  • Hello.
In this video we take a look at the top of the line european model CLD-2950 from Pioneer, it was later succeded by the CLD-D925 and DVL-909/919 DVD LD combo players.
Make sure the drive is unpluged before you carry out any service under the bonnet (cover removed), I have a lack of knoweldge on the PSU in this drive so take the imformation with a pinch of salt. If your device is not powering on check the fuse is not blown and all capicators look good and replace them.
    Enjoy.

I gave a thumbs up as soon as I heard the Last Action Hero 360 reference 😆 I’ve just repaired my CLD-2950 and you’ve answered many questions I had, thank you.

Just here cause my CLD-2950 broke down, laser issues. Around IC902,your vid seen at 10:15 min,Left of screwdriver, I found couple of bad capacitors, very leaky and totally off specs. C976,C970,C967,C987,C968. All were the brown ones, as there are also black case capacitors, those seems to age better.Without measure equipment you even can spot them due to corroded leads of them. So really leaky.
Now audio-CDs are working, but very pick when touch the case of the player, it skips easy, LaserDisk, still not, so have to digg further, I do hope not adjustments of the laser cause lach of service remote and special LD-s .Damn, I am said.
CLD-2950,was..., a great player, even already some degrading LD-s it still would play them, when other LD-player would reject those bad disks.

I stupidly sold my 2950 many years ago in favour of a CLD-925. My regret was instant. The 2950 was the last player to not futz with the image via digital processing. I’m still using the 925 after resurrecting my old LD collection and now looking to undo this heinous error by getting a 2950 in favour of the 925.

😆... you need to go to Laser Disc confession.
I like both the CLD-D925 and the updated CLD-2950. The major drawback in my experience is the turn mechanism on the 2950. The CLD-D925 and similar in my experience do it with bit more grace and I suspect they might last longer.
The downside of the CLD-D925 and similar is the M-Holder but these can now be bought as new 3D printed spares.
Make sure you try all outputs for video on the CLD-D925 to your TV etc. SCART and RCA some models have less noise on the second SCART socket for example.
      Thanks for watching the video.

@@DRCHRISTIANMD yeah, I’m running through a Lumagen XD on composite, which is by far the better output of the three. The S-Video is the worst, given the arduous route it takes.

This is a great video. What was the cleaner spray used on the black rubber spindle that had all the dirt on? I'd very much like to clean my player as it slips and fails to read the disc on the first go and always picks up after ejecting and closing the disc.

Hello, first that's great you got something out of the video that helps you keep your player going. Generally the recommendations state to change the belt but as per video a clean ( and my experience) with orange surface cleanser ( mild cleaner) is what I used. Isopropyl Alcohol can also be used in a pinch but it can degrade the rubber further so a more pH neutral solution is best. You are basically taking off the loose rubber that has worn off from the belt and is causing the slipping. You should still obtain a new belt when you get a chance and a clean in the meantime should get you back up and running.
Remember to clean the two parts on the carriage assembly where the belt makes contact as this will also cause issue with even a new belt.

@@richardbrobeck2384 yes if its black and sooty it's not a bad idea to remove and clean off the old grease and of course put fresh grease on after.

Does this model need a voltage converter to work in the U.S. or is it dual voltage?

    • @DRCHRISTIANMD
      @DRCHRISTIANMD  Před rokem

Yes, unfortunately, you will need a converter as the player is only 220v compatible.

Hello, one of the main road blocks to repair is distinct lack of spare parts at this stage. Curious however is it this model you have or some other version, let us know and thanks for watching the video.
