Avanti West Coast 2023

Filmed throughout 2023. From the outings which we did, we managed to collect the years highlights from the West Coast Mainline main intercity train operator, Avanti West Coast.
Class 221 Super Voyager. Built and constructed by Bombardier Transportation in Belgium between 2001 and 2002. A total of 44 of these set being built with 24 sets being owned by Cross Country Trains and 18 for Avanti West Coast and with 2 now sub leased from Avanti West Coast to work for Grand Central Trains. These units have a maximum running speeds of up to 125 MPH. The Avanti West Coast class 221 Super Voyagers are fitted with on board tilting systems which enables the trains to run at line speed like the class 390 Pendolino's. These units has been in service for ex train operator Virgin Trains since 2002 along the West Coast Mainline. Although, their future remains unknown as the new built Hitachi class 805's are set to replace these Super Voyagers.

The class 390 Pendolino's were built by Alstom Fiat Ferroviaria between 2001 & 2004. A total of 59 of units has been built in either 9 or 11 carriage formation. The class 390/0 are known as 9 carriage units and 390/1 are 11 carriage units. The class 390 Pendolino set the record for the fastest Electric Multiple Units (before HS1) of running speeds of 140 MPH. However, the limitations to track signalling do restrict these units to line speeds of 125 MPH. In the early days of Virgin Trains and for the class 390 Pendolino's, these units were also known to be working on London Euston to Holyhead diagrams which these units were dragged by a few of the modified class 57 locomotives where the class 57's would drag the class 390's between Crewe to Chester/Holyhead.
