As a frequent British visitor to France, one of my favourite things about the country is the fact that it’s simultaneously a northern European country and a southern European country (a good way of illustrating this is noting that Dunkirk - 51.03°N - is almost on the same latitude as London - 51.51°N - whilst Perpignan - 42.69°N - is more or less on the same latitude as Rome - 41.90°N), and the food, people, architecture and general lifestyle reflect this fact. There is nothing I like better than getting a ferry to Brittany and Normandy, enjoying the Franco-Celtic green and pleasant scenery for a few days, then hopping on a TGV and 4hrs later I’m soaking up the sun, listening to the electric buzz of the cicadas, and walking among the palm trees of Nice, or Marseille, or Perpignan. The colours change to reflect the predominant skies. Paris, with its resolutely monochrome palette, knows it's a northern town. 250 miles south and you’re in Lyon, a city whose colours resemble a box of ripening peaches and with bleached red roofs reflecting the southern sun. The fact the country also borders 8 other countries makes it endlessly fascinating, as you get that Flemish vibe in Lille, a distinctly Germanic tone in Strasbourg, and that seductive Latin magnetism of Spain and Italy in Bayonne and Nice. Food, people, weather, architecture all distinctly change to a fascinating extent from region to region, city to city, village to village. In many ways, notwithstanding its strong centralism and the prevalent 21st century globalism, France feels like about 3 or 4 countries in one. For all these reasons (and more!), it’s an endlessly captivating place.
Vous avez résumé la France parfaitement
@@fafaderkaoui1801 Merci! 👍
France is a vibe... especially the alps and riviera! 😁⛰️🏝️🇫🇷
Such a vibe 🇫🇷😇
Have you ever been to France before?
The Loire Castles like Chambord or Chenonceau also are incredible !!
I gotta visit them!
I love everything French!!! We have been very lucky to visit most of these places!!!!
That's awesome! Where is your favorite place in France?
@@RyanShirley too many to pick
Hello dear how are you doing today?
I love verything in England
@@richardbittencourt8515 What do you want?
Saint Malo, Saint Emilion, Bonifacio, Bordeaux, and Biarritz are also lovely places to visit in France. I’ve been there it’s amazing
I gotta visit them all!
Countless truly outstanding places in France...as in most of Europe but the variety of landscapes and the history of France makes it special, with Italy only which can challenge it IMO
Saint-Malo is definitely the most beautiful city I've ever visited
@@jojo-rq8lj me too
Bordeaux is my favorite French city. I love it much more than Paris.
France is my favourite country so far !!!! 💙🤍❤ so beautiful !
Such a magical place!
I love France so much. I spent three months there in 2019. I visited Pau, Bordeaux (my absolute favorite), Tolousse, and many historical tiny villages in the south. My partner and I had a picnic for our anniversary in the Pyrenees Mountains by a waterfall. We spent Christmas morning exploring a walled city before returning to the farmhouse where we were staying. France is my most memorable part of being a nomad. My partner and I are going to apply for residency in France next year.
Bienvenue en France ! Where would you guys live in France ?
@@nonokbh countryside outside Bordeaux. We're planning now to apply for residency in late 2022 or early 2023 so we can live there part of the year.
@@todrapayne Fantastic ! Bordeaux is a gorgeous city, surrounded by the best wineyards in the world, close to the surf beaches and the amazing Cap Ferret ! Have you started to learn some French ? ;)
@@nonokbh Yes, just started. My guy is much better at languages than I am, so I'm struggling. 😄
@@todrapayne Don't you worry. Even if you have a few words people will welcome you with open harms if you just make a very little effort. Then with a glas of Loupiac comes the fun and you are part of the family 😄. So glad you come to France you look very enthousiastic this is fabulous ! Enjoy yourself ! La vie est belle !
Augergne is such an incredible place, old dead volcanoes are beautiful and even magical during fall.
I need to visit it next time I go to France
@@RyanShirley my family is from here I go there at least once a year and it's so beautuful you'll love it.
Climb the Puy de Dôme ( or you can take a little train to go up) the view is AMAZING :)
Perigord/Dordogne is really amazing, my favourite place in France personally
I gotta go back and check it out!
If you like to eat it is the pace to be 🤓
Only downside is that is is also known as "Dordogneshire" as there are so many Expat Brits.
As a French I would say huge thanks for this TOP10, OMG so lucky to be French

France is so diverse in its Landscape and culture. Love it. I have spent time exploring the Alps and south. A great life experience
France really has it all!
I did two seasons in the French Alps. France has so much to offer 👍
No way! Where is your favorite place in the Alps?
It's amazing that a country of 212,000 square miles can have such incredible geographic diversity! And that's not even counting the overseas departments and territories. I am so proud to having been born in Paris and have remained French my entire life. There's so much more I want to see! Thanks Ryan, you brought back some wonderful memories.
I mean sure but France isn't that small. It's twice the UK's size lmao
@@charles1413 it's only the size of Texas if you think about it... but it's packed with much more diversity, which makes it feel so much bigger
@@idrk7509 I get what you saying!
@@idrk7509 And there is just not the continent France there is also the islands and territories around the world that bring a lot of diversity and wonderful places :)
Being German me and my wife (who is a french teacher) always refer to france to be a 'continent in itself'. North, south, east and west are much more different as almost all countries I have been visiting (well: maybe Germany, but this is for visitors to explore). Enjoying the cool waters at Fontaine de Vaucluse, listening to music in the gardens of Versaille, taking a ride on white horses in the Camarque (being afraid of horses) and hiking in the Massif Central are things being so different but also so 'french' ... .
From my (german) point of view there always is a central impression I have being in France: Those guys know how to enjoy life!
It's my dream to visit France. It's such a gorgeous country.

France is so beautiful and there are so many stunning Places to go to. The Camargue is incredible, with its culture, nature and small Cities like Saintes Maries de la Mer or Aigues-Mortes. This year we spent Somerset time at the Cote d‘albatre in the Normandy, especially in Veules les Roses. We love it.
Ah I gotta go back and visit them all!
Thank you Ryan for showing France in such a beautiful way; and there are so much others beautiful places in our country...

France really a beautifull country. good video
Finally a list of things to visit in France that goes a bit beyond the expected. Thanks for sharing! I would have loved to see a couple more images from some of the places you mention and barely show (Avignon, for example) but a great start to do some more research. Nice stuff.
Beautiful.
Probably the most beautiful country in the world.
It really is amazing!
This is my home sweet home. Thank you so much for making this video! 🇫🇷 ❤️
You’re from a special place :)
Awesome! I hate crowded touristy place so I'd probably avoid Paris and visit one of those cute sleepy towns! :D
I'm with you, its hard to beat the smaller towns hidden in the countryside! :)
You can’t avoid Paris 🤦♂️ It’s so amazing with so many beautiful monuments 🤩
Trust me, these places are crowded as well.
Well for Paris, don't fear ...BUT... you must get an hotel right in the center (in "Le Marais" would be good).....That way, Paris itself not being very big, you could WALK! just about everywhere interesting.......That how I visited Paris and that was the most enjoyable way to do it ( yes I'm from Paris but Parisians still have to"visit/explore" their home town!!!)
Some favs are the chateaux of Chenonceaux and Chambord
I've never visited them, but when I go back I gotta check them out!
Hi Glenn Smith?
I totally agree.
Amazing video Ryan, beautifully shot and produced.
Wow I just started planning a trip there this summer ! I needed this

Great video. Cant wait to go back to explore some of the regions i havent been to.
The pleasure we derive from journeys is perhaps dependent more on the mindset with which we travel than on the destination we travel to!!!!!

Great job! those motion pictures are gorgeous ! As these places would tend to be pretty crowded in August and July, September, and even October for the south, would be a good moment to travel there. Ryan, if there's somebody in the world whose life I envy the most, that one would definitely be you. I wish some day I could visit so many different places with so much typical cultural and geographical characteristics, though I'm already older than you. What else can I say? Another awesome video with stoning scenic pictures. I thought you would not mention the wonderful Côte d'Azur in South France, but the coast was there, in the end. I already know some of these places, specially those towns in Alsacia. I guess you could dedicate a whole video to the south of France, including lovely towns in the Region of Provence and its fields of lavender as well as costal towns and the beautiful "calanques" such as those of Cassis, for instance. Thanks for the video
Thank you very much Ryan for showing my country, for people who could be interested there is also to visit, le colorado de Rustrel, le Pic de Midi de Bigorre, le cirque de Gavarnie, Peyrepertuse, Les gorges du Verdon, Le Puy de Dôme, Rocamadour, Colmar during Christmas !

You can also mention les Chateaux de la Loire, of which Amboise where Leonardo da Vinci created Mona Lisa. You also have to bike your way across Bordeaux vineyards and go eat oysters on the Bassin d'Arcachon with a chilly glass of white wine. Nimes and Arles with their roman theaters are worth the visit too. Not forgetting Toulouse, the pink city, the medieval places in Gascony, birth region of D'Artagnan, and so much more...
Léonard de Vinci brought Mona Lisa in his suitcases. When he arrives in France, invited by king François 1er, he was already an old man. Le clos Lucé, in Amboise, was is residence (the visit is very plaisante, in particular you can see all the models of his inventions)

Super
As an inhabitant of Brittany, I can say that the plans are well chosen, but there is so much to see that it would take a one hour video 😅 The second landscape that we can see, I would recognize it between 1000! It's not far from Cap Fréhel. Not far away, there is the campsite which was for a time the largest municipal campsite in Europe, it is a fairly "Roots" campsite without the fuss and where you can rest wherever you want.
Très belle vidéo, bravo !
