia's airport so much because they are just top-notch and it reminds me of home when I see the familiar interiors. I really hope, if you get the chance to connect in Incheon again to make a newer video of the airport. Thank you for your work!
Hello. Can you confirm which gate we would find the relaxation corner. Much appreciated. Great and useful video by the way.
Cafe de Coral was our favorite eating place when we visited Hongkong. They have outlets everywhere, good variety of food, and the prices were okay.
+Nolsp Yes, you can have a hot meal and a drink for about USD10 at Café de Coral and McDonald's.
You sure know how to chill during layovers
+edwinodus have you been to the philippines, if so, i think i met you in HK
For 11 Hour layover, I would go outside to Kowloon or even HK Island.
Food in the night markets is MUCH less expensive.
And HK is such an interesting city. No matter what time of day/night.
Yes 26 $ for a shower is way to much even though it's good to keep clean and refreshed some airports have neat little capsules for couple even big enough for two adults and one child with tv laptop alarm etc payable in us$ I think With a 11 half stop over I would pay for a room in airport hotel make booking with Cathy pacfic And any delays or you wernt woken by staff of hotel the onus is on airline hope this helps😕
Nice guy. Thank you
great job,so you flew cathay on this trip?
Hi,, are you allowed to leave the airport and do a quick tour of H/K during a long layover such as the one you had, or will the authorities not allow you to leave the airport without some kind of visitor visa?
Any advise most welcome :)
+Video Veiwer yes, you can leave the terminal. i arrived at 8pm so i had no interest in roaming around in a city i didn't know after midnight. so i stayed in the terminal.
Thank You Henry will be there on the 16th...but only 1hr 20min layover.... just enough to get to the next gate
+UsaForever wow, 20 minutes! you'll have to hit the ground running. :)
Honestly I almost always pass thru HK airport. Many of those places that were closed have good meals for $5-$6 easy. And as far as the gates are concerned there is a train that runs form the lower numbered gates to the higher ones. You don't have to run to anything. :)
In 2007 my breakfast 2eggs 2 bacon toast coffee was $19.00 in same airport 9yrs. Back... Only Subway (both the ICN & NGO airports) are priced about what USA airport rates.
Back in April I went to the McDonalds at the food court and got the Big mac, fries and drink for about $5.50 U.S on my debit card!
hi henry First time flying to Philliipines. I coming to HK airport for layover 1 hour 20 mintes. I should have enough time to get around. Where to go there for help there if I have difficulties finding my way around ?
+1957evinrude there are lots of blue poles with directions to each gate. and there is also a Help Desk to be found on any of the terminal maps posted. it's only 3 long hallways so it's fairly easy to navigate.
Hello Henry, thank you very much for a very interesting two videos. I am travelling to Cebu in the middle of April, from their I will travel to Bacolod to visit a family I got to know in 2013. I cant wait, I am very excited. I am also going to have a 9 hour layover, I will just have to find something to keep myself busy for that time. Also can you please advise me to how to go about to travelling to Bacolod, in other words where can I book my travel route and fee in Cebu? Thank you very much in advance. Kind regards Johan.
my suggestion would be to get an adaptor for the tri-prong outlet they use all over the airport there. there were no 2-prong ones i could find, and i searched for hours. with the adaptor you could plug-in your laptop and kill some time online. however the internet in china is censored so i would highly, highly suggest you get a VPN service (usually about $8/month). this will also help to keep your passwords secure when logging into your social media or email.
here is an article on some of the major VPN services which will encrypt and open up your net access in china/hk...
www.pcadvisor.co.uk/test-centre/internet/free-vpn-best-free-vpn-services-2017-uk-3613860/
Hello Henry, thank you very much!
Some closer to gate were you sit there you can charge your cell
Hey Ricky do you have videos of processing though the airport with custom in immigration after your rived in the Philippines thank you / Will Martin
+Blind Eye View of the Philippines Will Martin no use of cameras are allowed in the x-ray areas where they process you for security. so no footage from there.
Hi can you use British currency in Hong Kong air port great video thanks for the in sight
the HK air port is priced the same as O'Hare chicago air port. the chargers built into the seats that you do find, most dont work even if you have the right adapter. i like the 12 hour lay overs in HK i am a professional HK air port walking zombie at 3 a,m, ooh dont get to worried if you dont see your flight, they only post flight gates and times 3 hours before the plane is to take off on average, oooh at the HK air port, the little shops that offer free wifi if you purchase some thing, its a total rip off. the air port has free wifi, you just open your browser and then agree to terms use.
26 bucks for candy. should come with a lapdance lol
was just there dec 30th, wow vacations go fast, was in the Phils 32 days, now back in the cold north east usa, 1 other non related comment...lots of hate with some people watching youtube expat vids, I feel if they don't like it don't watch them.....and i paid 68$ for ham n cheese sandwich in hk (hk currency)
+Jeffcarmen Manila at the end of the day, those of us enjoying life have the better end of the deal. :) it must suck to for those people to be so full of hate on a daily basis. meanwhile, lyn and i just finished an evening walk on the boardwalk with some ice cream cones. the end of another great day. hopefully you'll be flying back out to the PH soon! weather is always warm. :)
Thanks for all step by step information on this airport, very helpful.
This is gonna be a silly question but does the Mcdonalds there taste the same as here in USA? I'm sorry i always wonder that hehe.
+CS77 Smith i never ate at McDo's much in the states. but from what i can tell, no big difference. although here you have the option of rice with lots of the meals.
I see it all taste the same, thanks man your the best...
One more question. I just got done watching your video called ==> (3of3) Duma to Calif: Incheon Airport to Los Angeles.
My question is, What Airlines website did you book your flight on when you where in South Korea heading to LAX?
Reason i ask is because before i go to Philippines, I first be heading to Bangkok, Thailand from LAX & i want my layover to be in Incheon, not hong kong.
+CS77 Smith i fly via korean air, which always does layover in incheon.
Oh ok thanks man, your the best.
Been to HK..GREAT AIRPORT
will be going to the Philippines in a few weeks on Cathay Pacific coming from Canada. Is it true that Cathay Pacific offers a 75 HK dollar meal voucher to all connecting flight in HK? It really looks like a nice airport and my layover is 3 hours
if they do, i've not heard about it. it could have been part of the benefits for someone's VIP membership. maybe someone else here knows something about it.
The last time I visited their airport when was like 12 years old and now I'm planning on a solo trip and no doubt I'd get lost in this big airport. Any tips? Hahaha
can you bring jewlery into the philippines if yes will customs give me a problem
I wonder what you would think of the airport of Singapore. So I hope you will fly on Tthat airport one time.
Hi Henry....could you tell me where would I buy the cheapest throwaway ticket.
Thanks.
+Gerrygambone every time i check, cheapest ticket is from Clark Airport (PH) to Kuala Lumpur (1-way). usually less than $40. i've gotten it as low as $28 booking in advance. i get it from www.airasia.com .
+LifeBeyondTheSea - Philippines Thank you Henry, its very much appreciated.
are the rates in the airlines different prices if you have a layover in a different country in other words you pay less then flying indirect to the Philippines
+jesse Quinonez rates are kinda all over the place. use a site like www.kayak.com to compare rates. prices change based on peak times of the year for that destination, holidays, etc.
been there nice
Henry were you in Hong Kong on December 31 New Year's eve? If so you could have seen this. czcams.com/video/kWvdWH6PB8E/video.html
If you missed it they do it all again for Chinese New Year in about a month. Hong Kong is very safe for a large city and almost all the business speak english. An 11 hour layover is long enough to see a lot of the city. Hong Kong island is one of the nicest cities in the world and very well thought out. Public transportation is great and cheap you can get a 24hr subway pass for about $7. Airport Express has one day ticket that lets you return for the same price as a one way ticket about $13 to make it easy for people who have a layover at the airport and the trains leave every 12 mins and it take 20-25 mins to get all the way down town. All the food is delicious and you can eat the street food and restaurants are cheaper than a major U.S. city. If you like Dim Sum you have come to the right city but if you want to eat italian they've got that too. I really think you'd find it interesting. I think it's the best run city in the world better run than even Singapore. Check it out and you can take Lyn there too because Philippine nationals can visit for 14 days without a visa. Sorry if I rambled on.
long layover. You must get cheap flights ? It costs me 800 to 1200 Philippine airlines Big island to Honolulu, 2 hours layover then direct to Manila. 11 hours total trip. Thanks for the video. Aloha
+Scott Parnell my flight was $850 plus about $150 in taxes, etc. normally i'd fly via korean air, but i got my ticket last minute just before thanksgiving and with a return flight right after christmas. so, not a bad price considering the circumstances.
There is a MacDonalds on the Ground side, I know because twice I wasted my time there last March. Not as wise as you going and looking for the Lounge :(
+oh damn its that guy Another reason I don't want to go there again unless I have no choice, too damn expensive.
+oh damn its that guy my main beef is that i had nowhere to charge my laptop. if i could have done that i could have passed the time much easier. the net terminals they provide don't download some sites. i got so frustrated with it i walked away from it after 20 minutes.
LifeBeyondTheSea - Philippines Agreed, that airport is a pain. luckily I had an adaptor so I could charge mine. and naturally it was in use when I found it. That airport is not as convenient as it could be.
Hong Kong has always been dear
i didn't care much for hong kong airport, too expensive. However, I do love Cathay Pacific though.
Why didn't you go thru Inchon?
+E. Davis i booked a last minute flight for over the holidays, so flying through HK was a little cheaper.
I think, I'll skip the shower and any meal services in that airport and go to kowloon city instead..
I have a layover in Terminal 3 Manila.overnight from 6 pm to 5 am..
Never been there before BUT i bet it wont be like that!!
.
good luck lol
I am actually a bit scared...
I asked if the food outlets close during the night AND I was reassured the Jollibee and I think she said a 7/11 was open all night...
That as food is what scares me..
Jim
+Jim hammond Right across terminal 3 is Resorts World Manila - plenty of restaurants to choose from. You may have to take a cab to ferry you across and back as there is a big road construction going on in front.
Thanks..I will keep that in mind...
Real cold aircon is worth the hassel with the taxi driver..
+Jim hammond Maybe get a hotel for a little while, you be able to sleep a bit and get a shower.Try checking out Hotel SOGO,they are a no frills hotel. You can rent but the hour, not that kind of hotel lol.I had a tour of the one in Malate, pretty nice.Just Check out their website.
the Mc Donalds it on the second floor at the entrance to all the gates hard to find last time we were there it was being updated and was closed everything is to expensive there in HK airport ok you found it I see Singapore has a lot better Airport has lots sit down charging station and lots of food places as there is 3 terminal's Hk is not that good
Have you ever been through Tokyo (nrt)?
+Mc_Pyro not yet. i usually prefer to fly through Incheon, in s.korea.
Yes I went through Incheon on my last trip to Vietnam (I liked that airport) I am going back in April and none of the available flights are going to Incheon. The one to Tokyo had the shortest layover and was a little cheaper than kong kong and another place I don't remember where the third one was. Thank you for responding I will have to wait and see how it is when I get there.
I see Bruce Lee photo bombed you while on that moving sidewalk.
+Jim Simmons yep, i didn't notice that until editing time. :)
Hey Henry could you please tell us what happened there (Dumaguete Dec 26,2015) the MURDER of American Photographer PHIL PRINS????????????
+Jim z i posted the CCTV footage of the incident at my FB page (scroll down) here; facebook.com/reekayintheph/?fref=ts in a nutshell, the night of Dec 25th (christmas) Phil went out drinking alone. around 3am that night (the 26th) he got into some altercation with a filipino at the Zanzibar bar. zanzibar is not an expat bar. it's where underage, male filipinos go to get drunk. (phil's first mistake) after an argument inside the bar, the filipinos involved went outside. phil followed them outside, walked 20 feet to confront them (instead of leaving the area) and after some heated words, he got sucker-punched and fell backwards. at that point at least 3 (possible 5) filipinos kicked his head into the pavement. he died 3 days later in the hospital. a street-fight that got way out of hand. but Phil could have and should have walked away. he had full opportunity but instead chose to fight and lost. some try to make a saint out of Phil due to his charity work. that's all great. but that night, he made some very bad life-decisions and it cost him his life. very sad outcome. two employees of the Zanzibar have been arrested so far, still seeking the 3rd from what i last heard.
thankyou...i feel Duma getting more dangerous these days..I remember how a police man followed you and talked about shooting you in the head because you talked his girlfriend at Why Not bar.I noticed shady looking guys lately maybe because more foreigners going there..6 years ago a nice alternative to Cebu...now Im thinking Bacold City..Lets just hope some utuber dosen't start telling people to move there!!!!!!!!! like it or not we are targets for shady people.like MoalBohol many foreigners, and more breakins too. Happened to you as I remember.....Hope they caught the guys my friend Henry
Are you going to talk about Phils death on you tube? or is that just for painting lovely picture of Paradise?
Salamat Amigo...
+Jim z i would not say duma is any more dangerous than any time before. as i mentioned, part of what happened to Phil was due to his own bad decision making. there were 4 expats deaths (that i'm aware of) in dumaguete last year and all of them involved drinking and driving.. not violence from locals. personally i see nothing to be gained from talking about Phil's death. as it is i'm sure his family doesn't want him to become some sort of "talking point", so i chose to not cover it. i did however cover it on my FB page as a news item.
thanks much............poor guy..brought tears to my eyes...i can see he loved the phills in his photography......did you know him? I don't suppose there will be any justice????
thanks again Henery
+Jim z i never knew him. the two in custody will face trial. will just have to see with time if they are convicted.
Free wifi
lol..... 1hr 20min
