Don’t ever leave your boat in drive while you are not connected to your kill switch while you are alone 30 miles off shore.

I went offshore once by myself in the same area. I had 2 kingfish on at the same time! Got them both then cut my leg on a tooth! Thought it was the fish bleeding. Kinda scary moment until I stopped bleeding.

I seen a 12 ft hand made boat with two 5hp motors bring a load of Cubans 90 miles to Key west using 2 liter soda bottles for fuel tanks. I am going to run my Mako Pro 19 Skiff 70 miles one way from Key West to Ft Jefferson in may of 2026. Just to be safe I am going go about 30 minutes ahead of the "Yankee Freedom" (takes tourists daily to Ft Jefferson). I have all the safety equipment (Compass, Simrad, Hand held GPS, EPIRB etc). Why you ask? Because its there.

0:25 I can see the boat is underway. You are walking from one side to the other. I know there is a cable connection to the ignition that cuts the boat's power in case we fall into the water. But I noticed you don't have that connection, what happens if you go to sea? Is the boat still going?? If so its very danger my brother. Thanks and all the best for

    • @austinsadventures305

VHF, PFD, PLB, more water than I need as well as food to last if necessary. There is plenty more you can do to be safer, but it gets very pricey. Depends on what kind of electronics and stuff the boat has. You also need to take into consideration trailer and boat condition. A new one is probably 40-50k. I’m not sure though with the way the industry is right now. Lots of demand, very little supply.

I know these waters. I was born and raised on Merritt Island and I have fished offshore Port Canaveral since I was a young boy back in the 80's. The Atlantic is not as unforgiving as the Gulf of Mexico, but to venture that far from shore in such a small single engine boat is very dangerous in that area. If your motor was to fail or if you encountered a squall, you could find yourself at the mercy of the Gulf Stream and the fate many who have fished this area have found previously such as drowning, starvation, and death by exposure. An EPIRB, VHF, and proper supplies may save you, but none of these are fool proof. This is a foolish risk. I would not advertise my "false bravery" and extreme foolishness to the world if I were in your shoes. It smells like a very poor attempt to get some attention and even a rookie would know this is too risky. I am ashamed to have blessed you with a view, but I had to know who was this foolish in the first place. Next time, go in a bigger boat, bring along someone who may save your life should something bad occur, and use that melon on your shoulders for survival instead of thinking up foolish gimmicks like this one.
