- Today we're back on Nez Perce Valley to pick up where we left off in our last hunt. As we find our way through a map we haven't hunted much lately, we stumble into our first ever melanistic, as well as an unexpected 5 star!

I have a mela doe in the herd that frequents the fields just outside the lodge in Nez Perce. She came in after an old mature doe died/cycled out. She's a young right now, and super tempting, but I think I'm going to let her grow up a bit and maybe hit mature before I take her. She is beautiful to watch and take pictures of in the meantime!

At flinter you should run this loadout next time you go on vurhonga. I got it from the movie the ghost and the darkness based on the book by Lt col john patterson. He used .450 nitro express .303 British rifle and 12 bore double barrel shotgun. So i say run the .460 nitro express .303 12 double barrel and the 454 in case the animals charge you after you run out of ammo lol. Go mainly after lions and cape buffalo. Get into close range and show them the mighty of the .460 nitro

I got my second melanistic doe mule deer earlier today. It was just down from the starting lodge by the river. Haven’t seen any other rares on my maps yet though

Nice to know the deer species can be mela now too, dummy me manages all my other herds then shoots an albino white tail buck as a young just to see what it was to be fair it was more of a Grey than I would've expected

I shot a melo Mule Deer buck that only had a fitness of 63% the other day

Your map is very detailed. As a new player I’m wondering is that location specific or are there ways to improve the map?

Hey flinter, how do I know when an age cycle happens? Just by seeing if the animals age? How many in game days does it usually take for you?
Take 3-4 days and usually when using hunter sense with bios you wil see their age and also look at fur greyish fur for whitetails mean they are mature and more brown and colorfull deers are usually young

Weirdly, I got the melanistic alert the first time I shot a Surf Scoter on Aurora Shores, needless to say I was a little confused..
Why not keep the mella until shes a mature and get a chance on her too pass on the gene to a buck?
how long is an aging cycle? how do you keep track of when to wait and when to shoot. I usually just shoot everything on sight xD
When you get a good shot, how is your blood so bright, I can never see mine! Do you do anything special?
Flinter I’ve been watching your videos for years And I finally got hunter call the wild and I cannot find any animal I shoot how can I fix that and how can get better kill shots with out my scope going all over the place
My first mela was one of the duck species, shame I didn't stuff it.
That is a bug/error. There’s no melanistic duck in game, only roe deer and mule deer.

It's my 3rd rare on Nez Perce😂 I have 2 other mela mule deer, both bucks!
Honestly I call bs on the high fitness thing. I had a melanistic mule buck just outside the bear den lodge first day of playing and it has definitely didn't have high genetic fitness
