    I have bought this great Computer a week ago.
    If you are on a non-dark environment then every time you wish the keyboard backlight ON, you will receive a warning telling you that you can just turn in ON only in dark environment.
    (In the other hand I tried to disable Light sensor from control Panel >Sensor but it didn’t works. So the solution I have found for this issue was covering the sensor with a coin or piece of tape. Really amazing!)

    I am not a gamer or even a big computer user at home, so I can stretch a laptop for years. I've had this one in harsh environments all over the world, banged around in backpacks and luggage, and it's still going strong hardware wise. Performance wise, it's getting way too slow though. Startup is brutal and loading is lagging horribly. Hopefully a SSD is the solution. Thinkning about upgrading RAM, but 8GB seems like enough.Thanks for the video.

    Hey, I just got this laptop and installed an SSD in it because the laptop came with a SAMSUNG RECOVERY MEDIA disc. I thought it would have all the preinstalled goodies on that disc, but I was wrong. When you get your laptop, use the Samsung Recovery Solution software from your start menu to create a recovery disc. Then you will be able to do a clean install without any problems!

  • @Rocket33r

    Yea, I actually figured this out eventually. It's just the price of the Y580 is so good that I assumed the catch was the 1366x768 display, so I didn't bother to look for other versions. I have a 1080p version on the way and am gonna add a 256GB msata crucuial m4 ssd to the 750gb hdd. I really like how much easier this is to do on the Y580.

    Great Tutorial, thanks! I was really disappointed in the performance of the stock laptop. Installing a Samsung 840 Series SSD really solved all hickups and endless loading times.
    I used a soft-plastic, sharp-edged tool to gently remove the housing but still some marks are visible from where the aluminum meets the plastic on the top-front side of the laptop.
    Anyawy, The only problem left is the poor partnership of the Intel and Radeon cards, hope they solve that soon!

    I spent almost a day cleaning it in order to get the machine working without all these pre-installed software. Because in this process, sometimes uninstall some vital soft, and as
    Re-installing doesn’t works properly, the only solution is perform a complete recovery then start again with the task.

    Hi, I've had the Samsung np700g7c-s02uk for the past few years but even with 16gb it's still not fast enough for some games. If I want to increase memory does it still have to be done in pairs or could I replace one of the sticks with 16gb?

  • @ProjectPulsation
    @ProjectPulsation Před 11 lety

    Hi Alexander, i'm running with the "normal" 840 Series here.
    The Pro series have a higher writing speed (450MB/s v/s 330MB/s) but the reading speeds are the same. (540MB/Sec).
    Also, the Pro series features MLC memory chips where the normal 840 Series uses TLC memory.
    Both will work fine in your laptop. If there is a big price difference I would choose the normal 840 series as the reading speeds are the most important in regards to loading times in Windows and games.
    Good luck!

    A lot of Samsung proprietary software must be loaded to get this machine full working,
    Several features are software dependent, like for example, keyboard backlight, controlled by Fn + F9 F10, so u have to wait till complete windows + driver properly loaded, to have this feature available.

  • @LennonJCihak
    @LennonJCihak Před 12 lety

    I wouldn't recommend cloning the drive. As Paul said in this video, he's always had troubles cloning drives. He said that he likes to run a clean install of Windows. You can download legal, fresh copies of Windows and then install them that way. Then just use the product key number on the bottom of your laptop to activate it.

    FYI, while most of the hardware in this old laptop is accessible and easy enough to replace if you know what you're doing, the keyboard is not. I repeat, the keyboard cannot be replaced. It's held in place by dozens of little plastic pop rivet type things. They're not reusable.

There was no Windows 8 product key or recovery disks in my packaging and I don't want to repurchase Windows. Samsung support said the OEM product key is stamped on the chipset and that they "think" I can use Samsung Recovery to do a fresh install. They also said this upgrade would void my warranty. Yooo I have the same problem- what I recommend is that go to the taskbar and into search, and go to device manager. Go to the “batteries’ tab and you will see two devices there. Right click on both and click “uninstall”. After you uninstall them, click on “action” and click on scan for hardware changes. This will bring those devices back into device manager and your laptop should start charging. Let me know if it helped

    sorry, my bad
    i think he said it in this review (not sure because i watched a bit of it a long time ago), anyway the max it can be upgraded to is 12GB (you can upgrade one slot to 8GB giving 12GB), but the other slot is under the keyboard side, which is impossible to get to unless you're ready to open up the entire laptop, in which case you can get 16GB. ANyway 8GB is more than enough ram to run 99% of applications...

      Still my daily, bone stock since new, except for W10. It needs a new breath of life badly and I'm seriously considering this SSD upgrade. Think it's worth it or should I look to replace? Thanks for this video BTW.

      I've been shopping around to replace mine... Except that the processor on this scores more than twice as high as a 6th generation i5 which costs more than what I paid for this one.
      Say what you will, but this laptop is FASTER than many of the newer ones.

    Hello,
    Where is the BIOS battery? My battery died and every time I open my laptop the date settings are gone.

    I haven't had any issue with this one. My 15" Sandy Bridge version had those issues.

    no, it is not even 900p on a 17 inch screen... plus the brightness and the colors could be much better.

    @fuser1984 I mainly do music production and I have about 50GBs of VSTs and samples that I use. I haven't yet upgraded because I have some unanswered questions. How would I install Windows once the SSD is installed? How do I install all of the drivers and how would I move all of my software over? Redownload it? I don't want to clone the drive because Paul said in this video that he always has problems with that. If you could answer those questions, that'd be great. Thanks!

    Great video! I just ordered this laptop from best buy but it has a Geforce 630M video card :/
    Is it simple to swap out the video card or not? Thanks
