  • "The idea of the architectural manipulation. The idea of a kind of fictional archaeology. So, something that we would know and find in our present day, like a camera, that has been projected into the future almost like an archaeological object and it's a story that is told through the transformation of the material, so an object that was once metal and glass is now made in volcanic ash or in crystal or reformed itself in bronze and has a kind of aged patina about it."
This is Daniel Arsham's Life Story.
Daniel Arsham is an American contemporary artist based in New York City. His works revolve strongly around the concept of a hypothetical future time, attempting to materialise his ideas and concepts through art/cultural mediums such as architecture, archaeological sculptures, drawings and films.
Over two months, The Hour Glass has premiered a series of short films on nine of the world’s leading contemporary artists and independent watchmakers. Featuring: Maximilian Büsser (MB&F), Sir David Adjaye OBE RA (Adjaye Associates), Rexhep Rexhepi (Akrivia), Daniel Arsham, Wieki Somers (Studio Wieki Somers), Roger W. Smith, Marc Newson, Oki Sato (nendo), Felix Baumgartner & Martin Frei (URWERK). Commissioned by The Hour Glass, these portraits profile the journey of these cultural wunderkinds and document their dedication to their craft.

Hour Glass- I love this ! The order within the chaos. Design in destruction. Wow. The creative impulse is fully expressed in tangible subtle details of objects. There is a metaphysical connection between the things we look at and the sensorial peace we enjoy from careful observation. Wonderful story telling that help us connect as a community. Thank you, thank you!

Thank you immensely, we're chuffed you were able to derive the deeper meaning behind the work of Daniel Arsham. At the end of the day it really does boil down to the community and its appreciation for cultural objects. Thank you and look forward to seeing you at the premiere of our next film, on Roger W. Smith (this Wednesday).
