We have cucumber sandwiches at bridal showers here in Texas but we do use cream cheese and fresh dill. Yummmm.
Oh thank you for doing this. When I was young at my family reunion in Oregon. I had a Great Aunt who was from England. Who made this for tea time. I miss it and thank you for showing how to make it. Plus she made two ways the one you showed and one with cream cheese.
I loved hearing her talk and the way she did things.

Thank you for showing me that I'm over here in the US sandwiches are made with you know a lot of mean and pimento cheese and stuff like that and lettuce and tomato and all that I fix mine with a little bit of chicken pimento cheese and a little bit of egg and then slice two sandwiches for like party stuff like that or the traditional Ritz crackers salami with cheddar cheese

I love summer cooking. I'm going through my recipes now to come up with some good stuff. Right now I'm looking at enchiladas with sour cream and watermelonade Watermelon, sugar and lime. I'm pulling out my pretty iced tea glasses and going to keep a batch in the fridge!

I have been eating cucumber s/w's for as long as I can remember. Whether for B/fast, Packed School Tiffins, Evening munchies, Packed office lunch, they have been a part of my growing years. Still love them. :-)

In Mexico we do make sandwiches with cucumber, but also we add lettuce, mayo and ham so, I think this is going to be a funny experiment to do to a sandwich 😁

Ugly American here, but I grew up in the South, which I think has held onto certain English traditions longer than other parts of the US. I LOVE cucumber sandwiches, although my family made them quite a bit differently. Lots of mayo, a leaf of lettuce, a couple of tomato rounds, plenty of paper-thin cucumber slices, salt and pepper, and a nice covering of fresh Parmesan cheese (my heritage is Italian, after all!). Don't knock it 'til you've tried it--it's SO good!

Hi. Sorry for the late comment (as you did publish this 9 years ago). Youve made a good point about the cream cheese. I agree it can become moe about the cream cheese whereby the cucumber becomes the minor ingredient. So maybe just a thin spread of cream cheese with some fresh dill as they do go well with the cucumber making sure not to overpower it. Good video. 👍.

Very appropriate video, even without the cream cheese, which would give a rather special look and taste for the finished product. Kind of offended that you said that cream cheese is only for kids parties, I have you know I am forty three years old and I thoroughly enjoy cream cheese, parties, and kids!!

I appreciate the cooking lessons however, what about the seeds? How do you remove them? I thought you were mentioning about taking them out. Obviously nobody wants to have indigestion at a tea party. I have to be careful about eating seeds because I heard it can cause intestinal issues also. If there's a video about how to remove them, please link it if you could?

Cucumber sandwiches are my favourite. Triangles, crust off. Super thin fresh milky white bread. Lightly pre-salt the cucumber (20mins) after peeling and cutting, no seeds. Use the best French butter you can get your hands on. Then very strong good quality tea or a French Rose. Good video, I like your version too, very accessible to a normal worker.

I like mixing finely chopped chives into the butter. Unorthodox, yes, but it gives the sandwich a lift. Sea salt is lovely on cucumber with that little bit of crunch. Yum.

Claire here! Yes, Lucy's fringe (as we call it here in the UK) is already a thing of the past! A short (literally!) blip in her hair's history.
Partially freezing the bread makes it cut more neatly.

love how simple and easy it is. I saw a recipe from Food Network of all places that had you do a special butter spread with lemon zest and fresh herbs, and it really overpowered it..

awesome! love the British accents! from America, it sounds so very beautiful! i think our accents are dull and boring! anyway....i loved the cucumber sandwiches i had at a "high tea" at a tea room here in Pennsylvania (US) however, i've had a similar variation - just an open face version but made with small cocktail rye - not sure if you have that over there, topped with mayonnaise, then the thinly sliced cucumber topped with salt and cracked pepper! makes a great appetizer! :)

Karen Whalen Hmmm, I'd have to say I prefer a thick Georgian accent from the southern USA. Britain has yet to produce a great writer of the English language like William Faulkner, a man who did not even finish high school, but grew up in place where english is perhaps more rich than anywhere else. Cheers! (I'm ready to get slaughtered now)
Jenny - to each his own. Not at all am I going to "slaughter" you - LOL! I think a southern accent can be beautiful but I guess living in the States, especially up North, I just find such charm in the British accent - they can use curse words and still sound like they're being polite! HAHA!!
