Great fight scene. Crazy good! I’ve always said that I don’t think Lucy Liu gets enough credit for her acting accomplishments. She was outstanding as well as Uma. Very creative in the acting, producing and directing. Very unique.
In my opinion, you need a strong, memorable villain to counter the hero or the story feels lopsided and odd. That's why I'm so glad Lucy Liu went all out in her portrayal as O-ren. Another example: Gary Oldman (Stansfield) vs Jean Reno (Leon) in The professional or the best one: Anthony Hopkins (Dr. Lecter) vs Jodie Foster (Clarice Starling) in Silence of the lambs
Just rewatched this and feels like Beatrix and Oren are very close friends back then. Part when Oren apologized to Beatrix for ridiculing her and her accepting the apology then asking her if she is ready.
It was implied that Beatrix was close friends with O-Ren as the did do missions together. Beatrix was also pretty tight with Vernita too. Out of all of the gang, it hurt Beatrix the most that O-Ren and Vernita double crossed her.
It would seem that the lives that most members of the assassin squad lead implies they were not happy with Bill’s decision to attack and kill Beatrix, except Elle, because it’s Elle. For once, they were colleagues, and secondly, they were professional and the gig were gunning down civilians because of Bill’s emotional distress. Not to mention Beatrix’s last line before being shot probably broke Bill because he did later on rescued the baby. That would not have been a nice display to see if you work for Bill. I think Oren was forced into killing Beatrix because Bill gave her the position of power in the yakuza, so the stake were higher for her, even though she probably didn’t like that.
An amazing scene better watched as it was intended to be watched! With hardly any noise and the opportunity to fully appreciate the moment! No enhancers required! Very puzzling to see and ear the water dripping!
@@dush-san1612 I think they meant that you would carry a tanto in addition to your full-size sword as a secondary weapon in case your main one “gets tired” by being broken or otherwise unusable for the fight. They never claimed a tanto wasn’t also a sword.
This is the only time we actually see the bride worrying if she has enough skill to kill oren.. Amazing to see some fear on her face. Plus oren was the only one to injure her in a straight fight lol
O-Ren truly was a mistress of the blade. She could've finished Beatrix but she was an honorable warrior and gave the Bride a chance to get up and fight again.
This scene is epic... one of many in this movie and I still love watching both vol.1 and vol.2 and I'm hoping that Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime video will add those two movies to their lineup.
That actually wasn't an accurate depiction. The hair on that piece of sliced off scalp can't be that long. That would have to be done by holding her long hair up above her head while slicing the scalp off, which was not what was shown in the movie :)
Believe it or not,it is French disco,based on 60s rock music,with flamenco added on top of all of that. Santa Esmerelda with Leroy Gomez. I saw them in a nightclub,touring at the height of their popularity. A personal favorite.
Oren had a preview of the lethal sharpness of the Bride's sword when she chopped Oren's sword sheath, clean in half with one single swing - that surprised Oren. Then Oren was injured - that scared her - then the coup d gras was taking the top of her head off with one powerful move. Imagine how sharp that was!
I like the different styles of fights in Kill Bill: Beatrix vs. Vernita: Quick, like "No big deal"...Vernita was not able to shoot her and wasn´t as quick as Beatrix Beatrix vs. O-Ren: Elegant, maybe with some kind of regret? O-Ren whispered her Apologie, Beatrix accepted. Beatrix vs. Budd: Didn´t happened, but I can imagine a FAST one, just get it done by Beatrix Beatrix vs. Elle: WOOM! BRUTAL! Elle was kind of equal to Beatrix! Fast, tough! But, in the end, Beatrix seemed more to enjoy see Elle suffering than killing her... When she snatched out Elle´s eye she showed her:"This is when someone is as tricky as YOU!" Beatrix vs. Bill: Big showdown! The exploding heart technique gave him the opportunity to have five last steps before passing out, maybe it was Beatrx´s way to say :" i rember our times as a couple, and we have a daugther rogether, BUT, you once killed my future new family and blocked me to start a normal life."
bud and beatrix happened and bud put her in the ground alive. Bud killed her if the shotgun is loaded with shotgun shells not salt. He also kills her if he don;t let her have the flashlight or makes sure shes already dead bud won in every way with beatrix. ELLE killed bud

It was like opening the doors at 0:16 and entering an undiscovered country.
well, technically, they are dancing a sword fight like this is a thing of beauty, grace, and fluidity, played out in tandem with a partner of equal skill but you don't get a second dance once the tempo stops
The choice of music is just amazing. The easy way would have been to go with some old Japanese Kabuki or new score with that style. There are no boundaries with music. There´s thousands of versions that could work, but this was just perfect.
Any Other Director: A Japanese inspired orchestral backing for a Katana fight QT: Nah, just stick on some catchy Ibiza or Caribbean music and it’ll sound ten-times better
I wonder why the density of the blocks is greater on the bottom and less on top. I wonder about the microscopic bubbles in the stone. I think those blocks were poured in place. This is easily recreated from 4 local materials and also solves both the fitting and leveling questions. Certainly easier to believe that transporting 10,000 sixty tonne blocks a month for 20 years.
In reality that shoulder gash from GoGos' Mace would have kept her out of the fight for good and a clean sword blow to the back fatal. Great film though.
