I use biodegradable cups for sowing plants that do poorly with root disturbance. Then Ill usually peel some of the top of the cup off when transplanting but just plant the rest.
For fungus gnats use Mosquito Bits!!!!!! Make a tea using hot water, (4 TBS per gallon or so and I put it in a mesh bag) let it cool and water your plants with it. After you have controlled the larva, then bottom water so that the top soil is not damp for the fungus gnats. I also sprinkled some mosquito bits on the top of the soil for added protection. Good luck!
Orlaya( Lace Flower) is listed in Lisa Mason Ziegler‘s book Cool Flowers as winter hardy to zone 6. I’m new to hardy annuals but I would assume in that you should be able to plant them out 6-8 weeks before your last frost date. I’m trying them myself this year. I did not know they were root sensitive. Thank you for sharing that!
Sorry for the confusion! I grow orlaya as well, but the seeds I mentioned here were from Floret - Lace Flower Lacy Pink Didiscus caerulea, which is different from Orlaya grandiflora.
My scabiosa and statice (and a bunch of other cool flowers) have been outside day and night for the past week here in Minnesota (zone 4/5). It’s still a good 6 weeks before our last frost. They have been under light row cover overnight but that’s MOSTLY for wind and those dang bunnies! However, we are forecasted to have another 23° overnight, so I will be double covering them for that and crossing my fingers. But they are fine with just a frost! I say plant out!
Also in MN. My seeds are just growing. I noticed tiny second leaves about to emerge. Most of my seedlings are so stretched for light. I planned to also direct sow so indoor sowing was more of an experiment. Looks like I'll have a bumper crop of onions. Lettuce was a fail.
Just a FYI those are Fungus gnats. I am battling those myself. I am watering with neem oil mixed with water and have yellow sticky tabs that you stick into the plant. I highly suggest that you research what treatment would work best for you because they Multiply like crazy.
I definitely recommend it. I use my strictly for my garden/plants. Sharing your gardening and bouquets would make a great Instagram page. Have a wonderful flower season!
Love seeing the different growth and plant health! Your Dahlia's are amazing!
Thank you Mom ❤

I just watched and enjoyed all your videos. I have a small flower farm in Connecticut, zone 6a. Do you have Instagram page?
Thank you so much! I don't currently have a public Instagram page. Maybe someday!
