Rugged FIRE BOOTS Are Turned Into DRESS BOOTS | Our MOST Extreme Makeover YET

- This was one of our craziest makeover projects yet! We received this pair of Nicks Boots a couple of weeks ago. The gentleman that owns these boots used them as intended...in forest fires. These boots were rugged, dirty, and what was the request sent to us? Please try to make these into a dress boot. It wasn't easy, but we did everything we could, in the limited amount of time we had, to transition these boots from rugged and beat up to cleaned up and WOW! Time for another restoration!

Sorry y’all for the sound quality in the studio. My mic apparently wasn’t working, and we were in a rush to get this out. We appreciate you all watching!
No water shortage where you guys are apparently. 😂 Next time run the water a few minutes before you begin to soap the boots and a few minutes after you’re done, just for good measure. I type this as I look at the reservoir down below my house dry out as we hope for heavy snow this year.
Phew! Good to know you’re not a robot, and that it was just a minor technical fault. 🤣🤣🤣
I found a heat gun worked pretty well as I never had a lighter. Ha ha
ah i did wonder as it sounded like someone was talking into a bucket!!
Hair dryer set to high works wonders and you don't have to worry about an open flame.
That was so cool!
Thanks man! 👍
Anxiously awaiting my RA x Nicks boots! Beasts!
Next we need a rose anvil x trenton & heath collab 🔥
@@matthewwright4855 ditto!
Rose anvil comments so you’ll find his channel where he destroys perfectly new good boots. Meanwhile, T&H take tired old boots that could arguably justifiably be thrown away and gives them a second life.
Thanks for absolutely transforming these!! Truly amazing. We're looking forward to that collaboration 👊
I can't wait to see the end result of this collaboration. The Rose Anvil boots were awesome. This collaboration will be worth the wait!
Thanks guys! This was a fun one. Looking forward to it! 👍
Oh my. Will be emailing Nick's to begin pestering them about that immediately.
Hey! I really appreciate the effort you're putting into marketing lately! I first watched Fireball's video on the boots he made and have watched a couple more were you guys were featured. You definitely won me over! I'll be picking up a pair in a year or so when my current set are worn through!
Most comfortable boots I’ve worn are nicks. Best fire boots out there! Definitely worth every penny!
You know you're good when you have a 79 year old from South Africa loving your videos. Beautiful work.
This is so stunning. I'm 75 already but I still remember my father's shiny polished shoes. He was 6' 2" in the old jargon and always with a shoulders back, straight back posture. And a good looking man to boot!!
I'm happy to know that there are still a few people out there with this type of skill! We need more, no more throw away boots!
I remember my dissapointment when I realised that a line of stitches on my shoes where fake.
Yes sounds good in theory but before the mass production of shoes, a lot of people were in sandals or barefoot. They cost too much.
You know you're going to get a great episode when T&H begin with scrubbing the boots in a sink made for dirty work. Thanks fellas - true artisans!
I love the new look of the boot. You guys nailed it!!! 👏👏
😄 Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Oh man, the water coming off that boot into the sink so SO gnarly
What did you scrub them with? As in what cleaner?
@@lovecats6856 it looked like just saddle soap. I know they tend to favor Saphir products so it might have been their brand of saddle soap.
Love all of the collaboration between makers and repair shops. You’re all world class.
I think that was a fantastic job of craftsmanship. To take a pair of boots that a man has trusted his life to, been a part of many experiences no doubt, and turn them into a fantastic looking everyday boot is just priceless. The uncompromising construction of Nick's boots, the undoubtedly amazing fit after all the wear, and the superb look that you guys gifted them with...I'm stunned into redundancy. Those are fantastic. Priceless. Well done.
Was thinking "Hey they look pretty clean already" until the lather started turning black haha
You guys have become the " We are going to show you what we can do" channel and it is great. Transforming shoes from ebay and Target and my favorite with Heath making his own golf shoes and now this. Love what you guys do and present to us. I can't wait to see what is next.
Thank you so much, Joseph!
Y'all truly amazing. In this era of "just good enough" and planned obsolescence, I just smile ear to ear at your incredible vision and craftsmanship. May this return to America, I pray.
First time watching your channel; I grew up in Phoenix arizona, in our neighbor there was a man who was a cobbler, my father on occasion would take his shoes or boots to be repaired but I never watched him at work, I was always amazed at how he could take what I thought was old shoes and breath life back into them. Watching you guys showed me the skill and talent that it takes to build a quality product.
I absolutely love these videos where you take tired old shoes and reimagine them in new ways! A true showcase of your skill and knowledge. They make me look sideways at my collection and wonder how my own shoe collection could be individualised! Thanks to your channel amongst others, I have been investing heavily in high quality footwear over the last couple years, predominantly Crockett and Jones bought used on eBay. Thank you again for your fantastic work and videos, I am always excited when I see a new video pop up! Cheers gents, Alexander.
Thanks, Alexander. We really appreciate you watching!
The skill and knowledge is there but why in hell anyone would spend this much to get a dress boot of out these I do not get. Just buy a nice pair and have your boots for hiking and dirty play. I don't get it unless you carried your buddy thru a bloody war and it's a sentimental thing you have to have these boots go be dress boots. Insanity. More money than I have and I am not jealous, just if I was a billionaire I would do the same.
I took an appreciation for leather after receiving my dearly departed cousins satchel/briefcase. I’ve watched a ton of leather restoration videos and is how I found your channel. I love your content and the interaction you have with [and I’m guessing here] your brother and I’ve already watched about 20 episodes. One thing I would like to see is, bigger, better and longer money shots (sounds like a commercial for Extends😜). Of course the before and afters are what we look forward to, kinda like dessert following a good meal but you guys only give us a tease of your handy work. Maybe that’s by design but I sure would like to see more of the finished product. Keep up the awesome work fellas!!
Wow! What a transformation. They came out great. You wouldn’t recognize them as the same boots. They look wonderful.
If I hadn’t watched it myself, I wouldn’t have believed that a pair of rugged boots can be transformed to a pair of dress boots!
And the brouging! Stunned!
Amazing job, Gents!
Thank you, Reuben!
Nice job guys, btw now that’s a “rapid Blake stitched” construction
Thanks, Steve! That’s affirmative. 👍
Oh no, he's at it agian :)
Say it with me, "a RAPID Blake stitch construction!" :)
Hey, whilst I have all the experts here, is Rapid Blake superior to Goodyear? It seems to be the most robust (having a whole midsole as a welt).
Most blake rapids use the midsole as the welt, where we added a separate welt attached to the upper. The insole stitching was not required where it is on BR. Just as Nicks insole stitches, but also outsole stitches. Theirs is a stitchdown and not a BR. This was a hybrid between all three construction methods.
The MAN, the Myth, the Legend!! Look who makes a cameo !!! Steve's in da house !!!
The love for the trade is the reason you two do the work so beautifully. Great job, attitude and thanks for sharing.
I love seeing shoes get redone -so satisfying ! Thank you
It's great to see you guys putting your custom leather working skills on display in this one . Great job...very impressive!
Thank you!
I cannot believe what you guys do with leather. Just when you show a boot or shoe I think--" toss it " you perform a miracle. Kudos guys !
So, if you didn't have to replace the shank, would that be a "Shoe Shank Redemption" ? Asking for a friend.
That was golden!!! 😂
Well played.
It certainly was
You can leave now.
You've been pardoned.
Wow! Great craftsmanship!
As someone who works with my hands(build stringed instruments) I totally love these videos.
Thank you very much for watching!
This was hilarious! Living in the PNW you always see Nicks boots covered in ash, dirt, oil. To see them shiny and totally brogued out? Awesome. I can’t stop grinning. I kept chuckling throughout the video.
This should become a cult classic!
Thanks guys!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it.
What wonderful workmanship! Thank you!
Your knowledge, expertise, craftmanship and technical skills are mind blowing. To watch you guys perform magic on shoes is absolutely beautiful to see. I have huge respect for both of you . Thank you both for a really worthwhile show.
A heat gun also does a great job of melting wax into the pores of the leather (I like to think it's more gentle, even though it's probably not). Great video, super impressive! You guys are masters of your craft!
Thank you so much!
You truly outdid yourselves on this one, guys! Just when we think we’ve seen all of your talents, you step up your game. Thanks for always “bringing it!”
Thanks, Anthony!
Those are INCREDIBLE!, WOW!!
Don’t know why I find your work so interesting, but I love your channel. I have mad respect for any traditional crafts that preserve the history of authentic hand made work. The tools in your shop look vintage from another era. You guys always pull off an amazing finished product!
When they started, I thought they were about to break into the Hodge Twins intro.
"We got a good show fo' y'all, today. We got a daaayum good show!!"
Thank god I wasn’t the only one
I loved Heath's "we just had to burn the sh.....heck out of these things". To maintain your composure and not chuckle at that almost slip of the tongue was impressive ;-)
😉
For the record, he actually said “We just had to burnish the heck out of these things.” No near slip of the tongue there.
Beautiful! Love these restoration/repurpose videos!
I love seeing what y'all can do with footwear. It amazes me.
Thanks for bringing these videos to us.
I was shocked to see what appeared to be drywall screws in these boots!
Amazing work, as always, love that he now gets a wonderful dress boot that has an awesome history to go with it. I appreciate your work ethic and always look forward to your videos!
Thank you, Brendan!
"Thank you" to the guys who stand in the middle of burning woods with just a shovel and axe to protect the rest of us. 👍
Gorgeous transformation! Love watching.
Awesome to see that you keep this profession alive!
Thumbs up if y’all need a "Y'all" shirt
You know it is going to be a good video when it starts with washing the boots in the sink followed by "unscrewing" the old sole. Just about spit my coffee when I saw the shaft of the boot being assaulted by a razor knife. The care, attention and craftsmanship that went into this amazing transformation was a testament to the fine work that your subscribers have come to expect from a pair of southern gentlemen. Thank you for sharing.
You’re so kind. Thank you very much!
"Built like a tank" um, pardon, but I do believe I have seen tanks that werent that sturdy. 😂 Well done!
Wow, beautiful outcome.
One of these days y’all need to show us how those nails “crimp” over when nailing them through on the metal plate maybe when you have some scrap leather to waste… I find it fascinating watching these videos
👍 Will do
I believe the term "clinch" might make it a little easier to envision. As the point of the nail impacts the metal plate, it makes a "U-turn" and drives back into the leather ("clinching" itself to the leather).
Thanks, Guys. The transformation was outstanding❤️!! I have signed up for the Collab. I am hoping to see a high stitch density, thick soles, and regular gusseted tongue design. I am very excited 🥾
New to your channel - I’m really enjoying seeing your craftsmanship, learning about some new tools and terminology. It’s clear that you both really have a love for what you do and an appreciation for the history, a respect for your art, and a deep understanding of the materials. Love the channel! Happy New Year and good luck!
Love this. Shows your care for and attention to Detail.
What a brilliant move by Nicks Boots. We literally get to see how well-made they are and how hard they are to take apart.
Just amazing work! How much would something like this cost?
The leather - working skills on display here are truly next-level.....bravo gentlemen!
Thank you so much! We appreciate you watching.
Thank you very much!
Stunning!
Kudos for craftsmanship 🙏
absolutely amazing makeover !!!❤
Great job. But I would have appreciated more before and after photos. You guys do great work - don't be afraid to show it off.
That was awesome! I've recently subscribed to Nick's channel. It's baffling how many brands do not leverage social media to the fullest. I think Allen Edmonds and Alden could learn a thing or two from them.
Thank you! Yep, I totally agree.
Wow!! Now thats a Restification! They came out Beautiful..
You two fellows are true artists and craftsmen! I love to watch you make silk purses from sows ears!
Absolutely genius! Can't wait to send you guys my motorcycle boots.
Thank you!
I love my Nick’s I have a pair of BuilderPros and they are amazing
boots look amazing! Very clean!
Absolutely Gorgeous Job!!!!
Wow that was amazing - must have been a pricey job, the amount of time spent. Worth it though - incredible transformation.
Thank you!
It was a sacrilegious experience watching this video… my Nick’s Builder Pros will stay true to character!😉
😉
Just flawlessly amazing workmanship …. You people are the right example in terms of whatever you do.. give your best
"Our MOST extreme makeover YET"
And the award for Understatement of 2021 goes to Trenton and Heath...
Y'all give new - and perhaps clearer - meaning to the term: "Cobble Something Together"
😁👍
Thank you!
You guys did great! Thank you for your continued great efforts!!!
Absolutely awesome !!
Instead of using a lighter to melt the wax into the leather, I have used a hair dryer on the hottest setting to melt wax into my purse handle that needed a gloss as well as a stiffer handle to hold it's shape. And it worked flawlessly
Are we going to see a Wranglerstar episode soon “Westcoast professional homeowner reviews Eastcoast professional cobbler boot transformation”? Ha ha
Great job guys.
LOL! I kept thinking those have to be Wranglerstars boots. That would be a fun collaboration wouldn’t it. Especially as he is a Nicks boots fan.
But, for Cody... it would NEED to be "Proper" to be given the Wranglerstar endorsement. (Not that T&H work isn't "Proper"... just a REQUIREMENT for Cody). LOL
Very impressive craftsmanship, and a great project. Thanks for documenting that!
Wow! What a transformation! They came out awesome!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this build! I'd suggest something like this to be done in a two-part video. This is very cool. A great way to retire some hard working foot gear, to do an ultimate recycle of a product, and to preserve memories to be shared in later years.
BTW, Preston (Elegant Oxford) recently let out of the bag that he's finding good results by filling the pores of the leather first, with Mirror Gloss, and then finishing the mirror shine with Medaille D'or. The softer MD (with more solvents) seems to respond better to the water/alcohol solution he uses, to bring out the gloss faster. Makes sense, gonna see how that works next time I get motivated to be serious about a shine.
Awesome! Thanks for the tip. We enjoy watching Preston as well.
now lets see them turn dress boots into actual fire fighting boots ( not just the appearance but actual fully NFPA 1999, ASTM F 2413, CAN/CSA-Z195) compliant and certified )it would be interesting to see how much of the original boot remained.
wonderful! you steps remind me of a boot restoration i undertook myself 7 years ago with french service boots from 1939.
i did everything but the resoling myself, which was done by a local cobbler in frankfurt am main.
restoring / reviving / transforming footwear is one of the most satisfying things i’ve done and it’s the reason i prefer vintage shoes and boots over current products.
They did come out GREAT!👍😊
Awesome work. Pure Pride and Craftsmanship. Just Awesomeness!!!!
Shear genius gentlemen! A splendid outcome. Thank you for the generous sharing!
Wow! I like it w/out the mirror shine. Amazing work.
Amazing! I think you guys can take a dumpster and turn it into fine furniture. Also, you’re both very articulate. You didn’t stutter, stammer, snort, hesitate, cough, grunt, or say “um” a hundred times. Well done.
Amazing! The one and only brogues boots. Love the brouging patterns too!
Love seeing you guys do these reconditioning of boots and shoes.
This is a great video my uncle had a shoe repair place in Gary Indiana and my cousin is a actual shoe maker in Greece where we are from on the Island of Karpathos there is a shoe specific to the island and you still go and have them made for you and they fit you up and wear them most of your life you just keep repairing that reminds me of how we do it there ,you are true artists .a dying art here in thee states where we throw everything away ,and most from China .
Beautiful job !!!!!
Great job guys! What a transformation!
Wow. Fantastic job.
My new binge watch thank you for sharing
More dress boots conversions. So fascinating and beautiful. Well done boys 😎
The craftsmanship, attention to detail and patience is great!
Woow, beautiful job... Congrats guys..
Fantastic job guys.
Love you guys, true craftsman!
I love your channel. I find it so relaxing with all the little shop noises.
Amazing work guys❣️
Oooh, those are beautiful!
What a awesome transformation from rugged boot to dress shoe. As soon as the lighter came out though it all came back to me. I was cranking out mirror finishes in the barracks for dress inspections all throughout A and C school. Easy money, boys.
great result, enjoyed the video, thanks
Y’all do unbelievable work.
BEAUTIFULLY DONE
Great job and thank you both for your sacrifice
As soon as you started down the road with “you may be wondering”, my brain was right there in “old school” mode. Well done sir. Those boots are just an amazing piece. The artistry and craftsmanship gone into the transformation has to be seen to be believed.
