I was hoping to see the part where, as Sting was walking off stage, Vince Gill said to him, "Now that you've done a country song, does that mean that we can call you 'Stang'?"
I was music director for KIOK in the tri cities when Toby and Sting sang this on the CMA's. The next morning I had been overnighted Toby's version which became the monster hit. Stings version is cool and it was cool that Toby let sting sing the bulk of it on the CMA's
The only thing missing on that stage for musician of the year is Mark O’Connor on fiddle. I love this performance and I remember watching it live. What a cool way to honor the musicians.
I read an interview with Toby Keith about him doing this song with Sting. He said from the begin they did not get along. This was their music company's idea. Keith said his in your face kidding around attitude and Stings calm cool relax attitude crash against each other from day one. I was almost in shock they both seem like really cool guys and they did the song so well. I think it was in Country Magazine.
Love this, but any way that someone could do me a very special favor and upload the version with both Sting and Toby that they used to play on the country stations, It's my all time favorite and I can never find it on You Tube, Anyone have it that would be able to upload it? Thanks! Love this too, just miss that one!
I know Toby Kieth is a good singer/performer, but he seems just a little "out of his element" on this song. This song has some chord changes and modulations as well as vocal melody curves and nuances that are not typical of your average country songs - and Toby just sounds like he's just not quite on to it. Sting is an extremely gifted composer and singer and I think a lot of his tunes are difficult to cover.
It's been 50 years now since she's been gone..... no phone calls, nothing! Guess she ain't comm'in back! LOL LOL LOL LOL , Opps, I mean, it's sooo sad! LOL LOL LOL LOL
Sting wrote a wonderful country song but Toby IS a country singer. I disagree that most country artists don't write their own material. Garth, Yoakam, Willie, Cash, Kris, Brad Paisley, etc. ALL wrote their own. Even George Strait wrote his first one!
They are both great musicians, but Sting wrote this song countrygirllol. Most country artists don't write their own music. They are performing together because those of us who don't live in a trailer park appreciate seeing Sting and Toby together on stage.
adrian newman: If only country singers can sing this song why did Sting write it? Are you afraid that someone other than jingoist pandering sheep can write a superior "country" song? To reiterate; Sting wrote the song. Your boy gladly sung along with the master. I don't even know why I waste my time.
Not trying to upset anyone, but I found this performance disappointing. Sting's original is a superb song. Toby's studio version is 'not bad' (and not great). Somehow in this live version the song is pitched too high (especially for Keith). Neither voice sounds particularly good, and the harmonies don't work very well, almost like they had hardly rehearsed together. Hmm. (And I LOVE the song.)
R.I.P. Toby Keith (1961-2024)

And Sting said..."No..."😂
Have to give credit to Toby Keith for letting Sting sing the bulk of the song, since it was Sting's originally.

What a cool way to introduce the other musicians.
love this cant stop crying to it but love it
I love the way they presented these nominations--very creative!
I prefer the version with Toby singing the majority of the song, but its good either way. Also this is a cool way to have the musicians recognized.
The one thing that is cool with CMA they got an award for best musician.
Love this song
Good stuff
Love the duo but wish someone would upload the radio version of it.

Sting is the best. Toby Keith runs a close second.
This is an awesome song but the studio version is better
The song is just awesome. Btw does anybody know what kind of tie Sting wears here?
Colonel Sanders tie
@@k9feces Thank you.
I honestly came here to see if Sting would sport that great harido he had in the video.
Interesting that Toby and Sting swapped parts, with Sting singing the bulk of the song.
I’ll be damn

toby keith sings better then him
I like Toby's version a lot more. Sting sings way out of tune.
