I miss Chipper Jones as a player in the MLB. But he's now a MLB Hall of Famer, and works for my old team, the Atlanta Braves!
Fantastic interview!!!
I had the joy of growing up in the 90s with solid racing and solid Braves baseball. Through the 90's, that team was absolutely wicked.
Yessirr
Should of won more championship
the Braves had some heart breaking years,.
So wouldn't stuff on your taint look like you sharted?
@@SJKLR99 I wish I would have thought of doing the ol' sticky taint when I was in highschool. Definitely would have helped. 😂
One of the best pitching rotations. Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Avery, and Mercker.
Very long time Braves fan, I remember the worst to first year like it was yesterday.
I'm glad they have at least one world series championship but should have had a couple more. Ironically I think the Indians had the best team they faced in the world series. They were stacked
Man I miss the Braves from the 90’s and early 2000’s. Great interview!
being a huge Mets fan... i do NOT miss the Braves of the 90s & early 00s 😜
@@fivespeed42 I can relate that. :)
Yeah I was just thinking the same thing about the Yankees....... those were some good series🤝
Absolutely the best times of my life trying to be Javier Lopez. I went to school with a Aaron Hogan here in Mississippi.
@@fivespeed42 Haha....those games after the John Rocker SI Interview in Shea were a blast to watch!
3 players that ATL will always love more than anything. Hank Aaron, dale murphy, chipper Jones. The kings of baseball in ATL
Chipper Jones was the first athlete I was legit a fan of. Wore my baseball pants like him, watched every game I could. Seems like a cool guy to hang out with.
Grew up a die-hard Cardinals fan, but I have always been a big fan of Chipper, class act.
This was a great podcast. Usually I’m a bit weary when a non racing guest comes on as it’s usually an hour or two of someone saying how hard they worked to get to where they are and trying to be a motivational speaker. I’ve never watched baseball in my life and I was absolutely loving this podcast and learnt so much!
My dad God rest his soul Loved Chipper Jones.
WAS A GRAT SUNDAY WHEN EARNHARDT WON THE RACE, AND THE BRAVES WON THE SAME DAY!!!
Two great legends great interview
I can’t wait to listen to this whole interview!
Still waiting
It would be great to be Jr to be able to interview all of these great people/athletes.
I was a big Chipper Jones fan as a kid. This is pretty cool.
I remember back in the day when I knew what pine tar was in baseball when George Brett got busted with it !!!! Yes i'm that old LOL !!!!!!!!
Great interview and good to mix it up with other sports athletes.
Very shocked to see James Hetfield on this podcast
Haha! To be real The Mighty Het would be a great guest on the show.
😂😂👍
We need more chipper videos awesome 👍😎
Cool dude. Nice work, Jr.
Chipper and Jr. 2 legends
Chipper on Dale Jrs show?! Never would’ve imagined it. Makes me smile as a Braves fan!
Yeah. Dale's dad was a huge Braves fan.
Chipper and Dale sr.... my childhood in one. I wore my stir ups like chipper during the week playing ball and was sitting on the couch screaming at the tv for the #3 every weekend
I became a Braves fan the year before Chipper came to the majors in 1993. A friend from Atlanta told me, "Watch Chipper Jones, he's going to be a great one."
Your friend was 100% right. Todd Van Poppel was a major bust in the majors as a #1 overall pick.
Favorite Baseball Player and Driver in the Same room
The comment at 6:04 is the absolute best! 😂
This was a badass podcast. Especially when Chipper threw shade at that toolbox Angel Hernandez.
I love Chipper.
Not related, but I think Paul Tracy would be a great guest on the the DJD. As a Canadian racing fan I’m interested to hear stories about how racing is in Canada
One if the good ole Braves! This is pretty cool
Favorite player behind Cal Ripken Jr...Chipper was always pretty nice and signed a lot when i was a kid at the back player parking gate at Turner....Smoltzy and Glavine were the nicest and would sign forever when they would get out of their cars...but my favorite momento from those times is when John Rocker signed my jersey lol
Charlie Finley (owner of the A's) complained about pine tar getting on the baseballs that they would be discarded. As owner, he paid for the baseballs. He didn't want to pay for as many basballs so he asked for that rule about how high pine tar could go on the bat. He was just being cheap.
One thing he would’ve been right on, but the owners didn’t listen because he was so cheap. He wanted almost every guy to be FA every year, not have FA classes where guys get more because they’re the best available. So imagine if Nomar, Jeter, and A-Rod were all FA at the same time in 2000, you think Alex is getting that 252M deal?
Ive listened to countless on field interviews with Chipper, first time ive ever heard him say ballsack
Chipper, one of the best swirch hitters ever... one ring sadly... deserved more...
I don’t do podcasts I wish you would post the whole interviews like you use too
Dont do podcasts? It was just a new word for show, you watch shows? Listen to radio? You do podcasts, you just dont call it that.
❤ Chipper. Best switch hitter ever imo.
Ever hear of Mickey Mantle?
Chipper is such a cool dude
MY FAVORITE BASEBALL PLAYER EVER
Yes! Best 3rd baseman ever
I was doing a comparison a year or so ago and it's crazy how closely he lines up with Mickey Mantle. Mantle is ahead on some stats but Chipper has him in some others. Very similar careers. Also funny that Mantle was my dad's favorite player, Chipper mine.
If i could be there with Dale. I would ask what went on when you crashed the Corvette at Sears Point?
Chipper is so cool class act
Chipper jones. What more can you say. I have almost every jersey this man wore. Baseball players don't come anymore humble.
The deal with George Brett game was that Martin knew he always had pine tar too far up on the bat. He waited for the right time to bring it to the umps' attention, but the rule said the bat is to be removed from the game..., not call the batter 'out'. This is why the Royals protested the call, and the 'out' call was reversed, and, the Yankees & Royals played out the rest of the game at a later date with the Royals winning on Brett home run. Nobody ever brings up the actual ending to that game.
04:20 you're going to see a lot of NASCAR crew chiefs hanging out at the dugouts
Wassup 4:20
Applying pine tar on their drivers steering wheels. 😂
Chipper was a great switch hitter.
"Picky thick rule book" 😄 Sandi
I lived in Deland FL for 7 years. Not unusual to see Chipper Jones "out and about" in public there or in Daytona.
Next to the Jimmy Spenser episodes this was near the top of best.
I liked the Jimmy Means one better. Smut gave the real story on what it was like to race on a shoestring.
Chipper and Dale Jr, I feel I need to eat a hotdog and drink a cold beer! Two of my most favorite Americans!
Dale Jr said taint. 🤣
Still wondering why you guys don’t have the entire podcast on here.
That would defeat the point of a podcast.
True but Jr could do just like Mark Marin...what's the difference?
I'm wondering why you don't just go listen to it on Spotify or something LOL
You can literally go to their website and listen to it for free on the internet.
@@joeyjohnson4826 you don't need to listen to it on Spotify. You can literally type in Dale Jr podcast on Google in the browser and go to the Dale Jr podcast and listen to all the people whose interviewed through the browser. You don't need to download no stupid Spotify app.
That was great... "who's gonna check your ball sack??" Love it!
Great, now we're going to have to watch Joe West giving Garrit Cole a reacharound every 5 days.
Chipper is my sister's favorite ballplayer
Molina uses it on his chest protector so the ball sticks, go find the video of the ball literally stuck to his chest amd he can’t find it and runner took extra bag. But that’s ok..
The innuendo in this
Chipper Cool!
I was there when Chopper retired his last game,I wouldn't have missed chopping for nothing
that's freaking awesome !!!!!!
Chipper was my favorite player I’m a reds fan but I loved watching chipper play
Alex Gordon always had something all over his helmet. You could not even see the team logo.
Larry Wayne Jones Jr! IMHO The Greatest Atlanta Brave of all time!
Hank Aaron, by far !
I haven't watched mlb since he played for the braves
Why can't the video be on spotify with the audio... I don't understand why you can't... audio only pretty much sucks...
Tire pros!
So which one of his ex teammates did the taint thing... Maddux? Glavine? Smoltz?
Pine tar rule was put into effect because the tar was was wrecking the balls back when the used the same ball the entire game
Damn! Chipper looks like he could still be playing today!
The pine tar doesn’t increase rpm on baseballs. But that damn spider tack the new stuff it will add 400-600rpm. But it’s impossible to hit so it’s making the sport go down the tubes as a result.
He seemed to have a hard time understanding the "how do you apply pin tar to the bat" question. Dale asked it twice and got two answers about pitching lol.
Chippers response was how guys use it to cheat not how its actually applied to a bat. I think the subject of cheating lead him to that response. I think jr can figure out how to apply it to a bat cause chip already answered that when he said the batter applies the tar, then the rosin, then more tar.
Played baseball for years. My opinion is stop shaving down the threads on the ball. It helps with grip. But idc honestly. Use the pine tar
Superrr👌👌🌹🌹🌹🙏🙏🙏
Man don't let Jimmy Spencer know anything about pine tar. He'll be applying it on everything. 😂🤣😂😅
"Bace-baw"
You all need to be drinking beer!
This college player that got drafted by the Marlins, Tanner Allen, loves this guy. His number was 5 to atleast be half the player chipper Jones was.
are u tanner allen ? i found this to be a strange statement
Dale jr needs Travis Pastrana on here
So Chipper is saying that a little taint tar is good for grabbing the wood & holding on
Hahahahaha your taint lol I'm died 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As a Ga native I loved the 90s. Braves could win and Dale and Jeff were winning. I remember going to Braves games when we only had Dale Murphy and Hank Aaron
Got the double whammy in '95. Braves won the World Series and Gordon won his first Championship. Good times.
@@slimbrady6691 and Dale won the race. I was there the whole weekend from DW winning the pole to Jeff winning
The rule on pine tar to far up the bat is because owners are cheap. In the 50s or 60s balls were taken out of play due to pine tar on them. Home teams pay for the baseball. Owners to cut cost, made a rule on how far pine tar could go up a bat to keep it off baseballs.
Gaylord Perry was a master at using/hiding various substances for "juicing" the baseball.
AL Bundy? LOL Classic
Have the catcher put a clear sticky in his glove ---umps woul not think of it
LOL
Didn’t ask him about plowing everything in the Hooters restaurant?
What did he do
Dude, he was 20 you would too.
Not while married.
@@GoDawgs18 He had an 18 months affair, and a son, with a Hooters girl while married to his first wife.
Wtf chipper bite the hand that fed ya baseball with all of its rules is the best sport period. Don't be like nascar and change the rules for TV viewers help it stay pure
Sittin on the bench you could reach down....
If the pine tar transfers to the hit ball, maybe it might get stuck in the fielder’s glove?
At your taint? LMMFAO
Brett ,,Martin, was for Hollywood only reason it was done
Baseball teams need to hire retired crew chiefs like Larry Mac to get more creative .
i only watch Racing of all kinds 4 or 2 wheeled, i have no clue as to who this chipper jones guy is,
One of the best baseball players ever for the Atlanta Braves
Just like NASCAR, there's been cheating...err...ingenuity in baseball for as long as there has been baseball. The Astros scandal wasn't so much that every other team was pissed off that they did it...every other team was pissed off that they didn't think of it first.
Exactly. Stealing signs is as old as baseball. In his book, Don Zimmer (3rd base coach at the time) said the 84 Cubs were the best team he ever saw at stealing signs.
The Astros is the biggest cheaters ever. Smash the trash can. Even though I hate Chipper when he was torturing my Mets during his career. He was a great all around player in my generation.
Why not let all the pitchers use it to make it fair? I mean WTF?!!?
Hes drunk

Drunk much in retirement? Just saying if he was driving, he would be all over the road...
A Major League Baseball player had to apologize for hitting a grand slam last year because his team was already winning by multiple runs. And that ladies and gentlemen was the day major league baseball died..
Nascar ain't nothing but picky and politics and ruining racing daily.
Chipper needs to lay off the weed before an interview. Pretty obvious.
Let's move on Dale from this conversation.
Back to talking about racing & life with racers.
