  • The demo of the Erskine 48" mini rotary brush mower on a 2021 Vermeer CTX-160 mini skid steer didn't go as I had hoped it would 🤔. The mower to put it simple, it's awesome. But the Vermeer CTX-160 is a bit of a disappointment do to the radiator getting full of dirt dust and grass clippings within a 1 to 2 hour period of time. I find myself cleaning this radiator out often, just to keep working.😩 One might thing that Vermeer would have worked small details out, like this one ? This isn't good if your planning for a productive day brush hogging 🤑 time is money, RIGHT ? I'll be contacting Vermeer soon about this issue. Some other things I found out about this machine using it with consistent hydraulic flow.
Fuel consumption at 2800 rpm's using the brush mower are around 2 gallons per hour. Engine coolant temperature reaches 219° you will hear the rpm's drop to 2600 rpm's. When the engine temperature reaches 221° you will feel the loss of speed by 1 mph. I hope this video is beneficial to all who watch it and that Vermeer will respond to a correction measure of this issue. God bless you all, and be safe at all you do👍👍

Parts of Highway 124 measure the opening put a furnace filter in the back of it then you just have to clean that out

Yes, you are correct. Another part of a machine that has to be bought 😥 this thing makes dust storms for you to work in 🌪️

Also. The hydraulics aren't your issue. Vermeer CTX runs cooler than any machine on the market. It's 100% that shitty open screen in front of the radiator. I have been trying for almost 2 years to get Vermeer to redesign that grate. Porch screen mesh and carry around a small blower. That's the only fix.

That's kinda what I've been thinking all along,👍 How did you go about attaching the screen to the your machine's openings?

@@workingmanrondoyle3287 I haven't even done it yet. I keep a nice battery powered blower in the truck and watch the cooler when I get in grasses and fluffy material. I just always watch my temps and know what they should normally run. You shouldn't get over about 135 degree hydraulic temps with a mower on that machine. If you get much above that, you need to look down and check your cooler for debris. Email me wesp5284@yahoo.com

Ron, how about using a washable pre-filter like home air conditioners use?
Bummer that this design limits the use of your mini skid steer.
    Any update from Vermeer?

Thanks Jeff for replying I have been trying filters in front of the grill guard and it seems to help but I have to install filters in the other vent holes which is a bummer. I will be posting an updated repair video at 100 hours of use.

@@workingmanrondoyle3287 Looking forward to the update, Ron. I rented a Bobcat MT 85 two weeks ago for storm cleanup using a grapple just like yours. I was very impressed with the power from the mini. Thanks for replying.

You need to contact Quick Attach and verify which gear box combo is on it. On the standard Quick Attach/Erskine units like yours the motor is a little small for a 160 and the output ratio on the gear box is very high to allow adequate blade speed on smaller machines. You are likey to have gear box issues if yours doesn't have the upgraded gear box.

Thank you WPOG! This was just a Demo to see if the Vermeer CTX 160 could do brush hogging without overheating.
If I can get a remedy to the radiator plugging up so fast, I will be purchasing one of these brush hogs. I greatly thank you for your input and will make sure I request the right gearbox and hydraulic motor accordingly 👍

@@workingmanrondoyle3287 I can also tell you how that unit compares to 1050 and 1550 with brush mowers. I have compared each machine running the mowers myself. Also owned a 1050 once for the same purpose.

Hi Ron, Any update on solutions to screen clogging up with grass?

    • @workingmanrondoyle3287
      @workingmanrondoyle3287  Před 2 lety +2

Hey Christopher, thanks for watching. I've been experimenting with a furnace filter that greatly decreases dust circulation through the radiator but sadly grass is still being sucked up through the vent holes under the machine. I'm going to be buying some cuttable furnace filter median for those troubling areas to lay in there. I'm coming up on my 100 hours of use and we'll be doing another video talking about this problem and the hydraulic cylinder rubbing inside the loader arm continued repairs by Vermeer service still being the biggest issue this machine has. Will be doing this video within the next few weeks.

Just blow all the crap out of the radiator and air filter when you are mowing

When I was mowing didn’t matter what the material was it would splash dust and debris in the air and obviously the dryer the conditions were the faster it would plug but it’s part of the job when mowing

I've ordered a brush hog. Should be coming this December. I'll be making a screen to go over the large grill in hopes to catch the grass and fines before it reaches the radiator.
