  • In this episode of "The Old Dodge" I show you how to install a new radiator. The process is very easy on older vehicles like my 1987 Dodge Ram D150!
    For a really in-depth guide to installing a radiator I highly suggest you check out this great video from ChrisFix:

    Great video bro. Mines not leaking but I do want to change it just because it’s old and I love working on my D150 lol.

    Thanks! It was comforting to see that you had to drill the holes out a bit to get them to line up properly. I was spending way too much time trying to micro adjust them to get all four to thread. Cheers to Dodge for only making four bolts to connect it as well!

    Man, I really enjoy all of these D150 videos! I just discovered them this morning and have now seen them all while drinking my coffee. I noticed some new exhaust pipe in the differential video. Curious about what you put on. Also, an important and easy repair to cover is the Ignition control module. Mine goes out about once a year. I try to keep a spare on hand so I don’t get stranded. Keep up the good work.

      That was one of the few things I had a shop do. I'll keep the ignition control module in mind. I just published a new Dodge video, and have a full front suspension rebuild video planned.

    Thanks for all the great videos Jason. I actually have a D250 but under the skin there is a lot of shared DNA.

    I’m currently in the process of changing the radiator on my 84 d150. I changed the water pump but still is leaking coolant, hopefully I didn’t do anything wrong so next stop is the radiator! Great vid!

    Nice video! That wire is a spring that prevents the lower radiator hose from collapsing due to suction while accelerating. Unless you have a lead foot, you'll be fine without it.

      I figured as much... I tried to see if I could buy it again but no dice.

    I hope you kept that old brass and copper radiator, you can get those repaired at a radiator shop. I refuse to use the crappy plastic and aluminum rads! That spring in the lower hose is to keep the hose from collapsing with the suction from the water pump.

    Love your video was simple and short. If you could do a run down video of how to put one together I’d appreciate it. I just bought a 318 and it caught on fire the night I bought it and it locked up. So now I need to rebuild it

      Hahaha yeah those old radiators made out of brass and copper would almost pay for the new plastic one, if you take to the scrap metal yard

    I DON'T know if you're even still alive to answer,man,but a b200 van radiator would be compatible with a 93' Dodge Ramcharger 2wd? Thanks for your attention... Or the lack of it... ✌️😎✌️

      Rock auto is a great way to look stuff like that up. I’m guessing it’s the same radiator. Still alive!

      Yeah, I haven’t since buying this radiator. It’s worked fine since, but it’s super cheaply made.

    Hey Jason! I’m trying to swap the radiator on my 1985 D250…is your Intercooler (ac condenser) attached to your radiator or did Dodge move it to a different location on the ‘90s models?

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  Před 2 lety +1

      Sorry, I’m not sure. My truck doesn’t have AC. But I’m pretty sure that doesn’t interact with the radiator.

    2:48 What are the 2 smaller fitting at the bottom of the radiator for? The ones right next to the lower rad hose. my w150 has lines from the trans into the radiator on those 2 ports, not sure what for, but I cut em and oil came out?

    Hey Jason I was wondering if you could explain something to me. When I start up my D150 it will automatically shut off. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t. I was wondering if you could prolly list some of the explanations of why this is happening. Thanks in advance

    How much coolant does it take to fill up?

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  Před 3 lety

      Not sure. I bought a standard concentrate gallon of coolant that you mix with water, and I had plenty left over.
