    I really appreciated the whole video. You didn't skip or fast-forward anything but showed and explained each step, which is very helpful for those of us who have shaggy wire-haired dogs. Thank you for your time!

    Oh wow, this is VERY HELPFUL. I'm about to get a wirehair after only owning smooth coats my whole life this December. I've been overly anxious about the prospect of hand-stripping, but I want to make sure this new puppy will be desensitized to this process. It seems a bit... rough, but I know this coat needs to be maintained. It's amazing to see what the wild boar looks like afterward! This little dog looked so RED after! Incredibly adorable and I'm excited to see the undercoat!
    I was wondering if you have tips before their adult wirehair coat is in to get them prepared for the process, and when the first stripping should be. Also what kind of tools to start off with? I've seen various things in other videos, but this is the first dachshund one I've seen. Most are Border Terrier videos.
    I also live near the beach and wondering how harmful ocean water will be on the coat, or if a proper dirt repelling coat should keep. (only going once we're old enough. :) Perfect place to get that hole digging out at!)

    I had a wired shorthaired dachshund drawf. They are a half of this dog here. But they look similar. Other thinks they are boring but my moritz was a cool natural silly punk. He had a mohawk 💕

    I've been looking at these videos for hours because our trimmer cancelled a second time,(1year without a trim now) this is by far the only video that explains in a realistic way how to pluck it if you have no clue, well done Tatyana, much appreciation from Amsterdam.

    So helpful video! I've decided to study and learn to hand stripping my wirehaired because area I live does not have groomers who do hand stripping and when I find someone, it becomes hassle to arrange schedules, transportation and then groomers began to cancel or not respond messages... It has been a nightmare!

    Hi! Do you trim the beard and brows with a scissor?

    • @tatyanavergel7022
      @tatyanavergel7022  Před 3 lety +1

      Hello! I do trim the brows lightly to give them a bit of shape. I prefer to grow out beards as long as possible, just shape them by plucking excess hairs, though some other a short neat beard and do trim it.

    Do you bathe the dog before stripping??
    What age can you recommend starting grooming

  • @justineries5983
    @justineries5983 Před 2 lety +1

    Hello thank for sharing your techniques , do you bathe the dog after stripping ? What shampoo / conditionner do you recommend ? Have a nice day

    • @tatyanavergel7022
      @tatyanavergel7022  Před 2 lety +1

      I honestly don't bathe dachshunds, unless they have rolled in something terrible. So, no, washing after stripping. But if you do need to bathe a dachshund, any universal shampoo is okay. If there is irritation on the skin after stripping (this is very rare in wires), i would recommend not bathing for a day or so until the irritation calms down. Conditioner is not necessary, as it softens the coat. But you can use a little on the beard to keep it looking luxurious. Again, brand is not important.

    Wow. I was considering my first wire-haired for the family (always had smooth coat). How often would a family need to do this to keep the dog's coat healthy? Just curious how much an average groomer would charge for this service. You look like a total pro and it still took over an hour! Those wire-haired weeners are so cute!

    • @tatyanavergel7022
      @tatyanavergel7022  Před 4 lety +3

      Hi Matt! Wires are a great choice, a lot of people "upgrade" from smooths to the bearded variety and don't regret it one bit, they have amazing silly personalities.
      There are several different coat types within the wires, and how often you need to groom depends on the type. "pin wires" (super harsh coats with small beards and furnishings) have the easiest coats, they just need touch ups every couple of months to look their best, but you can just brush them and not strip at all - their coats are super low maintenance.
      The heavier bearded coats need stripping every two to three months, less often if you like them fluffy. Some wire coats are not as harsh as they should be, and they need more maintenance to keep their form and their dirt-repelling property.
      Finding a groomer that knows how to hand strip in the US can be difficult - many are not familiar with the process or with this breed. So this is why I made this guide - you can learn to do it yourself! There's nothing difficult, and it does not hurt the dog. And I'm always willing to answer questions and give tips.
