  • This aged pine was ready to fall. During our most recent storms, the base became unstable and we could see the entire tree rocking at the stump.
The root ball began to pull roots above the ground and a circle had formed around the base. It was doomed.
Considering the last one fell on my house
(see that video here: • When Trees Fall ),
we thought it best to just take this one down now.
Hate to lose any tree, but it is best to err on the side of safety.
    A horizontal totem pole anyone?
Tonk dropped it right on the mark. A job well done.

Very nicely done. Looks really casual, but you can see he knows exactly what he's doing.

We had quite a windy day Tuesday and as a result the second tree in two months is laying on my roof as I type. The tree guy is coming tomorrow to remove it and drop the remaining four spruce trees and a white pine the size of that one. I'm good with a chainsaw, but it's nice to have someone who's insured take trees down next to the house. :)

I know that feeling. Trees on houses is never a good thing.
Hope your roof isn't too badly buggered and the limbs can be removed easily.
At least you'll have plenty of firewood.

Imagine if that tree had fallen on top of his head and he wasn't wearing that hard hat! Instead of his head being crushed like a walnut, it would have been crushed like a pecan!
On a serious note, I give these guys credit as to knowing exactly where to cut to get the proper fall. I think we have all seen videos when this entire process goes south very fast!

      In full agreement.
After a good look at the stump today, I noticed that he made those first cuts EXACTLY to the center ring.
Skill, knowledge and experience are worth the money every time.

Yeah, hate to see 'em go for sure. It was a beauty.
This one was ready to topple and very top heavy so it was best to take it down.
It was dropping lower limbs like crazy and the root ball was clearly beginning to lose its grip.
In the wild it would have either toppled or been consumed in a fire, thus releasing its seed that way.
